Zayra Love

I believe Zayra should stay in the competition. She is fresh and different. She shoots lasers from her hands at the audience and dances like a robot. She has a funky Puerto Rican vibe to her which she brings to her music. She's generally shocked when she's in the Bottom 3 because she believes in herself and her performance. How can you not love Zayra? Would she be able to get on American Idol? No! Would she be able to get on The One? No! Would she be able to get on America's Got Talent? No! So love her for who she is! She's a unique character who deserves to stay. I wanna see more of her and her unique performances! :D

I think they go for archetypes...there are a few Fuel/Staind/Chris Daughtry type rockers, then there's the fey glam rocker type, the balladeer type...and Zayra is the Bjork type. I'm waiting for the swan dress...

On another note....what has Gilby Clark done besides being the replacement guitarist in Guns? Was he in any other well known bands? I find he is awefully harsh for someone that is not an original member of a super huge band...

The whole thing kinda reminds me of that great guilty pleasure movie "Rock Star" (staring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston--in a mesh dress!), where the Judas Priest-type band just goes out and finds a singer they can mold...

He's nothing more than a glorified session guy. It would be like the additional giutarist on Green Day's touring band starting to foist his opinions.

The bestest documentary in the world is Some Kind of Monster, with these hard rockers taking advice from a guy in a "CEO sweater." And Lars selling his collection of fine art. And James setting a schedule of only working half-days as part of his therapy. And the band rewarding the new bassist with equal partnership in the band...Jason totally got burned, considering the band always talked about hazing him unmercifully.

The whole film is squirmy-ackward!

I thought the band auditioned thousands of singers? Who picked this pathetic group of losers if this is the first time Supergroup is hearing them? And have the culprits been drawn and quartered? Or at least tarred and feathered. There isn't one guy up there except for maybe Toby who I can see fronting the band. I agree with roob -- I can't see a chick leading them. Although Dilana is the best singer/performer, I don't think she has the balls to stand up to -- and hang with -- the guys like someone like Storm would. Every episode Dilana gets a little nicer while Storm gets a little skankier.

I think Jill or Josh will be eliminated. I love Josh, but think he is not a good fit for a straight ahead rock'n'roll band. Jill has a good voice, but she is just too petite to front this band. Also, Jill's last few performances have been pretty boring.

First of all, Zayra is the only somewhat original personality out of the whole group. Everyone else comes across to me as either a poser or a conformist to the whole "rock-n-roll" image. I am guessing that most bands WANT someone who is original to front their band. Why would they want someone as boring as the others? Don't they want someone interesting who puts on a real show? Notice how much attention (good, bad, or otherwise) Zayra gets - that's what show business wants, not someone as forgetable as some of the others.

Second, some question her singing ability. Yes, I've heard her waiver a few times, but it's difficult to hold a perfect note while dominating the stage as she does! When she sings a ballad at the mic, she sings fine! And look at which bands Supernova came from - Guns-n-Roses, Motley Crue, Metallica - hardly a showcase for wonderful vocals!!! Don't get me wrong, I just feel the need to stick up for the underdog sometimes.

Actually, what started me into this thing (besides being bored at work) was watching the reactions of some of the contestants on the show during Zayra's songs (especially Lucas). I am sure that Zayra gets the cold shoulder at the mansion, too. It really irritates me in real life when people gang up on those who "walk to a different drummer". I saw a lot of anti-Zayra talk on other forums and I ended up ranting here.

Dilana would probably be my second choice, although I'd like to see her lighten up the gravel in her voice occasionally. She has the same powerful presence that Zahra has. The rest of the contestants aren't bad at singing, I just can't see them fronting up Supernova. I'm positive that the band itself will quickly dissolve anyway, regardless of who ends up singing.

I wouldn't buy her CD either (or most likely Supernova's, for that matter), but Axl any day? Come on now...you can't be that desperate (I once walked out on a GNR concert after Metallica opened - even though I like their songs, I couldn't stand another minute of Axl).

If your first point was true, I would also dislike Storm and Dilana, not just Zayra. I dislike Zayra because she has no talent, not because she's trying to be sexy. Regarding your second point, I am the "different" type of person you speak of (although I was never bullied in high school) and I'm considered a bit of a "freak" by those who know me. And I still don't like Zayra.

I am female, but I am not jealous of her looks. It's not because she is "different" or dresses like a comic book super hero. It's not even her unusual stage antics.

btw- James Hetfield (Metallica) is a kick ass rock singer and his voice is one of those that you remember even if you're not a true fan. I sometimes have a problem with the fact that the guys in Supernova have all had a measure of success in their professional careers and I can't fault them for using this publicity stunt to try and achieve success again. Most of the contestants singing would give their left arm (inside Def Leppard joke) to attain the success of Tommy, Gilby, and Jason and if they listen to the critiques given, I think it might actually help them increase their chances at fame whether they win or not.

One thing I don't get about this show (yeah, I know... just one?) is the song choices. Not by the singers, but by Supernova. They pick the least hard-rockish songs and then bash the singers when they don't do well. I know, I know. Supernova wants the singers to try different arrangements of these lame songs but sometimes that doesn't work out so well, either.

And since we're in the Rockstar thread and zb just brought up Def Leppard (in a cruel yet hysterical way!) has anyone heard Def Leppard's version of Rock On? I love the background part of the song; it's all dark and creepy like sound effects from a Japanese horror film, but I wish it wasn't done by Def Leppard. I would have liked it so much more if someone like James Hetfield or Sully something-or-other (from Godsmack) sang it. Or Dilana! :D

Wow. I come back from the weekend and find that the anti-Zayra forces are more evil and vicious than I thought.

