Thought it might be handy to have a place to learn about changes to our favorite website.

And to kick it off....
What happened to the comment numbers? I noticed you changed the comments on the recap pages, but can we get the comment numbers back? I sorta rely on those to know where I left off and if there is anything new to read.

OH NO! This is terrible news about not having any comment numbers. Please bring them back. They help just like Tink said, plus the numbers are a tremendous help when referring to someone else's comment, too.

Hmmm...are you talking about on the main page? Because on the blog page, the comment numbers are still there.

Well I went to a few different recap pages, The Hills, The Aaron Spelling Memorial - and they did not have post numbers for the comments.
Is it just me?

Tink, it's not just you. Below is a snapshot cut and paste from the Chenbot Repair clipgasm. Notice that there aren't any comment #'s next to the posts AND there isn't a count near the "Posted by B-Side line" which I thought usually mentioned the total number of comments thus far.

Nice ending...she obviously got the memo.

BTW, can I get a "The Hills" recap? I mean really, that recap should be the #1 priority of this website. So as to not come across as a selfish asshole, perhaps I should say something nice. Keep up the great work!
Posted by: Sir Jiggabins | June 23, 2006 05:28 PM
YOU think YOU want a recap of The Hills are Stupid?
What about me? I saw Rescue me where my freakin hero raped his ex wife!?! I WANNA RECAP!
but seriously
I will wait as long as it takes. At least till Monday anyway.

I don't see the numbers, either, but they did add a "last post by" under each story on the main blog page. I guess that helps.

I usually don't like changes but I always get used to it in the end. However, I really hate the way the recaps now appears in sections. 11 pages for the Treasure Hunter recap. It used to be the norm back in the days where people all had 56k connection but now ??? Clicking for each section take you out from the rhythm of the recap. Anybody feel the same way ?

I do. That's one of the reasons I stopped reading TWoP. :(
(Edit: Because I like to sit back in my comfy chair and just use the down arrow on my wireless keyboard instead of having to lean forward to use the mouse. I'm lazy that way.)

Dude, you've gotta get rid of that page garbage on the recaps. My ADD won't allow me to even begin if there's a notion that I'm gonna be flipping multiple pages. See, without the pages I can trick myself into reading the whole thing, if I like the beginning. I don't want to come here and work, 'num sayin'?
J-Unit
06-25-2006, 08:52 PM
I will work on posting an "all pages" link for those of you who don't like it split up. Until then, append a ?page=all to the very end of the url and you will get the entire recap at once.
Note, I changed the code you should use...

Me not likey the new changes. I understand the need for ads since blogging about TV is NOT a THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS INDUSTRY but yuck to the split screen.
And I am also one of those who miss the one page recaps.
But you guys are still the best and funniest so I'll get over it and keep on coming ten times a day to check for new material !:p
Thanx for being flexible about things tho. We all appreciate :)

How about some positive thoughts about the changes? I like the byline under the title. For some reason, I need to know who I'm reading before I start and I used to have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to find out (which sucks because my scroll button broke about six months ago). Plus, all you tvgasm writers are awesome so why shouldn't you all get your names all big and bold and black right there under the title?

How about some positive thoughts about the changes?
Aww, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so negative. I really do appreciate all they do for us. Of all the sites I visit (and ok, none are anywhere near as often as this one) there isn't a site on the web that is more considerate of it's visitors than TVGasm and I really DO appreciate it. :o

jampony
06-26-2006, 04:29 PM
Oh crap! I didn't mean for that to come off as preachy. It was more like "here are some thoughts". It's because I'm on this weird praise kick. Instead of calling or emailing companies that piss me off, I've contacted a couple that have made me happy. Like the convenience store I go to for coffee a few times a week... the people there actually look me in the eyes when they say "thank you" (no, seriously! right in the eyes!) and ask where I've been if I haven't come in in a few days. Anyway, sorry if it sounded like I was chastising anyone. I was right in there, too, with my own complaints.

just because i care (not to mention i'm damn lazy), i'll try to keep all my recaps to one page or less from now on. considering how shitty lcs has been lately, it shouldn't be all that hard.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I guess this is as good a place as any. Can someone explain the TVgasm calendar to me? First I thought it was private so I added a bunch of personal stuff, then I thought it was public so I took it all off and added some premiere dates of shows I've seen mentioned in the forums, but when I log off, all I see are birthdays. So it looks like only registered users have access to info added by other users? Just checking.

