I am currently on babysitting duty watching my neices five (yes FIVE) daughters ages 2-11 while they are whooping it up in Vegas. I am with them every morning and every evening (with work in between, which is, by the way, easier than watching 5 children).
I have been subjected to Nick at Night for hours on end - I think I have now seen every episode of "Full House" that I avoided growing up. The 80's were TRULY an ugly time!! They also watch a bunch of crap on Disney that doesnt even qualify as tv. So I started thinking about the shows of our youths - ones that I havent even seen in Reruns or on UPN or TVland...
What were your favorite shows growing up - the ones you NEVER missed? Did you like the obscure game shows? Grandma ever make you watch Soap Operas? Did your parents ever ban a show in your house? (We werent allowed to watch The Three Stooges - too violent!). Did you parents force you to watch Public TV? Remember when TV only had 7 channels?
Ever watch an old favorite NOW and realize "What the hell was I thinking as a kid"?
Some of the oldies I remember fondly (and wish there was a TVgasm to recap):
Soap
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman/Fernwood Tonight
Dynasty
Land of the Lost
Little House on the Prarie
Hill Street Blues
Knots Landing
Moonlighting
Waltons
Your turn...
Some good ones in there, Jellie! I fondly watched 'Little House on the Prairie' and later on, I remember watching & loving 'Moonlighting'---I can hear the opening theme song playing in my head right now ('some fly by night, some fly by day....)
My list of others:
Three's Company---it was on around 5 PM or so, so aftr homework, this was what we watched. I recently caught a few mins. of an episode---so dorky! Jack was loveable tho.
These are mostly sitcoms, not v recappable:
Growing Pains
Family Ties
Facts of Life
Silver Spoons
Cheers
Charles in Charge
Who's the Boss?
I've caught snippets of some of these shows & some of them, esp. Facts of Life, were really corny, causing a 'what was I thinking?' moment like u mentioned.

I remember watching Little House on the Prairie too. It was my favorite for a long, long time. My family also watched Walt Disney Presents (or something like that), Bonanza and The Waltons.
My parents are Catholic and were very strict about what movies we could watch. There was some Catholic newspaper they subscribed to and if that paper said a movie was unfit for Catholics, we were not allowed to see it.
LOL - Jellipair, I remember Land of the Lost. Definite 'what was I thinking' show.

I didn't watch much TV when I was younger (my grandmother had this rule, for every half hour of "crap" I wanted to watch, I had to watch an hour of Discovery Channel type stuff), but I do remember Who's the Boss being a big one, and Hey Dude! on Nickelodeon.

HR Pufnstuf was my very favorite Saturday morning show. And up until like two years ago, from midnight - 2:00 am they showed reruns of it on TVLand on Friday nights. It was so awesome. And then, one Friday, nothing. They just stopped out of the blue. I was so bummed. (My personal favorties were Kling and Klang and SneezyHouse).

Well, when I was real small: Electric Company and Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
And throughout my whole childhood, we sat as a family and watched The Waltons...with me and dad sobbing and laughing our way through each episode! Oh...and the Muppet Show! And we also sat together and watched the Sonny & Cher show! And Donny & Marie's show.
The Brady Bunch, HR Pufnstuf, The Partridge Family, The Lost World, The Bob Newhart Show (both of them), Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith, Leave it to Beaver, Welcome Back Kotter, Green Acres, I Dream of Jeannie, Hogan's Heroes...
Oh, gosh, I could go on & on!!! I just googled shows from the 60s-80s, and it's no wonder I'm such a TV addict! I watched ALL of them :o I could just copy & past the lists here!

Obstinant Girl-
I loved all of those shows! Especially the variety hours- Sonny and Cher; Donny and Marie; Captain and Tennille... And now when you watch the reruns if TVLand or someone happens to air them, THEY ARE SO STUPID! I mean the humor is so frickin dumb and sappy- I guess they were going for the ten and under audience.
I have been watching I love the 70's II- on and off (vh1)... You should watch this- it is like a timewarp back through the 70's.
Also LOVED the Friday night lineup- Partridge Fam; Brady Bunch; Room 222; and what was the other one?
I also loved Family and wanted to be Buddy Lawrence.

At the beginning and end of fourth grade (which was 92-93), we had to fill out these "About Ourselves" sheets, including our favorite shows and color, food, what we want to be when we grow up, etc. Full House was far and away my favorite show. Now I can't get through five minutes of it without changing the channel to see what else is on.
I loved the Wonder Years. Several years ago they showed it on Nick at Night's Block Party Summer, but I haven't seen it since. I also really miss China Beach, though I think I got into that a little more in reruns on the History Channel, which they also don't show anymore.
Whenever Fresh Prince was on, I had to dance to it in the beginning. I was a chubby white girl, so it was particularly funny for my sister in high school to watch.
I really liked Small Wonder and Out of This World. Little House on the Prairie was one of my favorites when I was under 6.
Those are all the ones I remember right now.

I love this thread guys :)
I was a diehard Carol Burnett fan from as far back as I can remember. It seems like I watched it in the afternoon's at the babysitter's house, but my memory sucks. I'd watch it every day if it still came on somewhere. I think it'd hold up well.
I also loved so many of the ones you guys mentioned-Donny and Marie especially (when I was really little, I had a little wooden hammer that I tapped against the screen while that was on, hoping it'd break and Donny and/or Marie would come out of the tv into my living room).
I also loved that Mandrell Sister show, Hee Haw, and Solid Gold!! All my friends and I wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer and have Andy Gibb (or Rex Smith :)) for a boyfriend.
derder, I had no idea TVLand repeats Donny and Marie! I am going to be looking out for that.

Some of my favorites were:
You Can't Do That On Television
Barney Miller
Taxi
Charlie's Angels
The Electric Company (so much hipper than Sesame Street)
The Addams family (reruns every day after school)
The Love Boat and Fantasy Island on Sat nights
The Guiding Light (my grandmother and my mom's soap, now nobody has time to watch it)

I watched alot of those mentioned, plus The Great Space Coaster, Jem, and I remember a show called the New Zoo Revue...
I loved the New Zoo Revue (go figure). I even remember the theme song:
It's the New Zoo Revue coming right at you
it's the New Zoo Revue coming right at you
It's quite an unusual thing
the animals talk and sing
with Doug and Emmy Jo
everyday's a different show...
It's the New Zoo revue coming right at you
It's the New Zoo Revue coming right at YOU! :)
I also loved a lot of shows that you all have mentioned, especially The Facts Of Life and H.R. Puffenstuff. Did anyone mention the Hudson Brothers variety show? I think that it was part of the Kroft Superstars. I also liked watching the Mike Douglas show with my mom, and I LOVED and always will love the Muppets.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Saved By the Bell yet! It was all about Zach Morris and Kelly Kapowski when I was a tween. Other shows included Charles In Charge, Who's the Boss?, 90210, Melrose Place, Wings, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Cosby Show, Different World, Anamaniacs, Tiny Toons, Hey Dude!, Salute Your Shorts, Doug (I loved that theme song. My friend and I used to do a pretty kick ass version of it, if I do say so myself), California Dreams, Quantum Leap (random, I know), The Price Is Right (in the summer) and ABC's TGIF line-up.
God, so much of that was absolute crap, but, at the time, I ate it up.

Zoom. It was always about Zoom.
But I also remember watching Batman...that was an obsession for all the kids on the block. It was on twice a week: the first episode set up the "impossible" trap for Batman and his young ward, with the second episode solving the crime.
And there was the Courtship of Eddie's Father, Green Acres, Lidsville, Land of the Lost...wow. I am dating myself!

yes, we represent the true CRAP tv generation. Shows I have seen every episode of more than once:
Saved By the Bell
90210
Full House
I would have retained many brain cells if these shows had not been put into syndication...
Dinosaurs- I remember!
Nickalodeon was my fave- Family Double Dare, What Would You Do, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Wild and Crazy Kids- which is funny, to any Deadwood watchers out there because I think the new character is Omar Gooding

I was a tween in the very early 80s.
The kids shows I liked were Electric Company, 321 Contact, and the Smurfs. I used to get up at the crack of dawn and catch some show called "That's Cat". It came on after the farm report. Anyone? Anyone? *crickets*
My prime time lineup consisted of shows like Little House on the Prairie and Happy Days. The best was summertime, when you could catch all sorts of crazy reruns and gameshows on during the day. I loved Super Password, Scrabble, Wheel of Fortune and crap like that. And I'd watch reruns of the Brady Bunch, Gidget, Gilligan's Island, the Munsters.

