Last night's premiere was actually 2 episodes back to back. The first episode was focused around Spencer and Heidi's housewarming party. I don't know how after Season 2 ended that season 3 began filming but it seemed very contrived that they would be conveniently having their housewarming party when the cameras were around to catch the manufactured drama.

The second episode was focused on Spencer's engagement proposal to Heidi. Again - it seems these two are manufacturing scenarios to grab all the focus.

I thought the way Spencer bought the ring was ridiculous. Where do you buy an engagement ring that only has one corner counter full of real 18k gold? And he didn't even get a ring box. Cheap.

The proposal was also lame. I can almost picture Spencer and Heidi rehearsing their lines before the cameras rolled.

Spencer: Ok, I'm gonna propose first then you make a comment about how I am the only person you can trust.

Heidi: OOH ok, and I'll say how everyone says I should dump you but I know the real you.

Spencer: Perfect, just be sure not to get in the way of my close up.

The scenes for next week look like more MTV choreographed drama. Lauren is out to dinner with Jason (why does she do that?) and Heidi and Spencer show up to heckle her.

I know they showed Kathy Conrad at the end of the show tonight saying how worried she is about Lauren being chewed up by Hollywood. But Kathy - if you really care - why don't you discourage your daughter from being on a show that's going to keep tossing her in front of the very people who are tearing her down?

I very much enjoyed both episodes last night. The fight between Heidi and Lauren at Les Duex was classic!

I also loved it when Spencer asked Brody if he brought his credit card "cause I might need to borrow $100,000.00" when they went to go buy the "engagement" ring. Then they walked into a costume jewelry store! You could have bought everything thing they had for less than that! I actually think this is the ring he got:

Tink the proposal did seem so rehearsed as did the invitation scene where Spencer made fun of her written invitations. I also agree with you trouble7 about Whitney's response.

I enjoyed seeing Lo and Audrina's new beau is creepy.

i think it's hysterical that audrina's new boyfriend is mid name change. and when lo questioned him about it, he really couldn't answer what stage of the name change he was at. his friends call him "bobby" but audrina still calls him "justin." confused much?

u felt the same way about whitney, bt she is always like that when lauren talks to her. she is not a good actress at all.

i wish lauren hadnt fought with heidi. she is just giving them what they want. however i cant blame her, that letter was so stupid.

that ring was god awful. im guessing heidi lost it right away. spencer is really weird though. he at first wanted to move in with heidi to take heidi away from lc. he kept telling brody that he wouldnt change and that he still had his pimp phone or whatever last season. now the relationship is perfect and he wants to marry her? the only reason its "perfect" is b/c heidi agrees with everything he says.

Yup- next we'll have the staged Engagement Party. Isn't it great that they can time all their big events to when the cameras are around. It reminds me of Warren Beatty in Truth or Dare, Madonna was sick or something was going on that was private and someone asked if they should turn off the cameras. Warren said - "No you can't turn off hte cameras, She doesn't want to live unless there are cameras watching"

Did anyone else want to take a pair of scissors to all the girls last night? They all seem to be in the awkward stage of growing out bangs and everyone of them had long pieces of hair falling in their faces. I wanted to grab scissors, a headband or a barrette to get that hair out of their faces (do I sound like my mom now?)

So here is my Question do you think LC will date Jason again? When LO asked her that during the promo she had a look on her face like yeah and don't be giving me any shit over that. I would think that she would diffently be over him. I did like that he was upset about Spencer and Hiedi talking shit about him and LC. May be he is a changed man:sneaky: just like that Justin creep.

Justin looked like a realy loser. I loved how LC told Audrina that they had different taste in men. (she ment) Don't sit me up with your loser boyfriends loser friends. Who would want to date anyone or that persons friend who takes a girl to Vegas and strands her there. That in it's self is a really good reason not to give him another chance. If a man ever took me out of town and left me stranded that would be the last time we ever talked to each other.

My notable things from last night's episodes.

Heidi's still just as much of an idiot as she was last season, if not more now. Actually, I think more now because Spencer's got her leash on pretty tight. The look on her face when she walked into Spencer's "art" in the living room was fantastic. I hate Spencer's snarky remarks to everything, he makes it impossible to think there's any good in him. Maybe he and Heidi are meant to be after all.

The proposal gets its own paragraph. Who the hell buys an engagement ring in a boutique? I'd understand if it were a jewelry boutique but it was like an accessories boutique with ONE rack of 18K jewelry. Not a case, a rack. And he asked Brody for money? Is the exploiting business not raking in the bacon for you anymore, Spencer? OH and did anyone notice the sales lady's super fake "Aw that's so sweet"? And the actual proposal. There was no box for the ring, he didn't get on one knee, he didn't actually ask her to marry him and she didn't say yes. Super staged. Yay Speidi.

Whitney, I love her to pieces. She's so out of it, she makes me laugh. I'm sure she's grateful that MTV's around to score her that job at Teen Vogue because I'm not sure she would've gotten it on her own. My favorite Whitney moment of the night was at the club when Lauren held that unfortunate British guy hostage and asked Whitney if she thought the guy was cute because she (Lauren) couldn't tell since she was drunk. Whitney flat out said no and that basically sealed my love for her. Team Wh-Wh-Whitney!!

Audrina's becoming Lauren's puppet against Heidi, I can see it. Even though she has her Cisco Adler wannabe boyfriend against Lauren's wishes, she's still basically under Lauren's thumb. And I like how she just leaves her desk at the front of the Epic Records office building just to gossip with what's her face... Chiara? Sure.

Lauren... hmm. I'm not sure what to say about her. And it's too early in the morning to figure it out so I'll probably come back to this later. Hahaha.

I totally forgot about the spray painting on the walls!!! When Heidi first walked in, I noticed the paint under the counter and said "What the hell is that?" My husbands reply "Looks like someone puked on the wall"

It cracks me up that Douche (Spencer) wants to show that he an adult, in this super great relationship, but has to do that to the walls of his apartment, like it's his bachelor pad that he lets his girlfriend stay in.

I have no one else to talk to about the HILLS!! I didn't want to read the recaps either, since I assume they will stink and be neither clever or funny. On to my thoughts on the show.

Im glad that everyone thought it was rediculous that spencer went and bought an engagement ring at some boutique. I also laughed at the part where he asked Brody for his CC! What a douchebag. His proposal was lame too.

Also I was kinda taken aback by the new angry lauren. After watching this episode it became clear that there is a LC and Jason sex tape. She must have told Heidi in confidence and since she only told heidi, then it was easy for her to find out that she was the one who let the secret out. Why else would she be so upset at Heidi if it wasn't true? Anyone could have made up that story but the fact that she is specifically mad at Heidi about it makes it obvious that it is true.

Overall I thought the episode was good. The previews looked awesome too! When Heidi commented "Well I hope they make another movie together" right after you see spencer walk past LC and Jason and snicker " Nice to see you two back together". I hope jason gets up and knocks the eff out of Spencer after that....I can only dream.

Have Mercy! - My rear end was glued to the TV last night - Hell's Kitchen, SYTYCD, The Hills AND Newport Beach? All in one night?! It was, like, the best TV night EVER.

Anyway, loved last night's episodes. I agree with everyone else - the whole Speidi bits were totally staged. Watching the new season just totally confirmed to me what a douchebag Spencer really is. Hubby sat and watched part of the episodes with me, and when Spence walked into that boutique, he looks at me and says - "ok. number one. That's NOT an engagement ring. Number two. Who buys an engagement ring from a store that sells purses? What a douchebag." I laughed.

His next comment was on JustinBobby - "What a creepshow. I'd want to shower after talking to him."

The graffiti in the apartment was completely priceless.

Can't wait for next week - I "heart" some staged drama!

I think I laughed the hardest when Heidi walked in and Spencer had all that horrible graffiti shit on the wall. HI-laroius!

