Hi! I have noticed on a few other threads that there seem to be a few brave souls here who brazenly admit to ties to Cleveland. I used to think all TVGasm readers, besides me, were either from LA or CT. (Cuz really, when in sunny LA who wouldn't want to be nose-to-monitor reading a blog? And where else in the Lower 48 does the pulse of Pop Culture beat more strongly than in CT?) I am excited to claim how wrong, wrong, wrong I was. Not so excited that I'll eat Wasabi Cubes like some idjit we all know and love, but if my excitement were to be measured in condiment consumption, then I'd definitely eat some hot Stadium Mustard (TM)!

It's time to embrace the city which once proudly proclaimed to be "The Mistake on the Lake" through the hilarities of TVGasm, which brought us all together. Shall we have an amazing Happy Hour at Bob Evans and make non-Ohioan TVGasmers wasabi green with jealousy?

So, what up Clevelanders? Wanna bring some sauce to the Great Eastside-Westside Debate? Do the Indians have a snowball's chance in hell this year? If New York's the Big Apple, does that make Cleveland the Plum? And just how old is Dick Goddard anyway?

Oh my God this is so exciting. Okay, so I've been in the Cleve for one year now. Let me tell you, it has been something. I live in University Circle so I can't officially say I get all the good gangsta shit that goes down on the East Side but I did almost get mugged. I was downtown and this bum was like, "Can I have some money?" And I never have any money so I said, "Sorry. I really don't have any." And all of a sudden it was like we were playing Deal or No Deal. Except this time Howie was packin' cuz the dude was like "I know you're lying. I'm going to follow you because I have a gun." So I was all "No Deal?" because (a) there was a Domino's across the street I was pretty sure I could beat him to and (b) the ass section of his pants was ripped which allowed me to venture that he couldn't hide a gun back there. So I speedwalked that shit into the Domino's which was on the opposite corner where he proceeded to look at me through the effin' glass windows. Then his little lightbulb goes off, which, if you've ever seen a bum's Oprah "Aha" moment, you know where this is going.

I'll press Enter now to give you guys a chance to rest your eyes.

He walks around the corner, looking off into the street like he forgot I was there. Now by this time, the woman behind the counter notices that not only have I come in, I haven't bought anything. "Do you want a pizza?" "No, I'm just going to wait out this homeless guy." "Oh, is he back?" "I'm a first-timer." "Oh, okay." I look outside the window and lo and behold he's there because he was so fucking anxious he couldn't wait forty seconds to see if I would walk out. He immediately realizes his mistake and goes off to find someone else to pester, leaving me forever known as "The One That Got Away."

So anyway, I <3 Cleveland. I'm fond of the East side mostly because I live there. Starting in August I'll be down the road from Little Italy so I'm really excited to get fat. I also plan on exploring Coventry a lot so tell me neat places to go because I'm still new!

ah, bob evans... do they still have the wildfire salad? and they always had the best rolls. i was really excited when they bought mimi's cafe a few years back, thinking they might actually convert a few here in colorado, but alas, no...

i was up in parker (a suburb of denver) this past saturday and saw they had a mark pi (columbus fav) and a caribou coffee. if they ever open a white castle, i'll have no reason to ever return to c-bus again.

go browns!!!! and buckeyes!!!!!

So I moved here from Texas two years ago, and I am waiting for B-Side to make his triumphant return to Cleveland so he can be my friend. As I am in law school and my life is boring, I spend a ridiculous amount of time in class on tvgasm. Which might be why I have shit for grades:)

I LOVE Bob Evans and I went there for lunch on Tuesday with one of my legal intern coworkers. As an Ohio native, she takes Bob Evans for granted and does not understand my love for the Bob.

So are y'all rooting for Angela on Project Runway 3? I was pulling for Chloe last season (her shop was just blocks from my house in Houston) and so far this season I'm on Team Laura (even if her non-boobs are a little weird) because she is a U of Houston alum. GO COOGS.

So, Chris... where, when, how and with whom do you do improv in Cleveland?

I am also an improv idiot. The scene here in Cleveland has been a little lacking, in my opinion, so it is always nice to hear from other like-minded (off-their-rocker?) type folks. :D

Dick Goddard is a venerable institution in Cleveland!

I have not lived here in 10 years, and to come back and see him still doing the weather is akin to having mom tuck me into bed at night. There is just something comforting about Dick. (Ha! Did I really just type that? Totally not thinking about the double entendre.)

No wonder Howie wants to be a meteorolgist. We all know how comforting he thinks Dick is! :-P

Otherwise, no, I don't really watch local news.

I perform with a troupe at my school and our name is IMPROVment. We perform almost every weekend and we do short form comedy (like the stuff you see on Whose Line is it Anyway) and it's a total blast. We draw about 80 people a weekend on average. We also just performed at Loyola University for the Chicago Improv Festival which is a week-long celebration of all things improv. I also do long form (like Second City) with a smaller group.

As far as the Cleveland improv scene, I'm still exploring but I have unfortunately been to Cabaret Dada downtown, which I found to be, well, not funny.

You do improv too? Do tell!

Wait, so you do live in Cleveland now or you don't? Or you used to and didn't and now you do again? Or you once spun a globe and put your finger on Cleveland? I'm so confused.

Also, why does my mind think "venerial" whenever I read "venerable"?

Sorry to confuse you, Grasshopper. Lemme explain.

I grew up in Cleveland, then went away for a while. And now I am back. I am not really excited to be back, but the move was for personal reasons. Funny enough, I'd like to move to Chi-town and do comedy on a more full-on basis.

I am in a start-up Improv troupe called "Torque". It does long form "Henry" style improv and its founder is also the founder of the Cleveland Improv Institute, which is better than Dada.

Because you are a sick, silly boy. ;-)

We sit in our modern design elitist chairs and look down our rich pointy WASPY Yankee noses on the entire rest of the country (Manhattan and San Fran excepted.) It is we who ultimately decide what is cool and what is not. But you all knew that already.

Nutmeggers rule.

That's awesome. I'll come check you guys out for sure. How is the Henry different from the Harold? I've done Harold before. Also, one of our members just took a course at the Cleveland Improv Institute and spoke really highly of its founder. We're going to try to get him to come in and work with us for a day this fall or something. You should AIM me or something and we can talk about improv and the Cleve and all that jazz.

EDIT: Haha, I just got an email from that guy I mentioned about Torque. Looks like you're quite the something!

When do folks come to Ohio? Do y'all wanna meet up at Bob Evans? Anyone?

Copygodd, now that you are done with that grueling schedule of wacky LCS recaps, are you coming here for some Wildfire salad?

Ooops! I meant The Harold.

We just met for our first rehearsal. It was... rough. We'll see what happens tomorrow with our second rehearsal.
