While watching Shear Genius last night they had commercials for the new season of Project Runway - it starts July 16th.

Is anyone else worried about them running these seasons too close together? How do they manage to get them to show during New York Fashion Week when they are filming mid-year?

I was curious about this too. Also if the new Project Runway is on Wednesday nights like usual when are they going to move Shear Genius to?

There are tow NY fashion weeks, one the the spring" (Christian's show) and one in the fall (season 5 show). Since they end taping 3-4 months before the show to allow the designers time to prepare their collection, they finale's usually air 2-3 weeks after fahsion week ends. Hope that helps.

Well, this is frightening. Since Magical Elves the original Project Runway production company is leaving, they may be replaced with Bunim-Murray. You know, the people who produce such stellar reality tv as The Real World, Bad Girls Club, and Fear Factor. I really hope this doesn't happen.

Here's the link to reality blurred.

I thought garbage bag lady was going home. If it's something I could make, then you know it was waaaaaay too simplistic. I needed help in 7th grade home ec!!

Don't have any favorites yet. I need to find out who flipit hates so that I know to whom my allegiance belongs!

Yeah, garbage lady certainly should have gone! There were a few that were very questionable. I don't like that a majority of them already have their own stores or their own line. I think it should be up and coming or those who can't afford those things but that's just me. :tongue_smilie:

Yeah! It's here!! And goodness, we have some strange contestants to watch this season!

I agree - trash bag lady's was bad, but not as bad as skin cancer guy's diaper ensemble. That poor woman looked hideous!

The blue cup dress was cool - not in a "I would wear that" kind of way - but in a "he totally nailed the challege" kind of way. I liked the dress that won, but I loved the yellow kimono and kale collared dress too.

This is gonna be a fun season!

I finally watched this last night. I immediately liked the look of the girl with the pin up style (Kallen? I do not have names yet). I was hoping she'd be as good at designing as she was at styling herself and she WAS! Yay!

I liked the winning dress - wow who knew coffee and bleach could make such a pretty pattern? She really deserved to win with all the ingenuity she put into every single aspect of that dress. Spiral bind fasteners on the back - wow!

I agree the rocker chick should have gone home. Her dress did not demonstrate any design skills at all. At least Jerry's outfit would work for a serial killer trying to keep his clothes clean. His had SOME design - really bad, atrocious, ugly design, but still it was better than wrapping up in trash bags.

Mystic Glo Boy needs to go. He's not talented and he's kinda scary.

RachWho?
07-18-2008, 10:13 AM
Dexter Morgan would have worn Jerry's outfit.

Rocker lady looks like Cher. BLEH! I thought she was out for sure.

Blayne wants time to tan...I have a feeling he'll have a chance in a few weeks when he is no longer EEN. He put his model in an effing diaper.

Can't wait till whatever week results in Tim Gunn saying someone looks like a pterodactyl at a gay Jurassic Park. LOVE TIM GUNN!

I thought you were going to say that you would make outfits out of the meat the way they did on America's Next Top Model!

You could probably make a dress out of empty chip bags - pleated and folded correctly - the "material" could look pretty cool.

From Reality Blurred:

Bravo orders Top Chef Masters spin-off, artist competition, Project Runway-like Fashion House

Bravo has announced the return of some of its reality series in addition to new shows, including a competition between artists from Sarah Jessica Parker and Magical Elves, and a spin-off of Top Chef. Project Runway isn’t mentioned in the press release, but its influence is clear on two of the series.
First, Bravo is producing a U.S. version of the U.K. series Fashion House, a competition that the network says follows “teams of designers [who] will live together and work to create not just a single item of clothing but an entire, cohesive line.” The show’s similarity to Runway is so clear that the description actively works to distance itself from its predecessor, but also ends up criticizing and devaluing the format (“not just a single item of clothing”) of the show that essentially defined the network.