When he proposed to her and she was saying how perfect they were for each other, and how loyal he was I was just left wondering... has that little girl WATCHED the show? Did she have it muted during the homeboy phone comment?! Delusional!

I love LC's mom. I wish she would just own up that she probably read's TVgasm all the time and that's where she read the sex tape comment. Did we ever figure out if it was really her in our comments section?

The only thing faker than Spencer are Heidi's new jugs.

The impending Justin-Bobby disaster should be great fun to watch. Props to Audrina who can't be bothered with advice, warning signs, or red flags... she just has to crash the plane into the mountain herself.

Is Whitney anything more than an airheaded parrot? I swear, every conversation with her sounds like the following:

Whitney: Wow. It's raining outside.

Anyone Else: No, Whitney. It's 95 degrees and we're in the middle of a 2 month drought.

Whitney: Yeah. That's what I was saying...

"Vapid" doesn't even begin to describe her. Harmless, but vapid.

As for the Kunt from Crusted Butt, it was nice to see that shooting started before the skin on her nose had a chance to heal. The fun bags may be a nice change, and I'm sure her new blower is within structural tolerances, but the damn thing just doesn't fit her face. She was prettier before it, and now she just looks like a future divorced trophy wife with a nose job.

Finally a big shout out to Spencer for getting in touch with his inner Queer Eye. His beautiful "Hollywood $$$" mural looks like he invited Trading Spaces over to shoot their "Tagger" episode.

How sad is it that the best thing anyone can hope for from Season 3 is hoping the so-called LC Sex Tape happens to surface? With any luck, that little MILF-ette, Kathy Conrad, will make a guest appearance. She's a boner-fide honey.

I love that Kathy Conrad seems so down to earth -- however, her comment about the world being different outside of LA really applies to outside of all of California. Don't take this personally Cali girls, as there are many great girls here, but I've never met so many shallow mindless twits before moving here.

Audrina always has this "duh" look on her face -- I don't believe anything is going on inside that head of hers. There's something about her face that irritates me -- is she cross-eyed?

I love Whitney. She's precious.

I'm excited for the Brody/Spencer split up.

I've thought on this awhile and just see that "art" as a way of Spencer getting her tighter into his grips. It's as if he dared her to say she didn't love it and she looked like she wouldn't dare say that she didn't like it. I don't think I'm that different from most people and trust me if I came home and saw that caca on my wall, I'd say "what the f*ck is that and when are you painting over it." But Heidi is so desperate she looked actually frightened to say anything as if she did, he'd dump her...and he knows it.

I LOOOOVE LO! I'm so thrilled she's back. Their conversation about Justin Bobby was so hilarious, props to Lauren and Lo for the funny.

I agree with everyone in this thread, WTF Spencer. He didn't even say," Will you marry me." My guess is that if Heidi goes....we're engaged! He could always go...I never asked you to marry me!

Funny, Brody said something really smart to the Douche, and I agreed with him. Seriously, just because you had one good year with Heidi....doesn't mean marriage. But then again, it's staged...so it doesn't matter.

Oh, and back to Lo-Lauren. I liked their talk about having to change a man....oh these two....funny and wise. :thumbup:

To think, the preview didn't even showcase all of the season because they're still shooting it. This season is going to kick ass!

The look on Spencer's face when he walked in and she was in the middle of his "surprise" - you could just see that he was trying his hardest not to kick her in the face. Then he had no actual arguement (because she grew a brain for 3 minutes). It was my favorite moment of this entire show!

Isn't it just sick that we all get the same feeling that he would have hit her if the cameras weren't there? I really wouldn't be surprised if he didn't abuse her privately. Most abusers just don't stop at mental abuse.

Julie, I totally thought the same thing - - he looked like he was about to hit her. And you could tell Heidi was uneasy too, she was walking around, not sitting still, sweating a bit; and then the parting shot of him sitting staring at the wall, then finally beginning to paint over it was weird too. That girl is destined for a life of anxiety, heartache and constant judgement from Spencer if she stays with him. I hope she gets over the high of being engaged ("O-M-G!!!!1" - Elodie) and snaps back to earth and realizes what a complete and total prick he is.