After my return, I reviewed Zayra's "Jenny" performance several times and noticed that Supernova's response (delayed by the commercial break, of course, so they could recuperate from Zayra's seductive and hypnotic powers) implied that they intend to keep her for a couple of weeks to see what she'll do next. A wise choice, I must say. You people can always use the "mute" button or leave the room to refill your double lattes and phone your friends at the trendy pub down the street. My family and I will be basking in the wonderful sonic tapestry known simply as Zayra.

You people can keep ragging on Zayra all you want. The world has spoken. Obviously we are right, and you are wrong.

The theory that she's being kept to boost ratings doesn't hold water. She's being kept because she has received more votes than at least three other contestants (more if you include her avoidance of the bottom three last week). The decision of keeping her around hasn't even made it to the producers or Supernova for the last two weeks.

She has, after all, made it into the top eight of many people (hundreds at least?) who have auditioned. I can only say that I was disappointed that I wasn't able to witness this star sing again last night. When will it be her turn for an encore performance? Is Supernova out of their minds?

If she is cut by Supernova, I can only imagine two scenarios: 1. They are in fear that she will steal the spotlight with her charisma, or 2. They realize that they have the moral obligation to release this angel to soar on the wing of global fame and bless the world with her charm. If they do decide to bring her on board, I would suggest they rename the band to "Zayra".

All I have left to say is "Vegas Baby"!!:thumbup:

She may very well parlay this experience into some kind of Shakira-esque solo career. But she has no business in this competition. I for one will miss Zayra. This was the Summer of Zayra. Regardless of what you guys think, she is an entertainer. She's spawned countless water cooler converstation. Everyone kept tuning in to see what song she'll sing next and what outfit she'd be wearing and when she'd be eliminated. She had stage presence, personality, and charisma that others lacked in their performance. People debated whether they loved her or hate her. In all aspects, she was the very definition of "entertainer." Regardless of all that, she is a human being with feelings and she should be respected as such. It takes courage for someone to get on a stage and perform in front of millions of people around the world and take on both positive and negative feedback. It takes courage for someone to sing in a language that's not their native language. It takes courage to sing in a genre that they've previously haven't sung in before. So go ahead and joke and make fun. For me, I say NAY!

And let's face it, there were other people on the show you knew were never going to have a chance but were cast because they brought their own flavor to the show. Not to mention, without Zayra, we'd just basically be making random Hobbit jokes and that just ain't no fun. :rolleyes:

Dear Zayra,

Last night was the first time on Rock Star Supernova that you were not there. I felt an emptiness, a void, a sense of nostalgia for what used to be.
Then Patrice started singing and I was fine.

I think you would have been proud of Storm and Dilana in carrying out your tradition of sartorial grace on the stage. And, as a tribute to you, Lukas delivered on the mumbling and screeching of a song. However no one - not even a nude Dilana - gave us any lasers (cooter or otherwise).

I am sure your bff, Double L, will keep us informed of your many adventures in the months to come, so for now....

Finally got out of Zayra-withdrawl therapy, hence the long time between posts. Yes, I am still alive and didn't take my own life after Zayra's dismissal. The most difficult part was getting rid of my gold Spandex pillow.

Thanks for the tip, Double L!! I just looked her up on Wikipedia and found that out as well!! Is this made-for-TV or in the theater?

Maybe it would be better if her movie was titled "Lycranthrope". I'd be front row center at the premiere of that one for sure.

Trashy Lingerie is a store in Los Angeles. It's also the store where Zayra bought a lot of her clothing. I mean... really... where else would you be able to buy a blue space outfit?

Hello there,

It's been a while since my last connection with you guys. Well, It's a new year and a new set of exciting things coming along. I have been getting ready to show you guys my new musical direction, and I can not wait to post some of the new demos. Oh My GOD! Seriously, I can't wait. I'm hoping that in the next couple of weeks I can show you guys some of my demos. I would love your opinions and comments. As a little hint, the first batch of songs are all in English and very dance driven. So be ready to put on your dancing shoes on without loosing your Rock horns...... hahaha OK, that sounds soooooo stupid... I love it!

So I'm thinking about really letting you guys to know more about me this year as i would like to get to know you all more as well. I'm getting some really cool stories from some of you that are just unbelievable! (yes, I read everything.) But bare with me on this one. I think I have a cat type personality. (Does that exist or did i just make that up?) I like to hide a lot but I come out and play when the mood is right and there is a fuzzy ball rolling around in front of me...whatever that means..

I have been writing some fiction short stories that you will soon get to read right here in my blog. Look up for the first episode in the next couple of days, as soon as i get some nerve to share them and not think that you guys will think that I am a freak! hahaha . They are called The Carmen Marlon Stories......

I hope things go better for your girlfriend than they did for my boyfriends. Although I still LOVE Lukas and Tommy their music SUCKS!!! Yup! I said it. The music sucked in a major way. The band was introduced as Tommy Lee's band, I felt bad for Gilby. Lucas looked as trollish as ever, and the songs were so wrong. All in all, it was pretty much what I expected from them.

PBD, I caught Rockstar Supernova this morning on Live with Regis and Kelly. Yes, I said Regis and Kelly.
The music sucked in a major way. The band was introduced as Tommy Lee's band, I felt bad for Gilby. Lucas looked as trollish as ever, and the songs were so wrong. All in all, it was pretty much what I expected from them.

I thought that with a band that included some of the foremost rockers of our time, that the music would be phenomenal. How wrong was I??? Lukas has done A LOT behind the scene in Canada before the tv talent show, like producing and writing big hits. I honestly believed that putting him with the likes of Tommy Lee, Jason Newstead and Gilby Clark that there was no way to fail. I think that if they would have stuck to the rock music they know they would have been a smash.....instead they tried to go mainstream, and all that did was cause a major car-crash like wreckage with a body count :mad:
