Well, first I have to say how depressing I found it that half the top ten seem to have been born in 1987, since I was already graduating high school by then. Anyway, here's my impressions:
Top tier/totally deserving to stay:
David Cook - I'm going to sound like Randy when I say I didn't like it at first, but strong finish. Did anyone hear whose version of the song he was covering? I rewound it twice and couldn't make it out. I personally didn't like it, but he did sing it really well and showed strong vocals.
Syesha - She kicked ass. Found her annoying in her taped piece and in banter with the judges, but she had one of the better performances of the night.
Michael Johns - Finally reminded everyone why the hell he's made it this far. Seems he only sounds really good on the big, bombastic Queen songs. When a song calls for restraint, his vocals are workable, but totally uninteresting.
Carly - I've heard "Total Eclipse" done better, but it was solid. Unless America was so totally scared shitless by those crowd shots of her husband (who looks like Pinhead from the Hellraiser movies) that it makes people question her sanity, she should be totally fine this week.
Middle tier - mediocre performances, but should stay based on popularity/built up audience goodwill.
David A. - That song was weird, and the performance was boring. Maybe it's growing up in Utah and having an overbearing stage dad, but how can a 17 year-old kid be so disconnected from pop culture and what the audience would like to hear? I liked Simon's comment that he didn't think there was any way David picked that song for himself seemed to be a shot at David's father, who by all accounts appears to be a total dick.
Brooke & Jason Castro - same comments for both. Performances were serviceable, but unremarkable. Gave the audience what they expect and nothing more. Say what you will about David Cook, he does bust out performances that surprise people. By the way, Brooke looked smoking hot and so did her mom.
Bottom tier
Chickeze - In my book borderline between bottom and middle tiers. He's talented, but boring/cheesy as shit when he goes with a garden variety R&B ballad. Hopefully he's finally learned his lesson and will stick with being manic, energetic Chickeze that the judges and audience love. He deserves to stick around.
Ramiele - Better than the past few weeks, but she's in trouble. Key here will be whether enough people will be willing to ignore KLC's blatantly jingoistic appeal for votes and dump her.
Kristy - Unlike the judges, I thought she sucked donkeys again. I thought the whole song was out of tune. Simon nailed it in calling it a smart song choice though. She'll probably get a lot of votes just from idiots who feel their patriotism required them to vote for her.
