Let's face it, we can't be special like B-Side and get invited to fancy bag parties and hob nob with celebrities. So just curious if any of us average folks have bumped into a celebrity while going about your daily life.

I just posted my Ivana and Ivanka Trump sighting waiting for the Chunnel in London on the Apprentice thread.
Ashley Judd at the Detroit Grand Prix (She's married to Dario Franchitti)
Jack White -- Uh, everywhere? Mostly at bars though.
Lots of Hockey players, basketball players and football players around town. Barry Sanders and his son at Gameworks.
Larry Murphy bringing his bottles back at Meijers
Darren McCarty and Kris Draper at a coffee shop
Bill Laimbeer at a health food store
Isiah Thomas talking to someone on the corner outside a building at my college
I was supposedly at a party in high school where Andre from RR season one was there too... not that I saw him though.
I'm still kinda bummed out that I never Saw Renee Zellweger when she lived here though. Although a friend of mine's wife ran into her at Farmer Jacks and my boyfriend was bartending a night she came into his bar. He didn't recognize her. Boys are so useless.

Okay, I'm old, but when I was 17, Steven Dorff bought me a coke at Ed Debevic's in Beverly Hills.
The same year, Paula Abdul and Arsenio Hall were driving next to me on the 405 through West L.A. (I told you I was old). I waved like a big nerd and Paula waved back!!!
Al Pacino and his kids sat in front of me and my kids at "Jamorama" (a kids music festival) in Long Beach on Oscar Sunday this year. He has really strange hair.
Genie Francis said hi to me in a public bathroom.
Oh, and as I mentioned in some other thread, I went to college with Meeno Peluce. And Rebecca Romijn too.

When I lived in Pittsburgh, I managed a shoe store down by these trendy little condos that you could rent on a month to month basis and the area where my store was was a little trendy outdoor mall. A lot of the Pittsburgh Steelers lived/shopped there so I've met Jerome Bettis, Charlie Batch, Dan Krieder, Veron Haynes, Chris Hope, Jaremy Tuman and Hines Ward. No Big Ben though. And Mark Cuban is from a suburb of Pittsburgh so he used to go to all of the Pitt basketball games. He's totally as tall as me.

I saw Frederique, the Victoria's Secret model, at a restaurant in NYC. She was at an outside table next door to my friend's apartment.
She was STUNNING. I felt like a big whale in her presence. I was 5 months pregnant at the time which didn't do a thing for my confidence in my own beauty. I was wearing a lime green maternity shirt also:eek: She and I made eye contact and she looked at me with disgust. Or maybe it was just her droopy lids that made it seem that way.
I met Charlie Daniels, The Judds, Reba MacIntire and many other country music folks. My dad was a local celebrity (he was a musician) and he opened for them at concerts. Not so cool when I was a teenager. Or even now!

I met Mr. Rogers when I was 9 at Lurray Caverns. He was shooting an episode of his show I think.
I had to take my granny to to the hospital for a doctor's appt. and Cameron Diaz was sitting across from us in the waiting room with her grandparents. I didn't say anything to her b/c I figured it was inappropriate given the situation.
I've met Glenn Danzig.
I've seen some wrestlers because many live around Tampa. Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Dean Malenko.
Also seen TB Buccaneers. Tony Dungee (former coach) and his family used to come into the grocery store I worked at. Also Jon Gruden, Derrick Brooks, Mike Allstott, Chidi Ahanotu.

I was so wasted (it was a sorority event for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation...which btw provided more than their fair share of reality stars for our various fundraisers...Ethan and Jenna, The Miz, a couple other survivor people... and is a really great charity to be involved with) I didn't even know what happend until I got the pictures back. Ron and Clint Howard visiting their mother in the hospital. Ron was very nice and very bald, Clint is bald and a freak.
Debbie Reynolds visiting her mother in the hospital. It's 6:30 in the morning and she has a turban on her head and sun glasses that cover her entire face ( a strategic move, I'm sure)
Jay Leno at a gas station in Calabasas. He was wearing his "uniform" (blue workshirt and jeans) and filling the tank of an antique fire engine. He and my husband had a conversation about our Corvette (the two gear heads were having a great time, I just stared at his chin).
Lots of celebs and their families where I work, but I guess it would be very tacky (and a violation of many regulations) to talk about the circumstances since I work in healthcare. People, famous or not, show what they are really made of when there is a crisis.

It was especially hard when we would get someone famous who was in the air (flying)- if they became unruly and beligerent, the pilots would land the planes and they would end up in "Detox in the midwest somewhere". Now wouldn't that suck??? I always felt terrible for them.