I remember in 1st grade, I would come home every day and take a nap and then wake up and watch Gilligan's Island and then Batman. It was okay if I slept through GI, but NEVER Batman. Batman was the coolest. I would have married Adam West in an instant, LOL! I was also very into cartoons--Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo (the classic ones, NOT with Scrappy Doo...), Groovy Ghoulies, and many more but I can't remember the names.

Ah, the days when you could actaully burn yourself playing. The original version was a metal box that would get really hot from the light bulb. Not smart.
And I had a friend that actually bought Jarts...the lawn darts that some kid got impaled with. And there was Creepy Crawlers. You'd fill these metal molds with goop that was then superheated to form rubbery critters. I remember a kid getting sever burns with that.

Far and away the best toy ever... and Mall Madness and the Babysitters Club games...

Any time I'm in a larger mall (one with 3 stories or more like in Georgetown) I still cringe at the escalator and await a giant pinball to come crush me... LOL - I just kept a few things. I made the mistake of letting my oldest play with my Dawn dolls and she lost quite a few accessories.
For years Mattel stopped making the goop so my Fun Flowers set just collected dust, but then someone produced it again and I bought my sons insect molds and Power Ranger molds. Of course I had to supervise (and make some flowers) since the heating unit is so dangerous. I can't believe my parents bought this thing for me! Oh wait - there is something written on the heating unit "Caution Very Warm Surfaces".

Someone emailed me this a couple of months ago and even though it's a little corny, it's true. (and FYI: I was born in 1965 and when my mom went into labor with me, she was at the Hastings Country Club, sitting at the bar having a glass of wine and a cig (HA!- she would be arrested for that now).
Those Born 1960-1979!
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/
or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from
a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our
tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up or hanging out of a convertable on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank
koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chatrooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, built forts, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
There were no weapons in schools, no metal detectors to go through.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
Congratulations to those who survived growing up in the 60's and 70's!

Toys I remember well from when I was a kid:
Gnip-Gnop (ping pong but smaller and contained)
The Mystery Date game--I loved this game until mine broke and we always got stuck with the nerd...
Buck-a-roo (I actually saw this in the store the other day--too weird!)

I had one too! I can't remember what they were called though. Mine was purple and lived in a tulip. I just searched my closet and found her! Along with my Finger-Ding (sp?) Doll (where her outfit has a hole in the back and you put your fingers into her tights and your fingers are her legs).
Are you sure you're not my sister? She had one of those too. If I recall, it was pretty limited play. Basically, kick your "legs" out for a couple of time, take the thing off and go play with something else.
Games i liked: Connect Four, Operation, Concentration (not sure if that's the name---the one where there was a timer & u hadda complete some sort of puzzle b4 the timer went off, otherwise the whole thing would shatter?)
also not as exciting but i still used to luv Spirographics, i think it was called, were u used a 4 color pen to make different patterns using little plastic wheel things. (not a great description but i was thnkg abt ths thing just the other day)
I luv'd Barbie, but I wasnt allowed to have 1 til i was 10. I recently bought 1 for my fr'nd's baby, who just turned 3 (don't want her 2 miss out!)

I can still remember how this chocolate lipstick or lipgloss from Avon tasted. I think I may have had some back in '71...
as a kiddie, i was also fond of Hungry Hungry Hippos & Etch-a-sketch. I think some of these might still b around? I know I liked Life & Candyland, too, those are def'ly still around.
Oh & those plastic things u put water in2 & thn hadda press a button that would shoot air into the water & move the things floating around inside---the object was to get the things 2 land in a particular spot. Not a great description but maybe u guys will know what i'm talking abt.