I made my friend watch the Hills from Monday for the first time last night and the first words out of his mouth about Spencer were "what a douchebag". I didn't even have to prep him with backstory for that one.

Elodie was pretty funny telling Heidi not to buy a wedding dress anytime soon. I think that one sailed over her head however.

even though i was happy to not have to stare at that horrible "art", im not giving heidi too much credit for it. i still think she should have stuck up for herself more. its totally obvious hes being a sarcastic douche when she tells him they need to make decisions together and that he cant be mad at her. i wont be happy with this show until someone ties spencer to a chair, confonts him on everything, then maybe sets the chair on fire.

When Heidi's mom brought up Lauren while Heidi was in the bathroom at the restaurant, and then Spencer went OFF about what a brat Lauren is, I saw the lightbulb go off in mom and dad's minds - they now know that Spencer is the problem.

I was also interested to hear that whenever Heidi gets a boyfriend, she dumps all her friends - so this is totally her MO.

I also loved how in the preview for next week, Brody says "Spencer broke up with me" Classic!!

I think:

A - Why would Brody bother?

B - Where'd he get the sextape info in the first place?

C - What does he have to gain by doing this? If anyone thinks they have something to gain by this (like making a more drama filled season 3) it's Spencer.

I call shenanigans on Heidi, it's real easy to blame someone who isn't there to defend themselves.

Another thought - if it IS Brody, why wouldn't Heidi tell Lauren that? Instead of getting blamed like she did at the club.

And, if Spencer doesn't like that Lauren and Brody are hanging out, and he breaks up with Brody because of it, wouldn't you just give Lauren the proof that Brody was the one spreading rumors, so that she doesn't want to hang with him anymore, and keep your mealticket, I mean, best friend?

It seemes that whoever is not in the room is the one to blame. Heidi blamed Jen for the flirtmance with Brody, Jen blamed Heidi and Brody, everyone points the finger at everyone else but then they huddle back up and make friends against the common enemy of the week. It's really very high school.

Actually, in the previews she says she's going out with him again. And in the After Show when asked about him she blushed and giggled. So my take away on that is that she is still seeing him. :bored:

I'm starting to understand Lauren more and more, especially in this episode. I think that real reason why she was upset and hurt by Heidi is because she stuck with Heidi even if Jason hated her.

omg when I saw those boots I cracked UP! Who does that?!?

Also I cringed at all the fakeness that came out of spencers mouth when he was having a 1to1 talk with Heidi's dad. Did anyone find it wierd that they were having lunch and then randomly his dad-while eating-asks spencer in front of everyone to go for a walk together and have their talk...That seemed so STAGED!

Someone said Audrina was cute, I don't think she is cute at all, she wears way too much makeup it seems. And when she was in the water you could tell how much she wore by looking at the color of her face compared to the rest of her body.

Oh and was no one else cracking up the moment they saw Brody's entire arm in a cast! Then he tried to make lauren feel bad about her laughing out loud when she saw it. It was surreal, thank goodness that lauren was on the same page as I and told brody that it was rediculous that he broke a finger yet came back with his entire arm in a cast.

I enjoyed this episode because lauren said so many things that I was thinking. And when she cried about losing a best friend, it felt sincere, even though that could have been a drunk cry.

This whole "Lauren is obsessed with me!" thing that Heidi and Spencer are saying is exactly something from Mean Girls!

Am I the only one who sees the comparison? Regina told everyone that Janis was obsessed/in love with her because Janis was upset that Regina was spending more time with her boyfriend.

Hi -- I usually lurk around here, but I have a question I cannot get answered elsewhere...
How do Heidi and LC know each other? I was under the impression that they were already 'best friends' when they started being roommates the first season, so I assumed that Heidi grew up in Laguna Beach but didn't participate in the shows. But apparently, she grew up in Crested Butte. So, how do they know each other?