I was sitting at the same bar with Sam Shepard once. I snatched his beer bottle after he left (Guinness). Very lame, but I was a college student at the time and also had been drinking... (imagine that!) ;)
I've seen Sissy Spacek at the mall as well as McDonald's before. At the mall, Schuyler had run away from her and she was calling her name and running after her. (obviously this was some time ago since Schuyler now is grown up and acting in her own movies)

chick110,
You reminded me of a mall sighting I had years ago. Valerie Bertinelli (when she was still married to Eddie VanHalen) was in a bookstore with their son who was about 3 at the time. He had gotten away from her and she was yelling, "Wolfgang, Wolfie, come here." I wouldn't have known she was in the store, but I had to look at who would name their kid Wolfgang. I knew there had to be a VanHalen around somewhere!
Saw Eddie once in my hospital cafeteria during one of his "trips" there (Derder, you know what I'm talkin' about). ;)

Gosh I could fill this thread with stories. Let's see what comes to mind first:
Mike Schneider - former Today Show news guy - lived down the street when I lived in Miami. It was such a Ted Knight thing cuz he had a normal voice that dropped three octaves lower when he was on tv or around anyone he wanted to impress.
Chicago Bulls - Most of the Bulls from the 90's, had a friend who played for them and so got to go to the games and sit in the wives/and family seats. Sat near MJ's dad - sweetest man ever, and his mom when she showed up. Usually MJ's seats went to celebs - MC Hammer (I touched his can't touchable hand), Macaully Culkin, Bo Jackson. My friend had a party for his kid and most of the Bulls and their families came to it - so that was fun. Also ran into Dennis Rodman a lot at the mall where he got his hair dyed all those whacky colors.
Jerry Springer - When I lived in Chicago one night I had to work late, after work went to pump gas - it was super late and this car pulls up next to me - out of the whole empty gas station it was right next to me then the guy gets out and is staring at me - creeped me out - so I pumped as fast as I could and was jumping in my car - when I looked back it was Jerry Springer. I think he was just annoyed I didn't recognize him and fawn over him.
Oprah - not that this counts, when you live in Chicago you have to take people to see Oprah the same way you take people to Disney in Orlando. We also saw all three Judds, Lionel Richie, Sally Field and Elizabeth Taylor and then hubs Larry Fortenski while going to various Oprah tapings.
Barry Williams/Greg Brady - When I was in High School, Barry Williams came to the grand opening of a restaurant. My mom took all 6 of us kids to see him. He was so tickled by our family that he sat with us through lunch asking what it was like to really have a big family - while we asked about the show. He was really nice - but oldish and nerdie.
Harold Ramis - I saw him many times around Chicago. With his family at Panera, at the food court at the mall (in line in front of me at Sbarro) and at a few Cubs games.
Chicago Bears - Two of them went to my church, Ran into Ditka at the mall - real jerk btw.
Robert Picardo - from Innerspace, Stargate, Star Trek Voyager - ran into him at a grocery store in Orlando - baby food aisle. He was looking for formula for his then new baby. My Mom an OB nurse was talking to him about what brand to get to avoid diarhea - my sister and I were dying of embarassment but he was really grateful to mom.
We are realllllllllly close to signing a veryyyyyyyyyyy major sports personality as a new client but I best not mention it until it actually happens.
Ok that's all for now - I'm sure I'll think of more.

Poor Dead Shannon, you reminded me of two basketball player sightings:
Kobe Bryant at a restaurant after a Laker's game. He was with Vanessa (before they were married and he became an adulterer), and her parents. The chairs had really tall backs that with an average person sitting in them, you wouldn't be able to see the person's head. I could see all of Kobe's 'fro from the back and it just looked wierd.
Another time I was at a bar in a line. I turned around and I was staring at Vlade Divack's (hope I spelled it right, at the time he was the center for the Lakers) stomach. It was like a comedy, me doing the slow upward gaze until I found a face to go with the stomach. I said, "oh Hello!" and felt really dumb.
When these guys stand up and you are in an ordinary setting, (not a basketball court) they are freakishly large :o

I once went to a party that Elton Brand, Corey Magette, and Marko Jaric were at (all of the Clippers at the time), and I definitely felt very short. Coincidentally, I was supposed to go to a Clippers game two days prior, but the jerk from ebay sent my tix to the wrong address and I missed out. So what did I do? I actually told Corey Magette about the incident, hoping that maybe he'd feel sympathy for me and throw me some tickets to another game. But alas, all he said was "Oh, that sucks man." No love from Magette.