Hey, what ever happened to the Snark-o-Tron?
I was going to ask what Snark-o-Tron was and then add, "What happened to Hottie or Nottie"? but then I searched for hotties and found the snark thing (http://www.tvgasm.com/snark.php)! I'd never seen it before!!! It's great! If a spider monkey and Adam Brody had a lovechild, it would be jampony. Ha! I'm very excited about this, can you tell? I would love to see an episode of some show where TinkerbellAPixie says ''Meet my new friend - a spider monkey.'' and then kicks Lindsay Lohan's right boob. ROTFL! But what's with the spider monkey fetish? I gotta go play with this some more.

I have a general question about the forums and I didn't want to bug the mods with it so I thought I'd ask all you 'gasmers out there. Does anyone know if a person could tell that I added him/her to my ignore list? I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but at the same time there are a couple user's posts I just don't want to read.

I always enjoy reading posts from everyone who has responded to my "ignore" question so far. (By "so far" I mean those of you who have posted between my two posts, not "I've enjoyed hearing from you so far! But who knows what'll happen tomorrow". Oh, never mind.) But this is the only time I can respond regarding this because what if the people who I want to ignore post something and I don't respond to them? I genuinely like everyone who posts in these forums and I don't want to create ill will between me and anyone else.

I have everyone on ignore and just read my own clever witticisms over and over. Not only that, I've elevated ignoring people to an art form AND use it to make a living at the same time. Phone sex be damned! Pathetic men will pay $4.00 a minute to have me put my phone on the counter and wash dishes, talk to my friends, read TVgasm, etc. I made over $1500 this past week being rude to people.:)

Oops almost forgot my real purpose for logging on to this thread. I have a minor complaint (I know it seems like I am always complaining about something) let's not call it a complaint - let's call it a concern (does that make it better?)
When I go to a recap, I do the following:
1. Click on the All Pages button (love that button thanks for giving it to us J-Unit). After I finish reading the pages I have to ..
2. Click on Comment to read the comments. Then I can type in my new comment and it takes me back to the page without the comments and I have to..
3. Click on Comment again to see if my comment uploaded
Now - in the old version - it was all there on one page - this new and improved way makes it a little more clicky to get to where you want to be. Did that make sense? And am I the only one bothered (tho, ever so slightly) by this?
doriangz
07-11-2006, 10:12 AM
It is more clicky but I think it is on purpose (improves the site's numbers if you see what I mean)
It bothered me at first too but am used to it now <shrug>

Am I the only one who finds it annoying to get to the end of a thread and if I want to get back to the menu, I have to either scroll back to the top or press Back on my browser until I get there? The only options at the bottom are previous or next thread, but I want to choose which threads I read. A small annoyance, but an annoyance none the less. :)

No (i would leave it at that but the pop up said it was too short)

No, you're not the only one. A breadcrumbs-style menu at the bottom of the page would be convenient.

Or you can just click the "View First Unread" message :)
The caveat with that isif, say, your frist unread is on page 2 but you're on page 3 - it'll take you to the first mesasge in page three.
Also, if you're on the main page, if you click on the thread title under the heading, it'll take you to the first unread post in that thread. :)

I know. I hate when a thread I started dies a slow and painful death. I had started one a couple of months ago that was funny for a while but then my coworker posted on it (it was a personal "attack" on me -- fair play since I had posted something mean about her) but her post made no sense and the thread died. You just gotta let it go, though. It'll disappear after a while.

That wasn't it for me. In my case, I loved how she stood up to all the negativity after last season instead of avoiding it. She took it as well as she could give it, and that's what turned things around for me.
With Janelle, flipping on her was more her fans' fault than hers, but it does make every little annoying thing she does stand out more than ever. The way some people discussed her, you'd be wondering why she hasn't been canonized yet. "She's beautiful inside and out, and her sparkling personality, intelligence, charm and humour are all fantastic!" Combine over the top nonsense like that with all the "janellousy" crap, it was just too much. She just seemed to buy into it, and unlike Ivette's message board, Janelle's has a rule that you can't say anything negative about her. Blah.