American Artist, executive produced by Sarah Jessica Parker, is the working title for the a competition “between contemporary artists who will “create in a range of disciplines including sculpture, painting, photography and industrial design,” Bravo says. In other words, it’s like every other runway clone, just focusing on a new industry. More importantly, it’s produced by Magical Elves, who bailed on their baby and now need a new one—besides, of course, Top Chef.

Speaking of, Bravo has ordered a fifth season of the cooking competition and a spin-off, Top Chef: Masters. The network’s super-vague description says the show “unites some of the brightest stars in the world of food, award-winning, widely-renowned chefs who will compete against each other in a series of weekly challenges.”

Bravo has also renewed Make Me a Supermodel for a second season, which will debut in 2009 and ordered Miami Social, a docudrama that follows “a successful group of friends who are some of the most connected and interesting young professionals in South Beach.”

Suede is so happy the Suede will be sold on BlueFly. Suede sewed those crappy strips of fabric because Suede had no idea what else to so. Suede can't wait for the 'animal hide' week so he can use suede as a fabric and sway the judges is Suede's favor.

Lester agrees that Suede is nuts and that his dress was fugly. So fugly.

But really - the models all chose horrid fabrics. Granted, they are paid to wear the dresses, not to pick them or design them - but shiny brown? or that horrid grey and orange together? Surely they could have chosen better - and gotten more! Some of those stupid girls only got 2 yards of fabric or so. You could have just looked at two yards and known it wasn't enough to cover your cooter.

That sounds terrifying BC.

I still love Kenley even though she showed a bitchy side this week. I really liked the skirt that girl with the mouse-face made. And the little top was cute too.

I also loved the long backless dress with the pants.

Wasn't really keen on Kenley's dress - but glad that the judges liked it enough to give her immunity. Half of the fun for me this season is seeing how she's going to dress.

Sandra Bernhard as a judge? Is she really considered fashionable?

LOVED me some Tim Gunn in a rain coat. The man can make ANYTHING stylish - and how cute was he trying to say "Holler, at your boys" heheh.

Good grief! Have these designers lived in a hole all their lives? How have you never seen the Olympics? How??? Some of the crap they made for the athletes to walk in in the opening ceremony were just horrid.

The top three were really the only ones that were even remotely athletic looking. Though of the top three - I would have placed Terry's first and Keith's second - I really didn't like the vest and white pant combo. The rest of those were so off base on what the athletes would wear in the opening ceremony. Honestly - Stella made the same outfit again - she just added some red and white stripes! I will be glad when we get down far enough that she can't hang out in the middle with that crap anymore.

I wish they would let it rip on those middle of the packers too. They survived ONLY because the bottom three designed clothes for the Dick Van Dyke Show. Who are they trying to impress their design voice on?? HEY____The reason the biker gang is sitting at home watching the Olympics is becasue they suck running on a track or swimming in a pool..........so why do we design an athletic outfit for the beer drinking slackers at home and not honor the one in the opening ceremony? I so hate everything about her..... voice......hair.....dried up skin......oh, her design style too.
I will design an outfit and you will like my opinion and F*** you if you don't... because I stand by my purple and red satin cocktail dress. And the poor thing that went home... her colors represented Greece maybe...... but nothing about that said America... and where did she put ANYTHING surreal in her clothing?

Here are a few of Tim's views of the outfits.
Jerell, oh Jerell! Did he listen to the content of the challenge? I'm still reeling over the look that he created: a high-waisted skirt in vertical stripes with a horizontally striped waistband; a pink top with ruffled cap sleeves; and red, white and blue polka-dot bib kerchief, black leggings(!), and this all topped off with a wide-brimmed hat. In another context, this look could be fun and sexy, but for the Olympics? Preposterous!

Stella, oh Stella. How is it that you continue to persist? Black stretch satin Capri pants and vest? Dark red, silver, and blue leather chevrons and waistband? An exposed midriff? Biker Olympics? Enough said.
Terri designed the most classic American look of the group. It was successful, it was stunning, it was appropriate, and it was ambitious. She created a menswear tailored jacket with a wide lapel over a horizontal striped strapless top, accessorized with an ascot-like scarf. Below, she had a beautifully fitting white pant with a tuxedo stripe on the right leg, only. I swooned. So as happy as I am for Korto, why didn't Terry win?
Kenley entered into this challenge with immunity, so she could have napped through it and still been safe. She created a cocktail dress with a white satin cap-sleeved top with a modified bateau neckline (irreparably stained by model's makeup during the fitting) and a high-waisted large-scale purple and white plaid skirt on the bias with a non-bias waistband. In the paraphrased words of Lucy Ricardo, "Kenley, if that's the look you want, then you sure have a good one!"
Daniel finds it difficult to step away from his comfort zone. Yes, he possesses a sophisticated, high-end point of view, but does than exclude everything other than cocktail dresses. His blue dress with red satin piping (although whether the dress was blue or purple is debatable), was lovely, but hardly innovative and head-scratchingly odd for the Olympics. If her were designing uniforms for Olympic Air, then I'd be a believer.
Jennifer is OUT. Oh, I reflect upon our museum visit and Jennifer's demise all makes sense to me: She saw the historical images (some of them being adorable dresses that looked like they were going to a garden party) and she saw the "Nike" refrain (the flying foot of the Greek goddess who personifies victory) and became entranced. Jennifer designed a gold and white striped high-waisted skirt (with an odd "purse" on the back, I'll add) and paired it with a navy shrunken jacket with the museum's Nike symbol appliquéd in sequins on each lapel. Yes, it was a touch of Schiaparelli, but the whole look was too girly and too child-like. Jennifer, we'll miss your intellect and your good humor, really!

I liked Leanne's design and..Stella's. At least it looked like a track suit compared to the other middle contestants. Who's the one who looks like Daisy Duke? C'mon!! But I can't help but love the fact that they are so eager to be couture.

What did you all do last night?

I watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I could not wait to see what the United States was wearing. Very predictable and I think the wrong chick won the runway Wednesday night. Linen and lightweight leather may rule the runway but Blazers always rule the track. but while I watched the opening ceremonies and my mouth dropped open when Poland entered the arena with their female athletes dressed in pink, trimmed in red, cocktail dresses. I could just picture Daniel sitting on his couch dejected up until that point and then seeing him jump up pumping his fist in the air.

I did too! I saw most of the outfits and thought you know, they weren't as far off track as I thought they were - a lot of nations were in outfits like Terri's, and Daniel's dress would not have looked out of place next to Poland's dresses.

I didn't care for our outfits - I thought the hat and the ascot-looking-thing were too European. I really loved whatever country it was that wore polo shirts and jeans. That's my kinda country.

The Opening Ceremonies were awesome - if you skipped it, find a rerun - it is WORTH it. And the thing I was most impressed with was not the massive LED screen on the ground, or the synchronized drums, or even the block thing (I had figured out before the reveal that it was people doing it, but it was still absolutely amazing). Nope, the thing that MOST amazed me was the absolute precision of the tai chi performers' circles. Breathtaking.

I was totally waiting for Terri to knock the hell out of Suede... or for Korto to smack Joe. Team challenges always bring out the true colors. Surprising that Jarell and Stella were such a dream team but that dress did rock!

Best line of the night was Terri regarding Suede: "I don't know if he's packing balls or a vajayjay but no one's suckin on my titties so he better man the f*ck up!" LOL, Terri. That was twenty different types of awesome.

I can't wait for next week: Drag queens and Chris March!!!!!!!

"I don't know if he's packing balls or a vajayjay but no one's suckin on my titties so he better man the f*ck up!"
That was the best ever. But Terri managed Suede very well and their product rocked I think.