Oh, yeah I remember those! Do you remember the Avon sample size lipsticks? They were the perfect size for kids playing dress-up. I loved to play dress up.
Also, I loved to play "war" with the neighborhood boys. I guess I was a well-rounded kid!
The first toy I ever fell in the love with was the Atari. God, I still love to play Space Invaders. I was talking about the video game Pitfall the other day at work, and my coworker had no idea what I meant! I felt so sorry for her.
Also, I remember going through a very strong Uno phase. I played it with my friends, and everyone in my family loved it. My favorite board games were Boggle, Monopoly, and Sorry. Sorry had that crazy bubble thing you would push instead of rolling dice, that was so fun!

It's basically hide and seek but with a flashlight.
My kids play this & call it Manhunt. I remember playing it as a kid, but I think we just called it 'Hide and Seek'...even at night & with flashlights (or not). I guess we weren't very imaginative!
I loved my Easy Bake Oven. And my Lite Brite.
But...other than that, I think we mostly played outside. We used
'found' items to create houses & streets & villages in the woods near my house. We'd go inside to get meals, but other than that we'd be outside all day long. And we also walked uphill to school, both ways! In the snow! With cardboard soles on our shoes!
But, seriously? There were MAYBE 3-4 working (receiption) television stations, no such thing as VCR/DVD/gamesystems/etc. I remember knowing a girl whose family had their OWN pinball machine! And an air hockey table! Wow. I was pretty happy that we had a pingpong table. And almost noone had their own swimming pool!

Wow - I just had so much fun catching up on this thread. You have taken me up and down memory lane.
Along with my Finger-Ding (sp?) Doll (where her outfit has a hole in the back and you put your fingers into her tights and your fingers are her legs).
My mom always gave us presents when she'd head off to the hospital to have a new baby (she had 6 of us so there were lots of prezzies). Anyhow, when she had my brother my three sisters and I each got one of those finger dings - so we had a complete set of the Monkees.
Does anyone remember Little Kiddles- I loved mine. And I still remember how they smelled... weird.
I had TONS of those little kiddles - I even had a little kiddle tree house, oh the fun I had with those - and they did have a smell.
Do you guys remember those bunny pins from Avon that had perfume inside of them? My mom hated Avon and wouldn't get me one, and I was so jealous of the girls that had them.
We got those bunny, chick and santa pins for Easter and Christmas as stocking stuffers. We had the lip gloss ones too which I would apply, lick off and apply again.
Anyone remember the Sunshine Family dolls?

I'm just catching up on this thread-it's been a little slice of heaven. I loved my easy bake oven, etch-a-sketch,and spirograph since I wasn't much of a Barbie girl.
The mystery date game sparked a little memory for me about the lunch pails my sister and I used to take to school. Did anyone have a Campus Queen lunch pail? It was made out of metal and had magnetic pieces so you could play a game when you were done eating lunch. Damn I wish I still had that thing, I bet it's worth a frickin' fortune now!
Oh, and when I was a kid, I loved Atom Ant, and Batman.

Yes, I am a girl but one of my favorite toys growing up HAD to be Rockem-Sockem Robots. For some reason, I thought they were the fun-est toy ever (maybe because they were my older brothers' and I coveted everything he had?). My slinky was pretty popular because our house had so many stairs. I also enjoyed Silly Putty on Sundays when the Comics came in color. We played a lot of Ping Pong too which I lost horribly.
I also loved puppets and marionettes. Some freak who built our house put in a built-in puppet stage in our basement, complete with lights and a seating area. I cant tell you how many countless plays and stories I would make my family suffer through. I am SUCH a drama queen (even today).
Lastly, I played with my Pet Rock, Sly (as in family stone...) a lot - its sad but I loved that rock.

