I gave it a full 45 minutes tonight. That's pretty impressive for me since I am not that big on the audition shows. I am still having Temptress flashbacks. Make it stop!

RachWho?
01-16-2008, 03:43 AM
Poor Temptress. Loved how Simon wouldn't hug her...

I love the auditions, that's probably the part I'll watch most consistently. By the way, no one played instruments...what's up with that?

LonnaSaur
01-16-2008, 06:20 AM
Poor Temptress, indeed. Did anyone else find it distracting or odd how her shirt/poncho thing had the same colors as her face and hair? Sometimes it was hard to tell where Temptress stopped and her clothes began. I wish she could have worn something that was more flattering to her figure and skintone. She seems like a really nice person.

Rach, I had heard contestants would be allowed to play instruments in the auditions so I was expecting that, too, and there weren't any. Maybe next time there will be some instrument-playing.

I couldn't figure out if Paula's "stalker" was for real, or just trying to get attention. He certainly was creepy and if I were Paula I don't think I'd be giggling and playing along, I would be running out of the room! He had crazy eyes.

The immigrant guy with the big gap in his teeth seemed nice, too. My heart belongs to anyone who loves American music, especially, "Mr. The Bee Gees." He was too cute and what really blew me away was that his singing wasn't really all that bad. He had exactly the right tone in his voice. I loved him!

Did anyone else think the first guy up, who had lost all the weight recently, would be terrible? I couldn't believe it when he wasn't. Good for him!

The Grace Slick wannabe was scary. I don't think she's going to be a vet-she's going to be in jail some day.

I LOVE the editors for showing Princess Leia's rant about how not fair it is that AI only wants people who all look the same, and playing footage of all the people going to Hollywood at the same time, showing that every single one of them looks totally different. You'd think, listening to her complain, that they werre all 6' tall blondes with boob jobs or something. Delusional!!

I think the instruments will be played in Hollywood and beyond that, they haven't made a decision.

I hate the audition shows. I hate that every year they show us the same crazy, untalented, types of people that will never make it through. I don't even find it amusing anymore - it just irritates me.

I was also annoyed that they put on someone like Temptress, who was obviously not going through to Hollywood, just so they could exploit her plight. Boooooo producers.

I'm done with the auditions. I may make it back for the Hollywood rounds. It sucks, because I like finding someone to route for early on - it makes the later rounds more fun for me. Oh well. I'll live.

TinkerbellAPixie
01-16-2008, 08:37 AM
Amen to everything Peg just said. I hate that they send out producers and cameras to show someone's back story only to find out they can't sing a bit. I hate that they exploit them and get their hopes up only to mock them.

Actually - I've never been a big idol fan, even when it gets to the normal shows I can't stand all the padding they do to drag everything out only to have them take a commercial break before anything can happen. It's the same reason why I dislike Deal or No Deal and other game shows. I hate that whole tease only to make you wait til the very last 2 minutes for a payoff.

However, I'm grumpy today - so pretty much disregard everything I say...

It makes our jobs easier.

Seriously, do you think they record all auditions? I'd think that would be a pain in the ass to edit. Although I guess they have plenty of time to do so. Also, I didn't see the end last night, but did they make all the really bad singers all sing one song at the end like they did last year? Talk about beating a dead horse...

Cherie

Why why why would you keep chewed off finger nails in a bag and then show them on TV? Don't you wonder what else he keeps in storage bags????

I believe that is one of the signs that someone might be a serial killer.

So I tried this again last night. It helped that there was so much eye candy:

1. Cute model husband of non-talented plain faced blonde girl
2. Country boy with frightening chastity necklace and scary relationship with his dad.
3. Farmer Ted with the sexy tractor

However, there were a few times when they didn't put thru people that I thought sounded good - and then they went and took a few people who didn't sound good at all just because they were wacky (yes, i'm talking to you one-eyed girl).

This will sound completely bizarre, but the "I Am Your Brother" guy really reminded me of one of my ex-boyfriends. There, I said it. How strange is it that I have an ex-boyfriend that can even slightly be compared to that guy??

Yes, Paula is BACK! "Delayed plane," yeah right. More like "hangover." What was she doing when she leaned over the table with her face over Simon's paperwork and her butt in Randy's face? Simon asked her what she was doing and I would LOVE to have heard her answer.