One cool thing about the calendar is that the day's events show up at the bottom of the page under "What's Going On". Now, if only that little box appeared on every page, wouldn't that be fun? Then we could always see who's online!
I just figured out how to use the "View Last Unread" button (I finally found it!) and I am so jazzed about that!! :D Best new feature!! (hopefully it hasn't been there from the beginning and I'm just finding it now...)
I think it's "View First Unread" (it seems to go away after you've read all the posts so it's not up right now for me to verify what it's called) and I'm pretty sure it's been there all along. I couldn't find it, either, until CrazyTrain pointed it out. The only thing is that you've got to go into the post to use it. I just use the "Go to Last Post" on the main forums page and then backtrack a few to see where I left off.

See, I can't do that. Especially if I miss a day or two. Then I'm going back and back and I can't remember if I've already read something or if it is new. I realize this may be just MY problem, but I seem to be having it a lot lately!!:crying: ;)

Has anybody tried using the reminder option in the tvgasm calendar? I set one up to remind me about Survivor 8 hours before the event. Oddly, I received six emails today with a countdown in each one. The first one said Survivor... in 8 hours! The second one said the same thing. Then 7 hours, 6 hours, etc. Crazy!

I can't find any threads related to House? Also, when I go to "Other Shows" there's only about six threads there. What's going on? Howzabout some more moderatin' and a little less jibba-jabba? thx

You all suck. Treasure Hunters was way underrated, and the critics couldn't make up their minds. Was it too much like TAR or not enough? The answer is it doesn't matter, it was its own damned show and it ROCKED! It didn't rock as much as a Canadian, but really, what does?

Scoty, my dear, someone has rearranged the front page a little bit. The shows are now split into 2 categories scripted/unscripted. You can find House toward the bottom of the page, under Scripted Television/Other Shows. And the Sports thread (which you may also be trying to find) is at the very bottom of the page under Other Television.
And we don't jibba-jabba, we have informed, serious discussions regarding the merits of television programs. :tonguewag:
And thanks to the moderator who moved the Top Chef thread. The disturbance in the 'gasm force has been removed.

I have figured out why the content drops below. It usually happens when there is a word that is soo long it overflows one of the columns on the left. When this happens, the best thing to do is send me an e-mail. That being said, it is an IE thing and if you used FireFox, you would be oblivious to these issues just like me.

karo, do u mean the red box next to the name of a thread? if you let your mouse hover it, you'll see that it reads 'attachment', to indicate that thread contains pictures. As for the purple box that means 'sticky', have no idea what's going on there

No big trick. If you want to view an article all on one page, put ?page=all at the end of the address. It makes it easier for me to read if it's all together. I whined about it before when they changed it the first time.

Did anyone else notice they got rid of the print view for the recaps? You can still do
?page=all at the end of the addy, so it's not a huge deal. But for those that don't know that, clicking for every page can get annoying (or I'm super lazy...either way).

Yea, i just noticed that when I was reading the RR/RW Challenge recap just now. Grrrr. Ddn't know abt the ?page-all, so thanks. Funny, I mentioned in another thread just 2 days ago how you can hit the print icon to get the All page view & sure enuf, now it's not even there anymore. Guess they really want us to see every page so that all ads are visible? gotta pay the bills i guess.

Yeah, I understand the reasoning, but I hate clicking through pages. I also will sometimes read the recaps on a handheld device and it's a pain to load every page. I hope I don't get in trouble for posting that shortcut...though someone else had posted it before, which is how I knew about it.
wow, not even a print option.
thats utterly stupid plain and simple. you know how many times i need to print it out so i could read it on the subway or plane or at a restaurant?

i noticed some of the site changes and for the most part they are improvements, but one thing that i saw as a great option was the ability to, with the click of 1 button, convert an entire post to 1 page to print...
w/o this option it makes reading the blogs fundamentally difficult (at work)..

I liked and used the print option. It was not only great for reading recaps while at work but for actually printing them out in order to read recaps other than at my computer. But that greatly reduces the number of page hits and that seems to be the driving force for the new powers that be at TVgasm. Something tells me, we just have to deal with it. I know change is good but I miss the old 'gasm.