Minda's right. During Lauren's first attempt at college she went to San Fran to be near Steven and met Heidi. Then when she took that semester off she was back in Laguna and had her friend Heidi visit. Heidi also modeled in the MudSlide Fashion Show - the very show where Jason (creep) hooked up (gasp) with Jessica (tramp).

When Heidi got offered the Hills, I mean um... when she decided to go back to school she moved in with Heidi and isn't it nice that MTV decided to follow. (I mean orchestrate the whole thing)

Minda's right. During Lauren's first attempt at college she went to San Fran to be near Steven and met Heidi. Then when she took that semester off she was back in Laguna and had her friend Heidi visit. Heidi also modeled in the MudSlide Fashion Show - the very show where Jason (creep) hooked up (gasp) with Jessica (tramp).

There is something very junior high about Lauren & Heidi's relationship -- or maybe like my junior high experience. I was in a group of 4 girlfriends in 7th grade, we were all close. In 8th grade, the two who used to be least close suddenly became 'best friends' -- they used to go around saying 'we're best friends!' to everyone. And it was hurtful to the other two of us. In 9th grade, began to 'hate' me, for no reason that anyone could explain to me, then sort of turned on all of us and we were never friends with her again. The two of us who were left out in 8th grade are still quite close to this day (I hate to say this, but this is now <ahem> 25-30 years later)...

That's why this feels like Heidi and LC to me -- 'we're best friends'... 'no we hate each other'... and we are going to talk about it all the time!

Guys you'll never believe this... but my town has it's very own JustinBobby.

We walked into a local restaurant the other day and this guy comes out of the back to ring us up, and me and my friend turn to each other and mouth "JustinBobby". Sadly, his name is neither Justin nor Bobby, which would have been just too weird. I'll work on getting a picture... but he was already sort of weirded out that we wanted to know his name.

i def. like detoxed jason, however, he and lauren seem so awkward sometimes in their conversations...like they have nothing to say, so they fill the time by making goofy looks at each other. before heidi and spencer came to ketchup, they weren't even talking, just both looking at their cell phones...so weird, b/c when my friends and i go out to eat, we talk the entire time...
i think lauren was hoping that she could get back together w/the new and improved jason. i think she thinks the only reason they didn't work was due to his "bad habits." but if he gave up those habits, they would be good together again. sad.

Well - as far as Lauren and Jason giving each other looks the whole time. That's what Lauren does. Watch her with Whitney in the cloffice - she is constantly making eyes. She does it at home too with Audrina.

I am not sure how much is that she makes a lot of faces and how much is MTV editing out the actual conversations and leaving us with the awkward glances instead.

Btw, have you seen Lauren in the audience of Celebrity Rap Superstart supporting Jason? Is she there as a friend or rekindled gf?

Maybe this is just me but Lauren is a total B#@ch this season:thumbdown: . All of a sudden she is so cliqueish. The entire reason Lauren choose to stop hanging Heidi is because she didn't trust that Spencer really cared for Heidi. Now Spencer has proven himself and regardless of how annoying he is, he seems to really care for Heidi. So then some rumors were started.... big freaking deal, get over it. I didn't hear about anything other than the sex tape and if it's not true, who gives a damn!!If Heidi and Lauren were as close as they both claim they were at once, you think Lauren would just drop it. I feel sorry for Heidi who actually put herself out there.

Lauren totally threw it in her face. Can't say I don't see where Lauren is coming from. Heidi did nothing when Spencer was being a tool and starting rumors. You can't tell me she didn't realize it was happening.

I usually don't watch this show, it just doesn't hold my attention for some reason. But, the other night I watched an episode with Audrina (I think that's her name, the girl with dark hair and really white teeth) and she was breaking up with some guy. And the guy said "Your friends don't fathom me at all" That is the strangest turn of phrase I have heard in a while.

Also, Audrina has the deadest eyes I have ever seen. Seriously, someone should check for a pulse, she might be a zombie.