A breif aside for those of you not familiar with what went on in the last two posts. The city of Pittsburgh has a language that is just simply amazing. There's the midwest "pop" for soda and a little bit of Philly- "jimmies". However there exist words that simply blow one's mind:
yinz - the plural of you
slippy - when something is wet and you might fall
sweeper - vacuum
gumband - rubber band
chip-chopped ham - the kind of ham used in a "sammich"
nebby - nosey
the list could go on forever.
And one of my co-workers literally ran into John Malkovich while getting lunch. He apparently lives up here too.

I am from Minnesota. I use to live in DC and one of my friends from there still calls me and says "Will you please say hotdish and boat for me"? Yes, apparently my accent is straight out of "Fargo", although I always think I have a grip on it. Even my family tells me that my accent is extremely heavy (and some of them have ALWAYS lived here). I can do an impersonation of Francis McDormand as "Margie" and if your eyes were closed, you would think it was her. And although I am not particularily proud of this, I just thought I would share...

What a funny thread. Arsenio?! I don't usually name drop, but what the heck.
Been seated on planes next to Eric McCormack and Sofia Coppola (before she was too cool for school.) Seem to have lots and lots of baseball and basketball ones, especially after somehow ending up at the ESPYs one year. And once worked with some random TV anchors (Steve Berthiaume is quite possibly the slimiest man alive, Daryn Kagan is rather frightening without makeup.) But here are the only funny / cool ones:
Back in the early 90s, Bruce and Demi came in all grunged out during our daily visit to a coffeeshop in Sun Valley ... she was cute, he was pretty skanky and - I kid you not - actually wearing a plaid, sheepskin-lined cap with earflaps.
Hung out at a really random tailgate that included Keibler and the Stults Bros. (I didn't know who any of them were at the time and was totally unprepared for her appearance on Dancing w/ the Stars like a month later.) They're all quite normal and nice, and actually slightly goofy.
Ran into, like nearly literally ran INTO in an embarassing way, Jude Law in NYC. I'm not fan, but I gotta admit, he's jaw-dropping in person. Sienna was across the room sporting some ridiulously huge headband.
Hmmm...guess that's all I got.

Craig Kilborn was in my studyhall- he was in ninth grade, I was in seventh. I never said a word to him. He was the star of the basketball team ( I heard he is a real dick).
Another pretty famous writer/ director was a pretty good friend of mine all through grade school, jr. high and high school. I don't want to write his name though. I feel kind of protective of him, I guess. But he is a great guy, having lots of success. And he is still married to his highschool sweetie (who was also a good friend- they are great people)....

Level 42 was on our plane to Irvine long, long time ago and I was so excited. Once the plane landed I followed them to baggage. Saw Larry King at the '96Republican convention here. All I have to say is My God What A Big Head. My mom had her picture taken with Paul Newman and Shirley McClane when she worked for Phillipine Airlines. She said Newman was cool and McClane looked like she didn't want anyone to touch her and was bitchin' the whole time.

OOHH Grumpy Celeb encounters, I have a few of those.
Robert Urich - hate to speak ill of the dead but met him a while back at a Tradeshow and he was such a jerk.
Bozo the Clown - Saw him at some festival near Chicago, He was on break in his tent but the flaps were open, a little kid walked up to him and was all "BOZOBOZO!" and he said to the kid's Mom "Get you're fucking kid out of my face, can't you see I'm on a fucking break?" Makes you see that Krusty The Klown isn't that far off.
Jackie Gleason - Back when I was rehearsing with my marching band for the Orange Bowl Halftime show, they introduced Jackie Gleason as the star of the show, he came rushing through the crowd pushing everyone out of his way as he made his way to the stage in the center of the field. At the time I was all of 100 lbs and when he shoved me (big ole bear of a man that he was) I went flying and fell on my face. He was already long gone and didn't bother to slow down to see if I was ok. I had skinned knees, elbows and a bloody nose. Creep.
He died not long after.
Elizabeth Taylor - when you see celebs on Oprah you get to talk to them during the commercial break. We were asking Liz about some of her earlier movies (You know the things that made her famous since she hasn't done much lately) She brushed us off saying she doesn't care about any of that "nonsense" since it was ages ago. Well Liz - you wouldn't be on this show if not for that NONSENSE!

