Just caught the last half of it... it's so bad it's good. Two thumbs up from jam!

Holy shit I forgot to watch this. You know what I thought when I saw the commercials right? "Pffffpt. I'd so win the World Series of Pop Culture." Same thing I said about that dastard Ken Jennings. But I'd probably end up being that lady who doesn't even make it to Final Jeopardy because I can't figure out how to use the buzzer, except when I have the wrong answer.;)

My favorite part is when the winner for the night was revealed during the last commercial break in a promo for tomorrow.

Thanks, VH1. Thanks.

Okay, the host's voice on this show is so freaking awesome I'm entranced. I could listen to him all day.

I could do well on this show, but I don't know movies and a surprising amount of the stuff they're asking I'm too young to remember. And I'm not that young.

susanarosa-I don't know what it is, but I love that guy too. He looks like the grown-up version of the dentist elf from "Rudolph," but then he opens his mouth & he's got that dry wit I love so much. (I'd take him over Joe from Fear Factor any day) But I don't understand why they need to have that annoying chick do post-match interviews, well, yeah, I do know, it's the T&A factor, but still, she doesn't fit in.

BTW, I sucked on more than a couple of questions-I've seen "Jaws" about 236 times & I still couldn't think of the name of the boat. Plus, Kid's Shows & Musical Youth were not my areas.

susanarosa

Oh my god, you are so right about him looking like the dentist elf! That's so funny.

I did super bad tonight. I think the categories are getting harder. Or else they're just covering stuff I seriously have no clue about. I didn't do too bad in kids shows (watched lots of Nickelodeon in my formitive years) but the Haylie Duff/Paris Hilton song question... I mean, who in the world knows that?

tvaholic
07-17-2006, 09:16 AM
I know, that Paris/Haylie question stumped me too. What a rip on Haylie too-they called her "Hilary Duff's sister Haylie" & not just "Haylie Duff." In the words of Kelso, "Burrrnnn!"

I agree, I think the questions are getting harder as they move on to quarter/semi finals.

Why does Cheetera have to be so annoying? It's 12 minutes into the episode and I seriously hope they loose because I just don't want to see them ever again.

I watched this for the first time last night, and I couldn't agree more. They were obnoxious. LOVE the host - dry delivery with a twinkle in his eye. I hope they find him a reality show or something to do after this. I wish I had seen it sooner when I might have had a shot at answering more than 3 questions correctly, but it was interesting nonetheless - and I like that they don't try to build fake suspense with fancy flashy lights and music like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire or something like that.

Seriously I wanted to kick the shortest girl (and the loudest) of Cheetara in the head multiple times. Velvet Rope Revolution is not my favorite team (I Heart Jake Ryan was my fave), but at least they shut them up.

My favorite categories are when Pat Kiernan has to recite the old school rap lyrics with that dry voice of his. Gold.

I think I'm rooting for Almost Perfect Strangers to win.

I think I answered about 25% of the questions last night correctly (and that's being generous). I swear, they're getting harder and harder. Anyone else still kicking ass playing at home?

Honestly, Jam - I was doing pretty well. I couldn't believe that no one knew the answers to the SNL category. But "Turd Ferguson"..... come ON, everyone knows that's Burt Reynolds. :p

And the tie breaker rounds are so awesome. I think it's because my boyfriend and take turns answering back and forth on the couch and can usually come up with all the answers while we pause the Tivo.

God knows, there aren't many of us.

So can you believe that American Idol auditions are being held at the Target Center??? I'm going... I already informed the 'Gasm that I would providing photos and a narrative on the experience they could perhaps post on the site. :p

I wouldn't in a gazillion years go to those AI auditions. It will be a fricking zoo downtown, and they always look like a nightmare to me (lines a mile long). I will, however, look forward to your pictures. And hopefully some more people from Mpls will fess up and we could have a little happy hour party here in Mpls.

Howzabout I hold her down while you kick her? Did I hear during an intro that the ladies of Cheetara are in a comedy troupe? I'd rather eat a lead salad than check out their idea of comedy. For me, it's a toss-up for who wins the most annoying contestant award - Shorty Cheetara or Triple Chin from 3 the Hard Way. I like VelRoRevo and was bummed to see them get bumped by Boeghy Bunch. I think I'll root for APS although it would be kinda cool to see the engaged couple from the BB win the thing too...

