View Full Version : The Soup!

At the recommendation of Tink, I am starting this thread about one of my favorite shows, The Soup. I was deprived of E! as an adolescent and so missed out on most of the old Talk Soup shows/hosts, but my husband and I do not miss an episode of The Soup if we can help it. Joel McHale is a hottie and so effing funny! My favorite things about the show: the indestructible cheerleader, replays of Whitney saying "KISS MY ASS!", replays of Tyra saying "KISS MY FAT ASS!", and Little Gay, as well as every other inside joke. What I miss: Brokeback Kong and Tony Danza's awkward segways. I even love his discussions of shows I don't watch and news I didn't hear about. The show is just that good. It's sort of like B-Side and J-Units recaps in that way.
I hope you guys have discovered this gem! Do you guys love it too?

I am so thrilled that you made this thread!
I love the soup. Joel McHale is so snarky it makes him hot as hell!
And I so love the little chihuahua clip of the week.
I haven't watched this week's but will catch it before the weekend is out.

Yeah, well as I told you, be careful--it ruined the finale of BATG for me before I watched my tape. But I can't stay mad at Joel long.
And poor Lou...he has been CLIPPED so many times--he must have had quite a package to start out with to have anything left to clip! :D

I'm a SOUP fan too. My favorite host was Hal Sparks, but I find Joel pretty snarky too. I love when he dresses like K-Fed.

Hal Sparks was great. Skunk Boy was even funnier.
I don't catch a lot of The Soup but have laughed at them. I think I might add this to my long list of shows that I watch.

In honour of the all the Talk Soup hosts
Greg Kinnear (1991–1995)
John Henson (1995–1999)
Hal Sparks (1999–2000)
Aisha Tyler (2001–2002)
Joel McHale (2004-Present)
Personally, I'm going to have to go with Greg Kinnear as the pioneer of Talk Soup. Skunk Boy was pretty good as a replacement... I sorta ignored the Hal Sparks years and Aisha Taylor wasn't that bad. Though I enjoying Joel McHale... even if the show is ripping off of Best Week EVER!

I love this show! And it's more fun as time goes on b/c they reuse the same jokes over and over again and you just laugh harder and harder each time.

I'm so glad some one started this thread. I love the soup!!!!
I started watching it when it was John Henson. (I think I am a little to young for Greg Kinnear)
I also love the Whitney Houston "Kiss my ass!" Clip. And the episode when they had Tyra's "Kiss my black ass!" and the Whitney clip in kind of a face off. Hilarious!!!

My boyfriend will even watch the Soup, and he won't watch anything unless it's Mythbusters or an old Spaghetti Western.

It's so true--my husband won't watch almost any of the shows they FEATURE on The Soup but he loves The Soup. I of course love reality shows so I have often watched many of the clips already and, much like I anticipate J-Unit or B-Side's snarks while watching a show, I do the same for Joel McHale.

I love this show too! It makes me LOL each week.
what is the timeslot for the new episode? It seems as if I always catch the repeat later on in the week.
every time I turn on E now, they seem to be talking about Anna Nicole.

Central time the new episode airs 9PM on Fridays. We are out a lot at that time, so we catch the repeat if we miss it.

I love this show too. It never fails to make me laugh out loud and rewind and laugh again.
Kiss my ass, never grows old. I also miss the Danza moments.
I also love the Best Week Ever!

Ralph Fiennes made advances on a flight attendant! :huh2:
What happened to my sexy and understated English Patient? Looks like he spent too much time with his Tyra Banks Do-it-Yourself Ego Inflator.
Joel McHale + Dame Judy Dench = Totally Erotic ;)

HAHA  I LOVED that image of Joel and the Dame in bed together. That's some libido-stoking material if you ask me!

Tonight's Soup was hilarious - then again they all are. I am digging Joel's facial hair - it's kinda hot.
I loved when in talking about the new Pussycat Dolls show he said "No I don't wish my girlfriend was anything like you"
I heart Joel. :infatuated:

Yeah, Joel is hot!
I loved their dissection of the Real World women's emotional cycles. Something like: elated, angry, melancholy, drunken blackout. SO TRUE! And the video to go with it, priceless. And he called out Brooke's new boobies on the Road Rules commercial.
Does anyone remember a clip that they play frequently, with a woman saying "she drives a PT Cruiser" in a funny way?
Well, I just came home from vacaton where the car rental company gave us a PT Cruiser. I'm telling you, every time I got in that car, I heard that lady's voice.

May, it's an old clip from Extra or something and it's Heather Mill's publicist. I laugh my ass off every time they play that clip, and I too hear that woman every time I think about a PT Cruiser. That is too funny! :D

I love Joel for saying what I've been saying for a couple weeks now about the moron on Myspace who is fasting until Sanjaya goes home.
She says she is staying well-hydrated--"with what? gravy?!?" You know, you act like an idiot, you open yourself up to public ridicule. And that's why I love The Soup!

Last night on the Soup Joel was talking about Heather Mills on DWTS. He called Heather "Yoko Uno". I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!
Welcome fairydusted, we can always use more pixie dust here in the forums.

They showed the Dame Judy Dench (sp?) and Joel photo again. I love that picture!!
This weeks "What the Kids are Watching" creeps me out. Every time they show that cook drag queen - it gives me the willies. And what's with the shoe???

I agree aca--I tried to set a reminder on my cable box for that show, Gina D's Kids Club, but when I went to watch it, it was something else entirely. I am dying to catch some of that crazy mess.

I am bumping this thread because I still absolutely love this show, and the "commercial" last night for the Mary Murphy Wake Up Call was absolutely hilarious.
Joel McHale is my boyfriend. If I could just get him away from Dame Judi Dench.

Why am I always getting into fights over men with girls on the forii? Can't we work this out?
Listen, why don't we just take on Dame Judi together and then you can have Joel on the weekends (when my hubby's around so much he'd notice the extra guy) and I'll take him on the weekends? Sound good? :)

Did anyone catch the Soup last night? Joel ended the show with a mention of Heath Ledger - it went something like this:
"Heath Ledger passed away this week and in all the years we've been doing this show we've never had cause to mention him. So stop digging thru the dirt weasels! A talented decent guy is gone and our thoughts go to those who knew him."
If I didn't already love Joel - I sure would love him more now. What a class act!

I saw it too and was glad he said that. He is a class act because even after Anna Nicole died, and Lord knows she gave that show lots of material, he ended that show with a nice thought about her.

My husband and I never miss The Soup! (we insert the exclamation point ourselves) and what he said was thoughtful and true.
On another note, his bit about "How She Move" was hilarious. He be correct that it be stupid. Those movie producers is angering me naming a movie so stupid! Grammer shmammer.

Last night's episode was the greatest one in a long time, and that's saying a lot since this is easily one of my favorite shows. I fell over laughing twice. The joke about Vanilla Ice being told by the court to "Stop. Collaborate. And Listen" was TOOO hilarious. I seriously love Joel McHale.
(my new sig line is from something I learned from last night's show).

How'd you like the Rock of Love clip - with the animals doing it, and the nature footage. hehe
