I'm heading to Vegas next month & have only been there once before about 10 years ago. What are a couple of good, non-pretentious places to check out? As in, no dress code, no cover charge, just people drinking & having a good time?

My husband and my favorite bar in Vegas is "The Peppermill". It's on the strip, next to the Riviera and across the street from the Stardust. It is the first stop we make when we get to Vegas. It is about the coolest loungey type atmosphere you could hope for. It's all red, and black and silver and dark- looks a little bit like the Starship enterprise (and my new kitchen!). It has this loungy 70's feel to it. And it is totally comfortable- sunken in couches with really cool music video concerts playing on all these little plasma TV's. We love the place- ask if Mary can be your waitress- she's the best! (And she has been there for like fifteen years). Completely unpretentious, and totally casual dress, no cover. I am jealous- I would love to be going to the Peppermill next month! Let me know what you think of it. YOU MUST GO!!! (also, FYI all the Vegas "Locals" hang out there, it is very "non-touristy". it was also in the movie "Casino" and a few others I can't think of). Have Fun!!

Actually, TVholic, it's not just our favorite bar in Vegas, it is our favorite bar anywhere. (And we have traveled a lot). And be careful of the "Washington Apple Martini's" One night about seven or eight years ago I drank like six or seven of them and got back to the Hotel and barfed all night... didn't matter- I Still had a blast.