I was a total girly girl- I love Barbies, Little Kiddles, My EasyBake oven (as previously mentioned), and apparently the artist in me emerged as a child because, as I stated, Lite Brite was my favorite toy.
I also LOVED playing with my friend Karen's fisher price people. (I had some... the barn, and the boat. OH remember the fisher price boat with the little diving board and the dingy???). But Karen was absolutely HOOKED UP with the Fisher Price people and toys. We would play for hours with them. We would make full houses, condo's, townhouses, and hotels out of shoeboxes, big boxes, milk crates- didn't matter. And she had a million little pieces (rugs, furniture, etc.) and of course these were for the Fisher Price people to live in. And now, appropriately enough, Karen is an Interior Designer.
Anyway, the one tom-boy thing I did love (if this is even Tomboy) was building forts! We had a very cool fort in our backyard by the river- We made it with railroad ties, my dad got us an actual midget sized door (sorry, not to offend little people- but, you know- those little half sized doors?) and the secret password was....
Dynamite! (oooohhhh-)
Also, Kick the Can was the big neighboorhood game. EVERY NIGHT!!

Holy crap! Mr. Wizard was one of my favorite shows ever! The best was when he had a child assistant named Christian. It convinced me that Mr. Wizard was truly a sadist. Christian was a bespectacled geek of a raw nerve. He was so jumpy and scared of everything. So, of course, Mr. Wizard had him work on EVERY experimetn that exploded, or made smoke, or shot something off into the air. I would see Christian at the beginning of a show and just know that it would be a good one.

I've searched the boards in general and didn't see any threads along these lines, but I apologize if there is a thread already like this.
What were everyone's favorite shows back in the day? When I was little, I was OBSESSED with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... I had EVERYTHING-- action figures, pajamas, bedding, tents, costumes-- it was insane. I've seen the new TMNT and it just doesn't do the original justice. They aren't friendly looking anymore. :(
I also loved Are you Afraid of the Dark? on Nickelodeon's Snick. I remember actually being scared of it.

Hey, Jersey. This is a neat idea!
I loved the Tom and Jerry cartoons. They were so fun, especially the ones where they were friends or united against a common enemy (I'm talking to you, Spike the bulldog!) There was one where they flooded the kitchen and then opened the freezer to freeze all the water and they ice skated on it. I thought that was the coolest thing.
I also used to watch a show called The Monster Squad, with Fred Grandy (yes, Gopher!) as the night watchman at a wax museum. The statues of Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man would come alive at night to go out and fight crime. It was the best and I had a little four- or five-year old crush on Walt.
I also loved to watch Kroft's Superstars with H.R. Puff 'N' Stuff, Land of the Lost and Kids are People, Too, or whatever it was called.
Ah, memories!

How many DVD's do Pete and Pete have? I only remember there being a handful of re-runs that they ran over and over and over. They were so worth it though-- I watched them constantly. It was really a pretty smart show for it's time. One of my favorite episodes was the one when little Pete and his friends tried to stay up for a whole week straight I think. And how can you forget Artie... The Strongest Man In the World (Imagine that I just did that in his voice, because I totally just did it-- at my desk-- at work-- haha)
Salute your Shorts was also my favorite followed by Hey Dude-- they should so come out with a Channel for old school Nickelodeon shows, because if you remember those then you must remember Snick and Are you Afraid of the Dark.
I LOVED Are you Afraid of the Dark... I still remember almost all the episodes... like the one where the girls got stuck in the dollhouse and they started turning into dolls. The one with the little boy ghost standing outside everyone's window saying "I'm cold" all creepy like. The Watcher in the Woods. The Phone Police. The one where the boys got stuck in a pinball arcade game. OMG I could go on and on... They were very much like the Goosebumps series by RL Stine that I read as a kid... loved those books too.

I own 2 of the DVD's so far, and I think there may be more coming out - I heard Artie's voice through your post - - THE STRONGEST MAN...IN THE WORLD!!! My fave character was Ellen, and to this day I still call people blowholes, just like little Pete did.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? was the best, they have a DVD box set out of that one - I remember the doll house one and the scariest was the dead mans float where the spirit comes out of the pool... Oh yeah, I remember that creepy show! I loved watching that during Snick on Saturday nights, do you remember AGH! Real Monsters! and Kablam! were both animated and AWESOME....
Instead of RL Stine, I read Christopher Pike.... HA this is too funny....

