One of my friends is trying out and she has made it through the first stages of whatever they have to go through... so, if there is a Tiffany from Oklahoma on the next season, I'll be watching!

That is way cool BC We can all cheer her on and you would be able to tell us when you felt that editing was misrepresenting her. That should make watching even more interesting.
I am rooting for her to make it all the way through.

Gotta root for an Okie! Is she by any chance a Sooner too?

Isn't is a crime to be an Okie and not be a Sooner?
brunettechic
07-27-2008, 03:04 PM
Yes, she's a Sooner, and actually very smart. She's an engineering and geology major. But she is very dramatic.
And no, it is not a crime to be an Okie and not a Sooner... there is a whole bunch of Okie who like to call themselves Cowboys and wear orange all the time (blech).

Oooh, how cool!! I hope she gets picked as the token "smart girl Tyra chooses to prove that models have BRAINS." Unfortunately, said token is generally booted for proving that she is smarter than Ms. Banks...

I didn't realize who it was at first either. But under the whole group pic is a close up of Tyra and you can see him clearly in the background. I think Mr. Jay was on the other side - maybe in silver. But I didn't look that closely.

Hey guys!
I saw a link on livejournal about the contestants this year.
It includes their photo, name, age, hometown and occupation.
I don't know how to post things on here so I'll share the link with you if you're curious.
http://community.livejournal.com/topmodel/2164919.html#cutid1
I didn't notice a Tiffany from Oklahoma BC... :(
And I heard a rumor that Isis is a transvestite... not too sure how reliable the source is though.
Any thoughts on who the 'plus size girl' is going to be? I don't see anyone over a size 2 but maybe Tyra decided to go a different route now that a plus size girl won.

There are 14 of them - I thought Tyra only did 13 contestants.

Because Miss Jay is teaching them all how to be "broken-down dolls". Good posture is a no-no in high fashion, it's all about the angles.

I wish I could be more excited about Tyra pushing the envelope, but you know she's just doing it for the publicity. At the same time, I guess anything that helps the GLBT community get out there in the public eye in a more positive light is a good thing. Unless Isis turns out to be a crazy bitch. But that's never happened before on ANTM.

I was watching some previews - and I can already tell you that Isis the tranny can leave at any time. I really, really don't want to hear about her over and over and over. Kind of like Fatima with her FGM. Some things IMO, should be kept private.
Also - she is pre-surgery, which means she still has all her male parts and they are in working order. That would make me really uncomfortable sharing a house, bedroom, bathroom with her daily. I mean, really - isn't she still legally and physically a man? I wonder if they will make any accomodations in housing because of that.
I am not a prude - and if she wants to change her gender, fine by me, but I just think it would be awkard sharing a bedroom and a bathroom and sometimes a shower (as the girls are wont to do!) with someone who physically has all the male parts, even if she says that mentally she is female.

I don't think Isis' issue should be kept private. Reason is--gay/transgendered people are treated with great discrimination in this country. Sometimes you have to bring an issue to the forefront just so people will be exposed to it and realize it's not as scary as it seemed. I think most prejudice comes from ignorance and lack of understanding. If even a few people see Isis and realize she's not a freak of nature and change their attitudes, then it's a triumph. I think it's too bad, however, that people's sexual orientation is still a big deal in 2008, but we haven't even gotten past racial and religious discrimination, so we have a long way to go.
Also, I don't think the girls should be uncomfortable sharing a bedroom/bathroom with her. She's not interested in females, and so what's the big deal? I shared a bathroom with heterosexual men in college and yeah, I might have caught a few glimpses and vice/versa, but so what? They didn't immediately assume that I wanted to have sex with them (even if I did).
Just my two cents.