That guy who is supposed to tell his local Fox affiliate to let him report on AI--I loved him! He seemed like such a nice guy and I was really happy for him. I hope they let him report and I hope we see him during the finale. He was too cute and really sincere about loving the show-none of that kissing up fakeness that some people have. Refreshing.

Remember that kid in the shiny coat who said he thought maybe he could be the next American Idol, and he sang Shout? They played him up to look like he was going to be really bad, and he just seemed really naive about the whole thing, and really sincere. It seemed like the judges were kind of making fun of him (the hiccup debacle occurred during his audition I think) and I really wish he could have stuck it to them by being good. He definitely wasn't that bad either.

Yeah. I think he would have stood a better chance had he not tried to dance like James Brown while he was singing. That totally threw me off. I can't say he was the best but he certainly wasn't the worse. I will say that Nebraska was pretty good to Idol. They got quite a few that went through.

I don't think you have to be a metal fan, Cherie. I watch AI for entertainment, but you couldn't pay me to listen to any of the winners' or contestants' music...any of them. Standard fare music on the radio just sucks 99% of the time, in my opinion. And I am not a metal fan, nor do I listen to Gregorian monk chants ;)

I am an indie rock, underground, experimental music fan. Haven't heard that yet on AI.

I like indie punk alternative emo stuff (sorry, I can't really get any more descriptive than that). But I hate Daughtry because I think he toes the line of Nickelback-type bands and country. One of my former coworkers used to listen to the cd a lot and I hated it. And at first I couldn't tell what it was, but some of it sounded countryish. Also, I LOATHE country.

The reason I thought you might be into metal is because my Hubby is and he doesn't think anything less than Mettalica or Godsmack should be considered rock. I stand corrected.

Wow, this brought back memories. When I was in college I worked at the Harvard Coop (erative Society) which was the bookstore and also a department store with clothes, housewares, music, etc. One of the years, somewhere between 1992 and 1995 I guess, there was this CD of Gregorian chants called, I think, "Chant" and it was SO popular. Everyone was coming in to buy it. I don't know why that was so popular. That CD, and the book "In the Kitchen with Rosie" which was Oprah's lapdog du jour's cookbook. At some point, everyone was buying the "Adventures of Priscilla" soundtrack. Ah, memories.

I have been waiting and waiting for Hollywood Week, but last night's episode left me feeling disappointed. It looks like they have eliminated the group auditions-where contestants divide themselves up into groups of three or four, learn a song, and perform it. I always find that so enjoyable because it is such a huge opportunity for drama. One person wants to party in the hot tub instead of practice, someone else goes to bed too early, another person blames their own poor performance on the rest of the group members, while someone else can't find a group at all. It is AWESOME and I was so sad I didn't get to see that.

I don't think I am into American Idol this year. I tried to watch the boys sing last night but mostly I just read magazines the whole time the show was on. Those first few weeks when you don't even know...
seems like something is happening but not sure what...
then when you DO KNOW.. holy shit it sucks....
makes you sick even though you know at the end you
are going to hold a wonderful bundle of joy just waiting
to bloom all over the earth...
and into those final months when you are pulling for the little rascal to be big and strong and smart and perfect..........
then finals night......
when everything is shiny and new.....
and there is the new baby..........
new American Idol...........

We are just in the ealry stages of
""I feel like I wanna vomit"".......
fell free to vomit but don't give up on the baby yet.

Your right menomor.. I said else where it is really down to bad song choice and is that really fair?
I would have all 12 sing the same song with their own flavor added in.
Then and only then could we have a fair chance at picking the best singers.
It is not different than BB. If you watch the feeds or read the feedcaps you know what CBS is showing is not the story in the house.

I will tell you this...
Moon River boy needs to go for the song choice alone.
Even Denver and the Mile High Orchastra didn't play with that loser of a song.

In my earlier post I forgot to say I was disappointed the judges didn't call Colton Berry on totally not "getting" his song. When you sing "Suspicious Minds" you don't bop around happily and smile at the camera, dude. It's kind of a song about a relationship going wrong, not hearts and flowers. Duh. I don't care if you've studied theater or not, that has nothing to do with totally missing the concept of the song you have selected. Hate.