Yes of course I remember Ickis Krum and Oblina! (sp?) It was so cute how they could never scare anyone lol. I think I vaguely remember Kablam! Was that the one that had action league now? All can remember from that is the body builder (The Flesh? I think) and Thundergirl.
And of course there were the other Nicktoons-- Rug Rats, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, and my personal favorite, Doug. **Chickapata Chicka Chicka Patata** If you understand that reference, then we really should be best friends haha.

Slightly off topic but I'm posting it anyway...
I downloaded this game called The 80s game the other day. And just so you know, I did really well on the song category, so-so on the TV category and horribly at the movie category (I didn't even bother with sports).
What I found really interesting, though, is that I was pretty spot on with the dates of songs, but WAY off on tv shows. Things that I thought I watched in grade school was actually on the air my junior and senior year in high school. I'm not sure what that means, but I DO know that I'm trying to guess everyone's age by what you all watched and I'm pretty sure you're all a bunch of 14-year-olds. Except pek and minda... you guys are 18 or so. How'd I do?

I'm 22. Salute your shorts ran from 1991-1992 and had reruns until 1998. Thats my first grade through 8th grade years. Hey Dude ran from 89-91... I was in first grade in 1991. Pete and Pete was 93-96-- 3rd to 6th grades.
Pek mentioned My Two Dads... that aired when I was in kindergarten.
Minda mentioned Blossom, which aired 91-95-- my 1st through 5th grade years.
So I would say that they aren't all that much older than me.

I used to love watching The Love Boat. It's how I know who Milton Berle and Martha Rae are (were). My sister and I made a love boat for our Barbie dolls out of a book shelf. The bottom shelf was the engine room, next shelf was a stateroom, next shelf was the bar/restaurant and the top was the pool deck. We put Barbie furniture on all the floors and the Barbie infltable pool up top and our Barbies got to cruise to Acapulco all the time. Of course, they all had to date our one, scraggly G.I. Joe Doll but they didn't seem to mind!

Does anyone remember the old teen soaps? There was one on Nick called Fifteen (I think I've discussed it on another thread somewhere) and it ROCKED (it had Daisy Adair from Dead Like Me when she was a little bopper and Ryan Reynolds back in the day!) and then there was Swan's Crossing, featuring a very young, pre-cigaretted, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Both of these shows were fantastic, and as I was pre-pubescent at the time, they seemed the pinnacle of coolness.

Well, Melody did okay for herself--she's married to Ben Stiller!
I never got the appeal of the Brad character. She was supposed to be the sexy one, but she just seemed manly to me. LOL @ AJR for saying she looked like Xena--so true! I always thought Melody was hotter, and I always thought she should hook up with Ted. I think Ted has been on a lot of shows as a recurring character. I remember him being on 90210 as a character Kelly had the hots for, he was a volleyball player, then he "came out" and she realized it wasn't because she was losing her irresistability that he hadn't slept with her. My head is filled with just this kind of useless trivia.

Does anyone remember a cartoon that might have been called "Petey the Puppy?" It was about a group of dogs who go around solving crimes or something. I liked it but I don't remember much about it. The thing that always got to me was, when they were following a bad guy, one of them would always say, "All right, guys, come on. And be very quiet!" And then they would all run off after the bad guy and bark the whole time they were running. Why didn't those bad guys ever hear them coming?! :p
I also loved a cartoon show called "Fred Flintstone and Friends." It was a compilation of several different cartoons-they would show one cartoon, maybe the Flintstones, and then another cartoon, maybe Yogi Bear or something. In this version of the Flintstones, Pebbles and Bam-Bam were teenagers and they were dating and they had a band. They used to sing really cute songs, I seem to remember one being about "a hop, skip and a juh-ump, that's the way my love goes, the way my love goes," or something like that. Some of the cartoons included Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, toons like that. I loved it. Anyone? Anyone?

OMG Square One! I totally forgot about that one! Of course I had to search it on You Tube and find the ONE song that I remember!
Nine Nine Nine

This is the song that I remember SO well, although I actually have a really strong memory of a lot of the show. I, like Pek, was a math nerd. Calculus was one of my favorite classes in high school, and I thank much of my math obsession to Square One. Please to enjoy, "Tesselations":

I used to love MTV. My grandmother had cable so I always got to watch MTV on weekends. My brother is four years older than I am and he was into music before I was, but his constant watching of MTV and listening to American Top 40 totally got me hooked, too. Videos seemed so strange and new to me-I was about 10 when MTV was launched, and I had so many favorites. I especially loved these:
"Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring
"She's a Beauty" by The Tubes
"Down Under" by Men at Work
"Come Dancing" by The Kinks
"Don't Cry" by Asia
"Legs" by ZZ Top, or is it ZZ Topp?
Almost anything by Duran Duran
The videos actually told a story. I thought MTV was SO cool. I am very behind the times, but I recently discovered you can Google most any video and find it on You Tube. I have been watching videos like crazy for a few weeks now-while I'm watching one I'll think of another and I can't watch them fast enough. It's so nostalgic and best of all it's like being back at my grandmother's. That's the best part!

And I thought he use to go
"And a oney, and a twoey..."
(yes, or am I thinking of something else?)

I used to watch it with my grandpa and I remember him saying "and a one-uh and a two-uh" in his little German accent.

I just watched The Sound of Music on the Family Channel. I haven't seen it in over ten years even though I have the movie.
It makes me frickin' bawl- my husband thinks I'm retarded.

I just came across a cd of theme songs from cartoons. I remember watching these when I was growing up and I still hum them sometimes. Know what they are?
TV Show 1 (Okay, I don't actually hum this song, but the first two words make me laugh.) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B00005MLXE001015/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_015/104-1753834-4315142)
TV Show 2 (I sing this ALL the TIME!) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B00005MLXE001023/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_023/104-1753834-4315142)
TV Show 3 (Oh, I miss being a kid!) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B00005MLXE001020/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_020/104-1753834-4315142)

I watched part of it too - and I turned it on just as the baroness was saying this:
"I thought a trip around the world would be lovely. Yet I said, 'Oh Elsa, there must be someplace better to go.'"
I don't remember that from the 147 other times I've watched the movie - cracked me up. :D

I've never seen The Sound of Music... seems like one of those movies that should go on the list, though. I think I missed the classic film memo, because there is an ever growing list of movies I've never seen that makes people gasp and say "I can't believe you've never seen... !!" Apparently I'm sheltered.

Me too! I took my Mom to see it (the play) on Broadway for her 50th birthday and we both bawled through Climb Every Mountain and Edelweiss. I love that movie!

We used to watch this at my great aunt's house every Thanksgiving. Whenever I see it on now I always think of how my Grandmother hated that we had to be quiet for the 2 hours it was on. I think it was a ploy of my great aunt's . . lol.

I've never seen Casablanca. Or Top Gun. Being from the generation I am, I get a lot of flack for that. Now that Tom Cruise is bat shit crazy, I am pretty sure it will never happen.

I've never seen Top Gun, either. While I've never been head over heels in love with Tom like so many have been, I've at least considered him a talented actor. Now he's just crazy and I don't even like him as a person. I know you can never know what REALLY goes on behind closed doors, but there is always a little truth to every rumor.... AND Katie Holmes looks horrible these days-- she looks so old. He's aged her. I hate him... she took my Joey Potter away. :( She belongs with Pacey.

I saw Casablanca just once, and didn't like it. I've never seen Top Gun. Never seen The Matrix or any Star Wars movie besides the original first one and Attack of the Clones, never seen any Friday the 13th's, never seen all of Dirty Dancing from start to finish in one sitting (ditto Pretty Woman). There's a lot of really popular movies I've never seen. I don't know why. I'm picky.

I don't watch a lot of popular movies either, maybe because people hype them so much that I know there's no way they will live up to the hype. I've never seen any Jurassic Parks, never seen most of the Star Wars, never seen any James Bonds, never seen so many "must-see's".

I just remembered a show, not THAT old school, but it isn't on anymore. Did you guys ever watch "Undressed" on MTV? It was a totally random late-night soap opera sort of thing? The acting was atrocious, the storylines were ridiculous, they would follow a couple of characters for about 4 days and then that was that, moved on to the next thing. It SUCKED and I LOVED it!