Last night the Boeghy Bunch (the engaged couple + one other guy) won for sure. Then we got the cliff hanger between El Chupacabra and Almost Perfect Strangers?? I hope APS wins.

I hated the asian guy from Velvet Rope Revolution - again with the smugness (first Keith from Project Runway, now this guy)!

What is going on with men today? They're getting as annoying as chicks!

Yeah I noticed that too, and then when he didn't know the answer, he'd make up something completely lame to say. Like when they asked about the mountain in Better Off Dead, he goes: "uhhhhh....Killer Mountain?" WHAT? Just say YOU DON'T KNOW, dumbass.

Aw, cut the contestants some slack, you guys. Imagine the pressure they're under. It's the World Series of Pop Culture, for goodness sake! It's not the Amboy, Indiana Series of Pop Culture, or the Greater Metropolitan Washington Area Series of Pop Culture or even the North American Series of Pop Culture. It's the frickin' World Series of Pop Culture! They're representing Earth, dudes! It doesn't get any bigger than that!

My boyfriend and I watched the marathon last weekend and we each picked a team to represent - I am proud to say I kicked his fine little ass. Though, I am disturbed by his man-crush on Pat Kiernan.

I'm rooting for Almost Perfect Strangers cuz I think Molly is just adorable.

I kicked the proverbial ASS at this show. I couldn't really hate on Cheetara. As an equally loud and obnoxious woman, you'd think I'd hate them. But something about their little troll mascot made me root for them. I'm ashamed that I had the hots for "too cool" Asian L.A. guy. But, Pat Kiernan, for the love of God! I proudly announce that I've experienced several Patgasm's that come in a close second to the much beloved Philgasm.

Don't be ashamed - he was "too cool" but in a way that was actually kinda cool. The Beoghy (?) Bunch is only advancing because of Big Jim - the other two are pretty weak.

My bf and I were discussing Pat's hair - do you think it can get wet? We had this belief that water would do some sort of cosmic damage to his mojo.

Lizardqueen

I think his hair is actually a solid helmet crafted to look hair-like. Like LEGO hair. When it does get wet it dries right off. So very, very, sexy.

Does anyone think Pat looks like a grown up Shawn Farrell (from The 4400)? They're both such cuties!

So, why no love for the winning team? Did you all get bored with the show?

One Question: Why did it have to be so short?!

Don't worry, I'm sure there's another one right around the corner. OR you could play the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture edition for an immediate fix. The finals was more a battle of attrition than anything. I would've wrecked shop on the U2 playoff but then my ass would've been handed to me in the finals...

One Question: Why did it have to be so short?!

I thought they actually drug it out too long. Wouldn't it have been better to just play all the episodes in a one week time period, just to keep everyone hyped about it? I tivo'd each epi, of course, and watched it without commercials the same night, but waiting for the final episode was torture!

El Chupacabra was my second fave team. The Boeghy Bunch blows dogs for quarters. All three of those snobs bugged me. I don't care if they were engaged.

The majority? Doubtful. Sure, Bush got all the bible thumpers on his side when it came to voting, but that doesn't make a majority. Living in Utah it is painful to see the approval rating of the Pres. The mormons are drinking the white house cool aid, that's for certain.

Agreed. My neighbors across the street where I grew up were mormon. 6 kids, church practically every night of the week and whenever I would stay over, they'd always include me in their Bible reading; I was raised Lutheran, but never really had interactive family time with the Man upstairs. It was enlightening, but at the same time, they couldn't play with face cards, drink caffeine or swear. What more does a kid do when they're 12?

ScotyUtah, I'm from Oklahoma originally and was living there during the 2004 election. (Working on an unsuccessful Senate campaign...so having that wacko Coburn in the Senate pains me even more than it pains everyone else...including the Republicans.)

Anyway, Oklahoma voted for Bush by the second highest majority in the country...behind Utah. You must really miss DC sometimes. :)

Nah, I don't miss DC that much. I have to go back every other month for a week so it gives me the chance to catch up with friends. Politically speaking, DC was the center of the universe and I was actually glad to move away from the constant barrage.

That's very true - you have to love talking politics 24/7 to live here. But I missed it when I was in Oklahoma. You get used to be surrounded by people who think and talk politics all the time. Being back there, I was reminded that for most people, it's just something they think about while they watch the news or on election day. Their lives don't revolve around it. (Shocking!)