I totally agree... remember Heather, who had Asberger's syndrome a couple of seasons ago? Some of those bitches last night made me want to reach in my TV and smack them for being so mean to Isis, which is the same way I felt when all the girls were so mean to Heather. The only thing that concerns me is that I don't know if any designers would ever hire a transgendered person; but last year, someone hired Isis to be a background model on ANTM, so obviously she's doing something right.
angiemarie
09-04-2008, 09:33 AM
Isis is the most feminine transgendered person I have ever seen. Her face doesn't have that heavy bottom jaw that most men have. I couldn't believe how mean and stupid some of the other models were being. I know they're young, but geez you are on tv and people are going to see you acting like an ass. I'm not worried about Isis though, I'm sure she's dealt with much worse situations than this one
Clark is the girl I'm going to love to hate. She's super-competitive, but she got mad at the girl who wouldn't tell her what bureaucracy meant. Typical hypocritical reality show girl. lol.
Mr Jay's new hair makes him look like a character from anime or a manga comic book. I actually really like Tyra's new bob wig, it's very cute on her. The whole Tyrabot and Alpha J. and Beta J was over the top and hilarious.

LonnaSaur
09-04-2008, 03:16 PM
Oh, wow, that episode did not disappoint! Only Tyra could come up with the futuristic theme, complete with a Tyrabot (is she jealous of Julie Chen?) and Alpha and Beta Jays.
I would only confess this to my gasmii brethren but Mr. Jay looked hot in his future-hair. Yes, I said he looked hot. Please don't make fun of me too badly! What's so ironic about his future-hair is it actually looked 80's, like he should be in a Kajagoogoo or Duran Duran video!
Marjorie's wide-eyed confessionals and use of big or unexpected vocabulary words reminded me of Dave the Larper from Beauty and the Geek. Love her!
I thought I would hate Sheena but she seemed to be so open-minded and supportive of the other girls. Clark definitely seems to be this cycle's bitch. I haven't a clue at this point who might win.

FTR, I agree with you, but I love to play devil's advocate... do we know for a fact she's not interested in women? I don't remember her actually saying she was straight. She could be a lesbian for all we know. Actually, I think I would be more uncomfortable showering with Elina than Isis, if Isis is straight. Well, to be honest, I would be uncomfortable showering with anyone. I absolutely hated gym class in junior high. :crying:

I have debated saying anything else about my comments, but have decided that I should clarify myself and then let it go.
I did not mean to imply in any way that I think because Isis is a transvestite that she should not be on ANTM. Regardless of her sexual orientation or status as a male or female, she should and does have the right to participate in anything she would like too - I don't have an issue with her transgendered state. What I meant to say, and did not say clearly, was that I do not watch ANTM for political statements or anything other than entertainment. I do not care to hear about Isis' orientation or how she has to tape her wanger up so that she appears female, just as I did not care to hear about Fatima's FGM or Heather's autism, or any of the other "hot topics" that Tyra feels the need to bring forth.
With regards to the housing situation - perhaps it is my upbringing, but I myself would be uncomfortable being put into the position of sharing a house and bathroom with a member of the opposite sex - especially someone that I didn't know, regardless of his/her sexual orientation, that is where my question about housing came from.
I apologize if I offended anyone with my comments - that was not my intent.
Pekmboyd
09-09-2008, 09:17 PM
Lester I totally agree with you - I also could care less about whatever "issue" Tyra feels necessary to share with the world each season. In fact, if we could vote Tyra off the damn show I think it would improve ten-fold. I've even gone so far as to think maybe I should stop watching, but that's just crazy.

I finally got caught up with ANTM today; I watched both episodes 1 and 2. It's been bugging me all afternoon who I think Clark looks like and tonight, during Big Brother it hit me--she looks Alicia Sacramone (the girl who fell off the balance beam and on the floor exercise) from the US Gymnastics team or so I think. One other thing I noticed is that when they get "Tyra Mail" only one person is reading it, not all the girls together. That makes me very happy. :D

Does anyone else think that some of the Tyra mail pics of Trya make her look like a blow up doll? There was one with her mouth in a "O" shape and her eyes were downcast - I just about laughed myself silly.
And yeah - only one reader!!