I liked Jarrels dress. He shopuld be proud of it. And good on Stella with the grommet pounding! Brooke didn't like the belt for Jarrel's design..and she's gotta wear the thing. So if she didn't choose it, sorry. Just because she cheered for the dress doesn't mean Jarrel was right in assuming he "won"or is entitled to win. That's what bothered me about him. This kid never ceases to amaze me with his 5 year old poutiness. He was "BETRAYED BY BROOKE!!!!".

Nina has led the pack of meanness this season. perhaps because she no longer is editor of Elle or something. She really has the carving knives out.

Although he did have an overwrought sense of self-importance on the runway, Jarell really endeared himself to me when he "chose" Stella. She had to feel like the last kid picked for kickball but Jarell was really sweet and told her he needed her "leathah" skills.

Nina has been pretty vicious this season but (as mentioned in the recaps) her hair looks much better. The better the hair, the bitchier the woman? Someone should do a study.

Up until this ep, I sort of hated everyone except Kenley, cuz she's kind of pretty in a cool/ unusual way. Except now I hate her because OMFG what a bitch!! I couldn't believe she was standing on the runway laughing at her "friend." I just wanted to slap her!! Terri is now my hero for her hilarious commentary, as is Korto for telling Straight Guy that she would cut him into tiny little pieces and feed him to her dogs if he tried to stab her in the back. LOVED those 2 last night!

I am too hard on Jarrel. Good point about him choosing Stella the Leatha Queen. I like her. Jarrel does wear his heart on his sleeve and kudos for that.

Why Brooke chose Blayne's design for the final? The moment I saw this I could tell the producers had their hand in shaping the show. It's always been there but this season it feels like the emperor has no clothes. All the gears are visible. Thrown in for "potential train wreck drama"

And Kenley...has been annointed as the season beeotch. Picking on Daniel during a critique, I was surprised no one said anything to her. I'd prefer seeing her do burlesque.

Brooke clearly liked Jarrel's design..but, maybe the other 3 judges like Kenley's for "couture" value. who knows.

08-15-2008, 08:36 AM
I liked the top two designs well enough - but they didn't really blow my socks off. They were just okay. I thought Brooke liked Jarrell's design -except the belt, so I wasn't all that surprised when he wasn't the winner. Besides hammering on that green leather, did Stells do anything else for the design?

I really hated that they sent Kelli home. I think between her and Blaine that she really was the better designer, even with the outfit she sent down the runway. But really - Daniel needs to go away.

Did you all notice during judging and discussion with the models present the belt on hobsexual's dress changed>?

When it walked the runway ze zebra print belt that ran through the green leather wainscotting was wound back on itself, looped, and dropped vertically to the ground. Later as they proceded in talking with others it was wound tight and tucked up where it was only a thin horizontal line on the outfit. It looked much better this way and I wonder that there wasn't much more discussion about it than we all saw.... and how much more does that happen?

I enjoyed tonight's episode. The drag queens were fun! My 14 yo son was creeped out by them - which made them that much funnier.

I really like Korto's outfit for her lady. The sparkly material, the flames, the puffy, removable skirt! It was fabulous. Course the winning costume - the pink navy one was fun too. I think that the queen sold that outfit and that is why he pulled out the win.

For once, I really think the judges got things right. The top two were great and the bottom two were really, really bad. And yeah - Daniel is gone. I have been wanting him gone since the beginning. But now who is Kenley gonna laugh at?

And I really liked Stella's costume.
Maybe I'm rootin' for my home town.

I liked Korto's dress too. What an inredible red!..but..she was really scared about it, which made the win exciting..I think she coulda put that flame stuff ALL around the collar and not a feminine corsage thing.

The judges are really showing their claws and sharp fangs. Poor Jarrel, they just pounced on him like vultures on a dying corpse. (but were right that it lacked focus).

And Daniel. My friend was right. He is a mess. Clueless. Completely defensive. But in some weird way I'll miss the mess.