I totally forgot...
I went to an all girls boarding school for high school. This meant fewer girls (125 total grades 6 - 12) and the ability to take an entire week off from learning and have a color war. Blue and White Days. There was your normal color war fare - kickball, soccer, homerun derby- during the week and then on friday afternoon was Airband and Dance. These were the two best events. Not only did members of each team lip sync and dance but at the very end the teacher also did something, a reuniting of the school if you will. Friday arrived and my blue team perform a spectacular Madonna medly (totally made up the night before) and we were eagerly awaiting the crapfest that was the teachers' performance. They filed past us in "crazy" hippie clothing and the curtain closed. When it opened instead of being treated to bad dancing and awful clothes, there performing for us was Sister Sledge belting "We Are Family". An impromptu Sister Sledge concert in Lancaster County PA. Turns out one of the sisters was actually a student's mom. It was amazing.

I was telling a friend where to eat in Key West and I remembered a celebrity run-in.
So we just enjoyed a lovely hangover breakfast at Camille's. Our group was waiting for one of us to come out of the bathroom. Another group gets up to leave and is going to walk by us. Paul Teutul Sr. of American Chopper fame is leading the pack. He slams into me as he goes by. I turn around, flex my guns and say "You want some of this?!?!?" He politely declines my offer and apologizes profusely and sweetly. In retrospect I see that he only bumped me because he's about 14 feet wide and had no other choice.

I've met lots of famous people over the course of my life, but it would be nearly impossible for me to list them. Where I grew up (my hometown, and the schools that I attended) were chock full of famous people. And then I grew up and married someone who also grew up around famous people (his are mostly all comedians or athletes...an interesting combination!).
Maybe it's because of this, but even though I love my TV, I've never been a
'fan' type person. And I'm loathe to give attention to someone who is dying for me to give them attention (very passive-aggressive of me :p ) and I'm sensitive to people who just want to be treated like a normal person (one of our best friends is an ex-athlete who is still very well-known and recognized wherever he goes...to us, he's just "X", and he appreciates that).
Growing up, I never had posters of people (celebs, athletes, etc) on my walls or in my lockers. I had posters of horses!
Anyway...not criticizing anyone else by being fans, or starstruck when they meet/see someone! I just don't tend to get that way...and even when I do, I fight it like crazy!

EdHill and I were just discussing this in bed the other night. :D I said that I would never go up to a famous person and gush or ask for an autograph. Do you think famous people ever appreciate it when someone comes up and compliments their work? Is it possible that they are sincerely pleased when one of us regular people approaches them to say, thanks for what you did in X Movie or on Z Album, I have really enjoyed it and thanks for making a positive impact.
For example, my sister has seen Billy Joe from Green Day at the beach twice this summer. She hasn't said anything to him. But do you think it would make him feel good if a person came up to him calmly and respectfully and said something like, Thanks for "American Idiot" - it's really intelligent and accurate and rocks like crazy too? It's been in the CD changer of my truck since I bought it in 2004, I've enjoyed it every one of the 4,000 times I've listened to it and I am just grateful that you and the other guys in the band shared your talent with us in such an awesome way.
Don't you think it would be kind of like if some stranger approached you and said, Your kids are amazingly well behaved OR a client called your boss to compliment how hard you worked on the big project?
Of course I would never ask anyone for an autograph, what value is there in that? You already have the memory of meeting the person, who cares if they scribble their name down and then they never see you again.

Yes, I think many times a real "artist" does appreciate level headed congratulatory praise. They just don't like the psychos who drool over them. (like me)- just kidding- I'm really not THAT bad. And autographs are out- I don't care who it is... it's just way too gushy.

Okay, here's my experience based upon the famous people that I know, etc:
-They're all individual, just like us. So SOME of them do appreciate it when reasonable, normal, nice people go up to them and say "Hey, nice work!" or when someone shares a story about how the famous person positively affected/impacted upon their life or the life of someone they know. It's touchy territory, but handled well it can be a great thing.
-That said, one of the guys that we know is really wary of everyone. So if you even let on that you know who he is, the game's up & he puts you on his 'mental list'! I was fortunate, because I knew practically nothing about the sport he played...so I was like "yeah, whatever" when my husband introduced us. So I'm one of his favorite people! I'm pretty unimpressed and unphased by him. But whenever we go out with him & his wife, people always come up to him and gush over him, and he is always gracious, but not all that thrilled.
-I've personally sent letters or emails to people who I admire, or who I want to share a story with. Some people I've received responses from, and some I haven't. That's okay, it was more about me saying "Thank you" and baring my soul (corny, I know!) So I'm much more inclined to go that route than to approach someone on the street, or in a restaurant, or whatever. And I've actually become friends with a couple of well-known people that way...although I'm inclined to think that that's unusual.

The ONLY famous movie person I ever talked to was the gal from The Road Warrior who wore the football pads and who dies on top of the gasoline tanker. I met her at Frank and Sons which is sort of an indoor swapmeet for collectibles (comic books, anime, etc) in the City of Industry. She had a table set up and was probably selling autographed photos or something. Once I recognized her, I told her how much I enjoyed watching her in the movie and she did a great job and I was sad when she 'died'. She was really nice and looked absolutely gorgeous. I think I played it cool but I might have landed myself in the "gushing fan" cagetory.

I went to a screening of Little Miss Sunhine Last night and after there was a panel Q and A with the producers and Greg Kinnear, who is a lead in the movie. And ALL of their faces genuinely lit up when a couple of people went in depth how they enjoyed the movie or the way that Greg was able to act so much using just facial expressions - their thank yous were sinciere.
I'm not anti autographs - my memory's so bad that i can't tell you most of the people I've met or seen (not TONs, but I have done some seatfilling and such where there are a lot of statrs to see). At least an autograph is proof.
some of the best are the unexpected - I was in a hotel in NYC years ago and I saw Christian Slater in an elevator - just as the doors were closing. That same hotel had that red haired guy from 30-sdomething (and Byrds of Paradise... it was around that time) SCREAMING at the poor front desk clerk. I don't remember why.

Well, I'm purely speaking about physical attraction here anyway. So setting aside any other things that I know/don't know about them, I stand by my original list! re) Johnny Depp---how can any1 resist, he's gorgeous & seems so cool! i recently caught him on 'Inside the Actor's Studio', cool guy. I love the movies he picks, does them so well.
Obstinant--I find Sean Connery very attractive, too, but I've heard that about the wife-beating, too :( Disappointing. well, we're going w/ pure looks nywys!
when i was in hi school (in NYC), my fr'nds & i were approaching a street corner, when we spotted LL Cool J in the passenger seat of a tiny red Porsche---he was wearing a tall purple Fedora hat. The car came 2 a stoplight so we ran dwn the block & asked him 4 an autograph---he was really sweet & quickly signed a piece of looseleaf, writing 'Stay Sweet! Be Cool! LL Cool J'
About 10 yrs later, i was waiting to cross the street by Macy's & spotted him AGAIN, this time driving a white Mercedesm waiting 4 the lite 2 change ---I simply smiled (too old 2 b running aftr cars!) & he smiled & waved back politely.
I've seen a few celebs. here & there, some at charity functions or similar settings, but never really met or got 2 talk 2 any1 in depth. A few yrs ago, my fr'nd & i spotted Jimmy Fallon at a bar & we had our picture taken w/ him---he was polite & friendly & patiently posed w/ ea. of us. I've seen Cameron Diaz (bad acne) & Elijah Wood walking dwn the street. I attended an after-party 4 a Disney movie (a remake of 'Annie') so all the stars of the flick were there--Alan Cumming, Nathan Lane, Kathy Bates (she walked right by me & gave me a dirty, scowled looked 4 no reason!) & Sarah Polley.

A few years ago, when Charles Barkley was in town for the Mario Lemieux charity golf tournament, I saw him at a downtown bar. My friends were all too chicken to go over and say "hi". I guess Charles has a bit of a tough guy image. I, however, was fearless (translation, I had 4 cosmos).
I had seen him interviewed on HBO the day before, so I went over and struck up a conversation about whatever the topic was. ( I can't remember what now). He was gracious and charming. I offered to buy him a drink, but he bought me one instead. When we were finished chatting (about 10 minutes), he stood up and shook my hand. He did the double hand shake, you know his right hand on the bottom, mine in the middle his left hand on top. It felt like my hand had been swallowed by two baseball mitts. His hands are ginormous!
When I walked back over to my friends (mostly guys), they were so jealous! I told them to grow a set and go over, but no one did.

I hate the "junior mind/senior body" thing. We have tons of moms wearing their daughters' clothes out here...I think the official uniform of AZ is a Juicy Couture velour sweat bottom (rolled down to show the lower back tat, natch!) and a crop top where you can see undercleavage.
Another thing: Out in Scottsdale, we musta had a biohazard spill, which released a deadly cloud of Second Wife Syndrome. Worse than a Cougar is the CEO with the second trophy wife, who of course, wants children. He's 60 and pushing a baby carriage. At this rate, he'll have kids but be too old to pick them up....

Here's one for the UCONN fans (what's up sg-dub?). One morning I was leaving a restaurant after finishing breakfast. I step outside and who should be dining out there but Kevin Ollie and Donny Marshall. I smile politlely and pretend I don't know who they are plus there were Lizardspawn swarming everywhere and I was trying to keep them from running in the road, overthrowing the government, etc. So Kevin Ollie is all polite and gentlemanly, but Donny Marshall gives me the eye. Hardcore. Then he gives me the smile. Then he winks at me. Then he gives me the tongue across his teeth! I clearly have my hands full, and this dude is coming on to me. So he turns all the way around in his chair to watch me walk down the street. I found it very bizarre. So I told my brother (who went to UCONN while they were both there playing basketball). He says "Yeah, I remember hearing from a friend in the infirmary about an unusaul gonorrhea outbreak. There were 6 random girls who all came down with it at the same time. They couldn't figure out what was going on. With more prodding it was discovered that the common denominator was...DONNY MARSHALL!" So I feel really guilty about telling that part of the story, and it is just heresay, but I can vouch for my part of the story. And maybe sg-dub can back me up on the other part???

I must post this simply because it made me feel 8 years old today...we had a big ol' Comcastic pic-a-nic today and they bring in d-listers to hype things that are coming up. For those of you that enjoy the fakeness that is WWF (I will never bow down to World Wrestling Entertainment...boo) Summerslam is this weekend and none other than Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart was here today! Officiating over arm and thumb wrestling no less!

I forgot to mention my best celeb encounter, how lame am I?? You know the guy who played the big marine in A Few Good Men? We went to college together and were both art majors. We even did our senior show together with another girl. I was up late one night watching Cinemax about to turn it off, when a movie came on and I saw his name in the credits, so I watched it. It was Freeway with a very young Reese Witherspoon and a very creepy Kiefer Sutherland and the guy who was on the Pretender. The guy I knew's name is Wolfgang Bodison and he played the cop. When we graduated, he told me he wanted to get into making videos. Our senior year, he made this really cool one of these boys playing war to U2s "Bullet the Blue Sky".

I guess I could tell everyone my Boogie story from a few years back when my friends and I were visiting one of our out-of-town friends at the Sheraton in Universal City and ran into him when he came to see Krista.
Or Colin Hanks laughing and hugging me everytime he saw me at a WB event because my friends kept disappearing around me to go stalk..ermm...say hi to the other celebrities there.
Or getting hit on by a former WB starlet's boyfriend (who also happened to be on the same network) in the corner of a room at a industry party while she was talking to the reporter from TV Guide.
Or entering a party and being hoisted up in the air by a former WB star who was on a TV show that when it ended its run, the creator of that show created a water cooler show on a cable network that is reviewed by TVGasm. And being carried around as this person introduces you to their co-stars.
Then there's the wrap party for the first season of The OC a few years back and Adam Brody kept following me around and Rachel Bilson kept shooting me the evil eye because he was giving me attention and not her. Or how I had to keep pulling my friend literally off of Ben McKenzie. And by the end of the night, I had both Ben and Adam following me around and who kept asking me, "Seriously, you're ____? Can we see your license?" Or would bump into me and shake their heads at me and just go "You look so young. I can't believe you're 27 (the age I was at the time)."
That's just for starters. I have lots more juicer stories that I will tell once I get off deadline.

Sure, zoobabe. I'll do what I can. ;)
When I first moved to California, i didn't see any celebs or meet them until I got into high school. The town I lived in had some celebs living in it and I would see them out and about. Tina Majorino (Veronica Mars) grew up in the town I lived in as did the actress who was on "The New Munsters."
My sister went to high school with a few of the guys who guest-starred on '7th Heaven.' One of them was a friend of hers and as a joke one day, they autographed and traded head shots with each other. My sister did some commercials when she was growing up--mostly regional ones but she did do an oatmeal commercial that was national. Of course you couldn't tell it was her but it was one that has gymnasts in it and my sister was one that did a backflip on camera. They cast her solely because she has red hair...okay and plus she was ranked nationally for her gymnastics so I guess that helped.
I've been on camera a few times--some on accident and some because I was placed there on purpose. I sat next to Ray Romano and his daughter's friends when Fantasia won the third season of "American Idol" My dad and I made our way into an episode of "Doogie Howser, MD" on accident. Alas, it was not with Neil Patrick Harris but with Max Casella who played his best friend Vinnie. My family and I went to Magic Mountain and we went to get in line for Colossus (a roller coaster) and usually they have two lines going as the ride has dual tracks. But one of the lines was shut down and as we got closer to the front of the line, we saw NPH and a female coming in from the ride on the other track. They were shooting a scene from the show and everyone around me was fascinated with seeing the scene shot over and over again. Neil was gracious during short breaks to reset the ride or the camera and when female fans would shout things to him, he'd look over at the crowd waiting to go on the ride on our side and wave and say hi to everyone and tell everyone that he's sorry for the long wait they had because of him.
Later on after we rode the ride, my mom, brother and sister decided to go on a ride where you are standing up but then the ride twists and turns and goes side to side and upside down and gravity is the only thing holding you up. I decided to pass even though I'd been on the ride before. So my dad and I went to sit down at one of the planters. Then it happened. The producers were moving all the extras into place around us and trying to get the non-extras out of the way because they were about to film another scene for the show. The producers didn't say one word to us--i guess they thought we were 2 of the extras...either that or they liked seeing the visual of a teenager sitting and talking to her dad off to the side of the scene. The scene was maybe 30 seconds in the actual show--It just had Vinnie and a girl walking past the rides talking about 'Doogie' and they walked past where my dad and I were sitting so you see us briefly. One of these days, maybe I'll cap the scene from the DVD.

I hated when other people told me to quit. I knew I wouldn't be able to do it unless it was my decision to stop. I would smoke about five during the day and then smoke the rest of the pack (or more) when I got home while sitting in front of the computer and TV. I have to say, I had no idea how bright the colors on my monitor actually were until I got a new one! And I was so embarrassed about the color of my old monitor I couldn't even donate it. Blech.
Sorry to sound like one of those pushy ex-smokers, but if any of you ever do decide to quit, maybe look into the nicotrol inhaler. I think that's what made it so easy(ish) for me. I tried the drugs (wellbutron?), too, but I had such horrible side effects I had to stop taking it.
Well, enough of the speechifying. Just know that if any of you decide to quit, in addition to your friends and family, you'll have a huge support system here, too, if you need it.

Anyone had any good celebrity sightings recently?
I'll give anyone in the NYC area a good tip. Prime spot to see celebs with young kids is the Childrens' Museum of Manhattan on the Upper West Side, in particular the "Playworks" area on the third floor. I just saw Jon Stewart with his little boy there yesterday, and in the past few months I've also seen Angelina Jolie with kid #1 (Sahara?) and Elizabeth Hasselbeck (Survivor/The View) with her kid(s). However, you'll probably want to make sure you bring a kid with you so people don't think you're a stalker and/or pedophile.
Thought about going up and saying hi, but everyone else either didn't recognize him or was leaving him alone, so I didn't want to be the douche to bother him while he's playing with his kid. I guess that's why so many celebs like living in Manhattan, most people do leave them alone here.

To be honest, in street clothes and not made up she didn't look any hotter than any of the other hot moms there. Elizabeth Hasselbeck looked very cute and has a nice figure. Jon Stewart looked like the rest of us dads, enjoying a few days off from shaving, wearing jeans, sweatshirt and a baseball cap. His son was cute, looked about 2-3 years old.

Two weeks ago I was at a hockey game and went early to eat at the really uber expensive nice buffet place in the arena. I was sat two tables away from none other that Billy Joel. Everyone stared at him while he ate and whenever he would get up to get a plate of food, 50 people would get up too! No one bothered him for an autograph or picture we all just made him really uncomfortable by staring. I did think it was kinda funny that I saw Billy at a buffet!

At times like that it's gotta suck to be famous. That reminded me of when I went to see "Jersey Boys" on Broadway, probably almost a year ago. Frankie Valli was in the audience, so everyone was gawking at him, so we were basically watching him watching his life story. Pretty weird.

They film a lot of movies in Louisiana now, especially in Shreveport. Anyway, I've seen a million celebs now:
50 Cent
Sam Jackson
Kiefer Sutherland!
Demi Moore
Steve Buscemi (In a bar!)
Kevin Costner
Others who totally don't matter (like Jessica Simpson)
My sister and I talked to Jack Bauer. He was so cool. He was sitting on the stairs in front of the building where my sister's office is. He actually got off his phone to talk to us. When I saw him, I was all "Oh my God, Jack Bauer". He said, "Oh you like 24"? We talked about Shreveport for like 5 minutes. It was awesome, totally the best thing that happened all summer.

Millions of years ago, I worked for Citibank. I was one of those customer service reps who comes on the phone when you call up to check your balance or raise your credit limit or your card's been stolen. Of course, celebrities have credit cards, too. When one of them called up, their account would have a special flag on it and we were supposed to forward the call to a special unit who could deal with celebrity requests. Well, Billy Joel called up one time and I didn't realize it was him, for some reason. I think it was my first celebrity call and I didn't see the flag at first. So the name on the account is "William Joel," and of course for security purposes the information the caller gives you is supposed to match what's on the account. So when this guy says he's Billy Joel I asked him to verify whether he was, in fact, WILLIAM Joel. That's when I realized who it was, and I felt really stupid!

I dedicate this post to Rach:
About 4 years ago when Six Feet Under was still on the air and in it's Hey Day - I had an encounter with the actor who plays Keith.

I used to work right by the Orlando Airport. We get a lot of celebs down here shooting shows on some of the production lots near Disney and Universal so it's not unusual to see celebs at the airport or out at the parks.
On this particular day I was at Wal-mart fighting my way through the crowded aisles and I looked up to see Keith (that's who he is to me, he may have real name but he's Keith to me) heading towards me.
For a flash I just thought he looks familiar and I was probably giving him that "I know you from somewhere look" but then I instantly knew and had that "OMG IT'S YOU" look and he smiled and before I could say anything put his finger to his lips and looked around at all the people.
I noded and mouthed "I love you!" and he smiled and nodded and mouthed "thank you".
He passed me and headed out and I melted to the spot. He's wayyyyyy dreamier in person.

What a boring life I've led! :unsure2: I haven't met anyone famous. I saw Vin Diesel once at the Xgames... he is really short. And a dick.

OMG! I am sooooo jealous, Tink and thank you for the story. I didn't even know this thread existed!
I should share my best story for this thread.
As almost anyone who knows anything about him knows, John (no longer Cougar) Mellencamp is from Indiana, specifically born in Seymour, lives some of the time near Bloomington. I grew up about 30 minutes from Bloomington and Seymour, and one day my sister and I were working at my parents' bookstore when this gorgeous blonde model walker in with an enormous bag of popcorn. I noticed her because she didn't look like our typical clientele. Then a couple of minutes later I look up and see John Mellencamp standing at the front display table looking at some books. I sidle over to my sister and say, "Nikki, that's John Mellencamp!" and she says, "No it's not, Rachael" and I say, "Yes, it is!" and she says, "No, it's not". This goes on for a while...we are being quite. He eventually walks out of the store, his wife is still in there (she is the model, if you didn't know it).
Immediately customers start walking up to the counter saying, "Oh my gosh! That was John Mellencamp!" and I say, "SEE!" and my sister still refuses to admit it was him. Finally, I am really frustrated and I yell, "NIKKI, THAT WAS JOHN MELLENCAMP!" just as he is walking back into the store. He immediately looked at me, grabbed his wife, and ran out of the mall. Hordes of people were running after them as they fled.
My sister admitted that she was just fucking with me and she knew it was him all along.

We lived in Memphis when my Dad was stationed at Millington NAB. Whenever friends or family came to visit we'd haul them out to Graceland. Sometimes we drove out there just because. I can just imagine Elvis looking out his livingroom window saying, "There's that damn green station wagon again. Who ARE those people???"
Anyway, we hung on the gates, drinkin' our RC Cola and trying to get a glimpse of The King. We never did. Once, though, a big limo drove up and it was the Osmond Brothers, including Donny. They stopped, got out, gave us all autographs, etc. Now this was early 70s and I 'bout pissed my pants!!! Another time we saw Shirley Jones and her family but they didn't stop the car. I cried for two days straight because I wanted David Cassidy to stop and talk to me.
I. Was. Dev. A. Stated.
They were in the exact same model of station wagon as ours but it was gold. My mother thought that justified her purchase of our hideous vehicle that we nicknamed "The Wooden."
Now I'm grown up, SO over the Osmonds and David Cassidy, and back home near Houston. I've seen Lance Berkman at a restaurant and Craig Biggio at a high school football game. They are both just as gentlemanly up close as they are on the field.
Cool note: My great-grandma lived in Bogota, TN almost all her life. She was on her porch shelling peas c.1960, and two limos drove up the road. One was pink. The other white. They pulled up to her neighbors' house and out pops Elvis and his entourage. He was delivering one of the limos to a family with a sick son so that they could travel to Memphis for treatment. All the folks (in Bogota, that's about 15-20 people) went over to meet Elvis and he was very sweet. In the early 90s, the Hubster and I took GG back to Graceland but she refused to go inside. She said it was a travesty what they'd done to Elvis' home.
p.s. For the one who spoke of attending High School with the Van Halen boys: Girl, I'd would have gotten in SO much trouble if that had been me. But it sure would have been fun!

Wow - cool meetings Voice, I used to have such a crush on Donny. Was Shawn in the car with Shirley?

Yes, he was! He was a bit young then, as was I. David was the big star. However, a few years later Shawn graced my bedroom walls with all the Tiger Beat pages I could tear out. Then I started liking Van Halen, Journey, and Foreigner so the Cassidys and Donny Osmond became SO passé.

Well, I just celebrated a birthday that doesn't exactly signify "fresh." More like um...vintage.
