Project Runway 6 began production with guest judge Lindsay Lohan

The new Lifetime, non-Magical Elves, Los Angeles-set Project Runway 6 began production last Thursday.

Last Thursday, Seal told Us Weekly that Heidi Klum “is filming tonight. She is working. She is in the first day of Project Runway and they are behind, so she could not make it.”

Meanwhile, Access Hollywood reported that the first guest judge will be Lindsay Lohan, noted fashion expert. However, Access said that she “filmed the premiere episode on Thursday,” which wouldn’t make any sense if it was the first episode, because the first runway show and judging wouldn’t be on the first day of production.

The new season will debut in early 2009.

The only fashion she can judge is leggings. :sneaky:

I love the challenges where the designers design for each other - I agreed with almost everything the judges said...until they booted Suede instead of that butt Kenley. I don't understand why "safe" is worse than "bad". And next week everybody cries!

Fashion and music have gone hand in hand ever since video killed the radio star. However, tonight Project Runway proved that they don't always go together harmoniously.

This start off discordantly when the designers pick models and Leanne takes Tia, Suede's former model, in a move that is purely strategic. It's downhill from there. Especially when the designer in question is not a fan of the genre and the model is equally clueless. That's exactly what seemed destined to happen when Tim announced that the designers would be designing for each other, using specific styles of music as their inspiration and focus.

The designers are paired up with each other and given their genres and it almost seems orchestrated to be as inappropriate as possible. Unless there is some strange universe where Leanne reads as hip hop and Korto is a natural fit for country. They get one hour to consult with each other, which is where Kenley starts being a pain in the a$$. She interrupts Leanne during her consult to Korto, asking her to try on shoes and giggling until Korto calls her out saying "I'm ready for your hip hop world! What?"

At Mood, Kenley continues her bad behavior by arguing with Tim when he questions her fabric choice. She goes on at some length in a confessional regarding how little she believes Tim knows about hip hop fashion, again declaring that he doesn't get her and she is not going to change anything about her design based on what he says. Sweetheart, if he doesn't get your fashion sense, you may want to reevaluate what that sense is telling you, because Tim is a genius of style.

Jerell clearly pulls ahead in the work room, not only with his good humor, but with his clean silhouette and eye for edgy style. Which is more than enough to pull Kenley out of 1954 in and into a sexed up version of a pop princess. Or, as Jerell calls her, Kenley Spears. Everyone else seems to be struggling, with Korto unsure what Punk means, Leanne worried about going too costumey, and Suede not pushing his design far enough into the reaches of what rock n' roll means.

Tim points these issues out to all the designers, but Kenley is the only one who takes great offense to it. And Tim finally snaps as much as we've ever seen him snap. He tells Kenley that she needs to listen and that it would help if she removed the sarcasm and facetiousness from her dialog with him. Even when angry, he manages to sound refined, charming and polite! Which is more that anyone else is in the work room is willing to show Kenley at this point, as she constantly asks Jerell for advice and he just tells her that what she is doing looks great. And then rolls his eyes toward Korto, who stifles a laugh.

The Runway Judges are joined by LL Cool J and they are all in for....well, something else. The hair and make-up are definitely taken over the top in almost every instance, which in some cases makes it even harder to judge the clothes. All the same, here are my impressions of the fashions:

Leanne - Korto looks like a caricature of country. I don't understand how Leanne can describe the look as sophisticated, given that the shirt seems too short, the rippling in the seams of the skirt are distracting, and the gold accents look like bargain basement pleather that's been spray painted. The judges claim it's too subtle, but I find it just this side of ridiculous. Which, country fashion is rather ridiculous, but this takes that too far.

Jerell - He certainly made Kenley hot, with the right accessories and a perfect silhouette. I question the monster fur vest/shrug as being just a little too 1997 at Burning Man, but Pop is usually a little slow to catch on to that sort of stuff, isn't it? All the same, he managed over the top bareness without crossing into distasteful. It's a precarious line to walk and he did so beautifully, taking all the right risks to create playfully risque.

Kenley - The first problem is how none of it fits. Especially the high waisted pants that look so poorly made that I am embarrassed for Kenley and for Leanne. However, Leanne is the second problem, who poses in the most awkward impersonation of a b-boy stance I have ever witnessed. It's groan inducing and makes it clear that she was going for hip hop and just as clear that she completely missed it. On top of that, none of it is innovative. I'm willing to bet I could find nearly all the pieces in my local mall. I just wouldn't want to.

Suede - God bless him, he earnestly tries to give the judges what they want. And his vest is actually very visually interesting. But, as the judges point out, nothing else in the ensemble looks any different from what Jerell wears everyday. None of which particularly screams rock n' roll. I will agree that the pants he made looked like they had impressive amount of work, but none of that would read on a jumbo-tron.