As for RuPaul, if I was up there being judged and i got sasses I'd be like Fuck You. You WISH you were Donna Summer..then I'd run behind Kenley and shove her into Ru..

Okay, I have to agree... this was a pretty awesome episode. But after catching the first six episodes of Project Runway Australia, I'm feeling a little bored with our series.

This was the last episode I saw of the Australian show: (This happened mid season when six designers were left and six designers had been axed.) The designers had to design a tailored look for winter using only white fabrics. The designers' models were the six eliminated designers and were allowed to help the designers with their outfits. Here's the twist. The "model" on the winning team was brought back into the competition. Of course, they didn't know about the twist until after they were paired up with their "models". So much fighting and arguing! It was awesome. I really wish you guys could watch it. :( Gay Aussie's are a hoot.

I can't believe how bitchy he was to the judges. Loved when Laura Bennett was all "Excuse me?" Ha! Smackdown!

And didn't he realize that models have to sit in chairs to get their hair and make-up done? Maybe she could have stood the whole time... but she wasn't going to do him any favors after the way he was talking to her.

As for Keith - did he really think the model could get her hair and make up done while standing? Is the man a moron? Even if his skirt hadn't torn, the whole outfit was crap, ugly crap at that. I was glad to see him leave.

That was a fun challenge. I didn't like the winning design, though. You'd have to be a stick figure to wear it. I liked Blayne's design even though he had trouble fitting the top part correctly. Actually, I was surprised that I liked most of the designs. I think they all did a really good job. I just really wish Kenley would get laryngitis or something. Her voice is more annoying to me than Suede's habit of talking about himself in the third person.

PS: BTW, Project Runway Australia did this same challenge three or four episodes ago but they got to use a Fiat 500. Our designs were prettier but theirs were more innovative.

I liked the episode last night for a variety of reasons:
1. It was a unique challenge

Jerrell's though looked like it would hurt in the boobage area, especially with those of us who have bigger ones.

Joe should have gone home - not Stella! At least her outfit matched! That orange, pink, black, hooded thing that Joe made was so fugly, and the seams were crooked, the tailoring was bad and did anyone else think that the top looked like it was sideway's on the model because of the way it fastened up the front? So strange. I don't think Stella was top 3, but she definately shouldn't have been the one to go home.

I cannot understand why Kenley was praised for something that you could find in any store in Chinatown. It's a standard mandarin collar dress... so her choice of pattern was...interesting. That's all. Clearly, the producers want Kenley, with her permanent sneer and Redneck-living-in-NYC shrill whine, to stay and represent the Williamsburg crowd. All i was doing while watching this show was SHUT UP KENLEY.

That she competed in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon Sunday (The Daily Mail hias pictures) with an ankle injury that prevented her from sitting in a chair and discussing dresses on Friday is a bit odd and suspicious. So why didn’t she show up?
Citing an anonymous “source close to Heidi Klum,” msnbc.com’s Courtney Hazlett reports that “that Klum was furious that Lopez pulled out.” Since the foot injury excuse is extremely weak, the source suggests that “Jennifer was hoping for a part in an upcoming Weinstein film, and she was told the day before (the ‘Project Runway’ show) that she wasn’t getting it. She was angry, so she pulled out.”
But Jennifer Lopez’s representative, Leslie Sloane, insisted that the injury was the only reason. “(Lopez) pulled out (of “Runway”) because she had an injury and had to have it rehabbed so she could compete (in the triathlon).” She went on to say “(Lopez) has no issues with Harvey (Weinstein),” she told Hazlett.

Instead of looking for another crap movie to star in with her current lover/BF/husband, the girl SHOULD concentrate on putting out an album that isn't total crap... or better still, get back into dancing, cuz the girl can't sing to save her life! She's making me ashamed that I patterned my nick after her!

ugh,

love, J-Mo :)