I will state here that did not want to like the David boy who had a partially paralyzed vocal cord... that sounded like he pulled a nut or something but I liked him last night, i really did.

Now Danny... the freakoid Sungina wannabe...
HATE HATE HATE HATE and more hate.
could he just be voted off tonight so I know america isn't going to fuck with me again this year?

I watched the girls last night. If this is the most talented top 24 yet, I haven't seen it. Trust me, I can't carry a tune in a bucket but I am great to passing judgement!
I thought Kristi Lee Cook thinks she's the shit! I don't.
For some reason I really don't care for the rocker nurse. I'm sure she will make the top 12 though.
I loved the Amanda Whitiker! She nailed it.
Brooke was good. I can't wait to hear more.
Ramiele was out of this worled as well as Asia'h and Syesha.
I don't think Carly was as good as the hype that is surrounding her. The judges thought it was great but I wasn't impressed.
I can't wait to see who gets booted tonight!
My votes are Moon river guy and Jared or was it Justin (can't remember) and rocker nurse and where the boys are girl (cant' remember her name either.

I only saw the second half of the episode. We taped it and watchehd ANTM so we have to watch the first half some other time, but I may not even bother. I saw the play-back of all the girls singing at the end and it was mostly just "meh" for me. I have to say, though, that Kady Malloy is a piece of work. She really needs to learn how to act when the judges are critiquing her. She looked like such an entitled bitch and I don't think all the voters out there are going to appreciate her 'tude. Every time her face was on screen, with that stupid pout, I wanted to slap her. And Syesha Mercado bugs the crap out of me. Waaaay too perky, or something. Ugh.

I forgot about her! She was so stuck up! I agree 100 million percent (to qoute Randy)! I think she was so totally surprised that they would have anything bad to say about HER! and then she wouldn't even stay on the stage while Ryan introduced the next singer, rude!

Why did Joanna say that Sunday wasn't her best performance? Isn't Idol supossed to be live? If it's live, wouldn't Wednesday have been show time for her, not Sunday. Is this show really live?

It has been driving me absofreakinglutely nuts that I couldn't place David Archuletta but I felt like I knew that kid from somewhere. I just realized that he won Star Search when he was, like, 11. I would think that would disqualify him from AI, no? Weird.

Hey h4b! As long as you're not currently signed to a record contract you're eligible for AI. Carly Smithson released a record a couple years ago and Taylor Hicks had made a record before appearing on his season of AI.

Interesting Jason... thx. I read about Carly in the recap though, so one would think I could have figured that out on my own. Haha.

So who do we think is going home of the boys? I think it's definitely blond-streak boy and possibly A Cappella dude. I cant be bothered to look up names so hopefully you'll know to whom I am referring.

Also, I think I might be a little in lust with Aussie rocker dude. He is sexy sexy sexy, and that accent doesnt hurt one little bit :D

I think Jason Yeager (Mr. Bland with the streak in his hair) and Danny Noriega are going home. Noreiga certainly isn't the worst singer left among the guys, but he's way too flamboyant to develop a broad enough fan base.

Michael Johns is totally overrated. I thought he absolutely sucked last night. But he's a good looking guy, as is acapella dude. Both should be able to get by on their looks for a few more weeks.

I agree that the J Yeager should go! Thought that from the first week. Did you see him last night as the judges were critiqueing him? He looked totally pissed! I think that the wannabe rocker guy is out too. He wasn 't that great, either.
Although I thought that Noriega should go, he'll probably be in the top 12.

If I ever become world dictator the first thing I am going to do is decree that there will be no more Queen on American Idol. It is a travesty and we can't keep making Freddy Mercury roll around in his grave like that.

No more Queen? I agree, but howzabout NO MORE FUGGIN BEEGEES. WTF? Seriously. These kids are actually choosing the BEEGEES? Huh? I want to be kicked in junk everytime I hear that shit. My Mom listened to that crap when I was young and clearly I'm still scarred. OVerall I think the women were fairly weak last night.

I'm in-no more lame covers of the Bee Gees! And while we're at it, how about no more Stevie Wonder, just because nobody can sing like Stevie and they almost always butcher his songs. Ouch.

Amanda not getting the boot was a shock. Alexandrea was better IMHO and not such a one trick pony that Amanda is. And how did Luke not get the boot?

I think the votes he gets are based on his looks.