Korto - Suede totally commits to the punk look. As an aside, he was apparently a classically trained cellist and not at all punk, which I would not have guessed with the blue fauxhawk and useless zipper accented pants. He parades and his attitude nearly overcomes the design, but when you take a second look, it's easy to see that Korto really edited herself with a finely tuned eye. The pants fit perfect, have just enough shine and distressing to them to express a new take on a classic fit. Further, how she incorporated the metal and chains in the shirt was clearly outside her comfort zone and perfectly pulled together.

The judges are only impressed with Jerell and Korto, and as per usual they mince no words. Kenley, however, is the only one who takes it personally. She rolls her eyes, argues, crosses her arms and huffs her way through her critique in a way that is very off putting. What happened to the excited, cute, peppy Kenley? When did she become such an annoying slag?Anyway, Jerell doesn't get his third win, as Korto takes the top honors. The bottom two are Kenley and Suede, with our man of the third person getting auf'd.

What did you think of this week's looks? Did the right designer come out on top? And are you excited to watch everyone cry next week?

color me confused>? Welcome newbie.

Bravo has all the collections of the top six designers at their web site. I guess they did not want every one else to spoil the show with leaks so they leaked the show themselves.
Joe even showed at fashion week! I discussed my opinion of the collections at flipits site and don't want to spoil anything here.
If you want to see the collections go to Bravotv.com and look on the PR page.

On another note, Chad from Million Dollar Listing got his hairs cut and you can find links to the new do at Bravo too.

This show is so over.

I don't know who the producers are..aside from Heidi being executive producer, but it's obvious that a group of hyper caffeinated "marketers" submitted a report on "demographics" concluding, i don't know..take a guess..18-34 year old watch this show. So what are we left with...a bunch of elementary school children..and our judges are now the school administrators, solving problems like "Kenley is being disruptive".

Do ANY of these kids do research when they are given a project? If I had country music, maybe I'd google Loretta Lynne, or Roseanne Cash.or Dolly Parton to see what they wear. Just a thought.

Notice the bad pants designed by Kenley. High waisted and...lets remember a few judges tables back..a badly sewn crotch. And who went home? the one with the badly sewn crotch.

harrrumph!!!!

lol -- this post originally had a link to a blog or fan page or something but it looks like Tink removed it. She's too kindhearted to just delete the obvious spam but strict enough to keep the crap out. A perfect balance! :)

Dredge... I'm with you -- this show is SO over. It was obvious Kenley should have gone home last night. She only knows how to make one dress, she didn't have a clue what hip hop was and wasn't open to listening to other people's opinions and she was rude not only to our beloved Tim, but to the judges, too! And with LL Cool J as a judge, it's just embarrassing that she was allowed to stay. The only thing that could be better than if she had gotten kicked out last night would be if she thinks she's getting into final three and THEN she gets aufed.

Suede was definitely robbed this week...... Kenley's dramagraphics were better for ratings!

According to EW:

In a shocking blow to Lifetime, a New York judge issued a preliminary ruling against the Weinstein Co. that prevents it from airing the sixth season of Project Runway on the women's cable network. Production of the reality show, which was swiped from the NBC Universal-owned Bravo last summer, is already under way, and the show was expected to debut in January. ''The overwhelming evidence demonstrated that The Weinstein Company violated NBC Universal's right of first refusal to future cycles of Project Runway,'' according to an NBC Universal statement. ''After hearing all of the evidence, the court issued an order prohibiting The Weinstein Company from taking the show or any spin-off to Lifetime.''

The preliminary ruling is a long way from bringing the show back to Bravo, but the court action could be a critical first step in NBC Universal's quest to block fully the deal made by Lifetime and Weinstein last summer. NBC Universal's lawsuit alleged that the Weinstein Co. failed to give Bravo the right of first refusal when it got the offer from Lifetime. NBC Universal also wanted to block Lifetime from promoting that it had future cycles of the show.

''We are disappointed with the court's decision to grant the preliminary injunction against The Weinstein Co.,'' reads a statement from Lifetime. ''It's unfortunate that the people hurt most by this ongoing dispute are the loyal fans of Project Runway. In the meantime, Lifetime will pursue all measures to uphold its valid and binding agreement reached with The Weinstein Co.''

According to a Weinstein spokeswoman, production on the sixth season will continue. Casting has already been completed — and production was under way on both coasts — for the new cycle, which is being executive-produced by Bunim-Murray Productions (The Real World). The company was hired by Lifetime and Weinstein to replace Runway's original producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves, who signed an exclusive development deal with NBC Universal after Lifetime picked up Runway.

The next phase of the court dispute is expected to begin in New York in November.
