I saw that Firecat started a World Cup thread, just wondering if there are any other Soccer fans out there. I watch the any Premiership matches I can and every Man U game.

I fully expect this thread to die with this sole, lonely post though.

I'm a fan of Newcastle United. Used to be a fan of Alan Shearer.

I have my teams that I like, from different leagues. I don't really follow though....i'm more into the larger events.

However, I'll probably start watching MLS when Beckham starts playing.

Awesome, so happy to have some other people on here that don't think it sucks. Alan Shearer was an amazing player. When I got into following the sport he was at the top of his game, I've always been a fan. Its looking like they will lose Michael Owen this summer. That should be a huge blow to them, but its not like he done a damn thing (other than get injured) since he got there.

Did you see the movie "Millions" by Danny Boyle? There is a big bank robbery in it and all the crooks are wearing Newcastle jerseys. The cops chase them and they lead them straight to the stadium as it is letting out after a match. The bad guys get lost in the sea of black and white stripes and get away from the cops. Brilliant.

I'm really curious to see how much of an effect Beckham has on the sport over here. I would love for it get more mainstream I just don't see it happening. I know my wife will be watching more though.

Im a Newcastle (as im from there) and a Liverpool fan.

As you mention the film Millions (I can't remember the newcastle bit in it, its set in Ireland isn't it?), have you seen the movie Goal! which is all Newcastle United. Its a good movie, with cameo's from most of the Newcastle squad and from the likes of David Beckham.

If I remember correctly Millions took place in Scotland, but the robbery happened in England.

Haven't seen Goal! we'll have to check it out. I did think Mean Machine was alright, but that was really just because I love Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham.

I'm a fan of Liverpool b/c my bf is from there, and we went to watch them beat Chelsea at the pub while we were there and it was awesome! (Too bad they lost to Milan in the finals). Steven Gerrard is hot, but my fave LFC player is the goalie, Pepe Reina (sp?).

My bf HATES Man United and David Beckham (the latter b/c he knows I think he's cute and he thinks he ruined England's chances at the World Cup) so when we were in London I bought a Beckham keychain just to piss him off.

I think that Becks will definitely give soccer a boost here in the States and for that he should be thanked if soccer fans want more exposure here.

While I love Man U, I am also partial to Liverpool and Arsenal (I have no idea why, I just sort of gravitated to those teams when I started watching).

Liverpool beating Chelsea was a beautiful thing. My neighbor is from Ireland and LOVES Liverpool. He was not amused when I came over his house one night with my Man U jersey on. I really need to find a pub around here to watch some of the games. Nothing beats my living room, but it would be nice to get some good fish and chips with it.

there HAS to be a good pub somewhere around you. We went to watch the final game at a pub here called The Londoner. It was FULL of soccer fans, and has a full menu of English food so it was fun (although very hot inside b/c of all the people).

The funny thing about LFC is that their new owner (Tom Hicks) is from Texas and also owns two teams here, so when we were in Liverpool- I just told people I was representing the Texas contingency of LFC fans! My bf's cousins were fans of Everton though, so they liked giving him a hard time.

Well next summers European Championships wont feature a british team in the finals as they have all failed to qualify.

England just needed a draw tonight against Croatia to qualify and they got beat 3 - 2.

Scotland lost on Saturday to end their hopes, Northern Ireland had a slight chance if they beat Spain and Sweden lost but that didn't happen, Wales and Republic of Ireland had already failed to qualify.

Well Newcastle United have just appointed their former manager Kevin Keegan as their new manager after sacking Sam Alladyce last week.

LOL...do I sense a bit of sarcasm here??? j/k :sneaky:

My favorite players are Fernando Torres from Liverpool...he is an amazing player and Robby Keane who was at Tottenham, then Liverpool and now back at Tottenham.

So, FOOTBALL not soccer is the reason we have cable. My hubby is from across the pond which is why i stress football. Anyway, I felt bad that he moved all the way here so I got him cable so he could watch football. And let me tell you on weekends I am just sooo happy we have the fox soccer channel so I can listen to the games. The lame thing is, is that he supports Tottemham Hotspur, a club outside of London, who is only on tv once maybe twice a month. But he still enjoys watching the matches on tv.
