General Hospital will alway be my favorite.
I also like All My Children, One Life to Live, and Young and the Restless.
Melrose Place was good.
I still watch 90210.

Days is good, but I stopped watching when Sami and Lucas broke up.

Days has sucked me back in, thanks to my old roommate and SoapNet.
I watched One Life to Live years ago when they were stuck in some undergroundplace. I still can't stand "that Vicki-lady"
Melroe Place and 90210 def.

When I was a teen I loved Sawn's Crossing and Tribes, both teen-oriented soaps.

My wife TiVo's One Life to Live. She usually watches it as I'm crashing for the night but I've caught more than I readily want to admit. I've renamed the show "One Life to Lurk" because no one ever has any privacy. Always someone lurking behind the door, the marble column, around the corner, behind a tree, everywhere. I like to blow the whistle on the plot before it even happens... Can't believe I posted in this thread. Somebody shoot me.

I am sitting here, shoving a turkey sandwich in my face while waiting for the electrician to show up. The tv is on (as always) and I am reading this post when I look up and what is on said tv but One Life to Live AND Spencer is lurking in the hospital......too funny.

I'm tellin' ya... Llanview and the entire lurking populace. Nowhere to hide, not even when you change your face to look like someone else. Oh shit. I gotta stop before I go into a full force rant here...

General Hospital has been my favourite ever since the Karen/Sonny storyline. I only watch it when I have the day off, since I get very bored if I watch it too often. I used to watch Days of Our Lives with my nanny until I went to preschool and I actually have memories of watching the Patch/Kayla storyline. My TV obssession began early....

I'm ashamed to admit that I used to schedule my classes around Days when I was in college. Drove my roommates batty!

Roob, you should not be ashamed. SO many people did that when I was in college (but for General Hospital) and though they would never admit it, almost half of these schedule-schemers were guys.

Long, long ago George Carlin had the funniest schtick about people addicted to soaps. He called them "my stories."

The good news is, I got sucked in when I lived in the dorms, but was able to let it go right after I graduated. So really, just a 4(+) year addiction.

Melrose Place for sure. And I used to watch All My Children religiously, but not so much now.

The good thing about daytime soaps (AMC anyways) is that they move so slow, if you watch two or three episodes a month you still know exactly what's going on.

You can watch one episode of passions a year and the story will still be where you left off.

Passions is so bad that way. All soaps can be slow, but only Passions can stretch one day over a month. After one month of watching it steadiy in university, I had to stop, because the pace was too slow to sustain my interest. Does anyone watch it regularly?

Melrose Place hands down!

I'm probably twice as old as y'all and I like As the World Turns and Guidiing Light.

As a kid I watched Mom's soaps with her, All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital. In college my sorority stopped everything and everyone (including houseboys) gathered in the main room to watch Patch and Kayla on Days.

I kept up with Days after college because as you noted, you don't have to watch every day to keep up. I could tape Monday and Friday and know what was going on. But... they added one too many Roman/John Black for my liking and I gave it up. This was years ago. And I haven't gone back since.

My favorite was Another World. Once it went off the air, some of the characters moved to As the World Turns, so I started watching that show and loved it.

I also watch General Hospital, Bold and Beautiful and Y&R. My tv is on constantly (like any good TVgasmer's should be) and I don't have to follow closely to be entertained. Perfect!

I had a "gopher" type job in the College of Education at PennState my junior year, working for a team of administrative assistants ( still referred to as "secretaries" back
in the 80's ) ... THEY were the ones who watched The Young and The Restless
every day during their lunch break. I had no choice but to watch ... and in no time, I
became HOOKED, right along with them.

I have been a "secret addict" of the show for over 25 years now.

I used to watch "All My Children". I started way back when that psycho woman was on. I don’t remember her name, but she had black hair and wore glasses, but then she gave herself a makeover to look like her pretty blonde sister. She trapped her pretty sister down a well and assumed her identity -- and then she got married to and pregnant by the pretty sister’s boyfriend. I think his name was Trenton or Trevor.

Does anyone remember her name?

She talked to her reflection in the mirror and tried to kill the family dog. She was really crazy!

Yes! It was Janet! Thank you! I was getting really annoyed with myself that I couldn't remember.

She was probably the craziest soap character I've seen. But she was funny.

Hi MissBrooke! Glad to see you here! Another proud BnB fan, huh? (LOL, we're proud BnB fans, today, who knows what we'll get tomorrow!?!)

YnR Fan, that's so funny, the way you got hooked on soaps. Usually I hear that it's a mother or grandmother who gets viewers hooked. That's pretty cool. I remember having a college prof who thought it was silly that anyone would watch soaps. I was a soapie, LOL, and thought she was really missing out on something good.

HoneyBunny, I'm new so you've probably said this somewhere, are you a OLTL fan? OLTLers use the term 'honeybunny' in reference to Nash and the bunny he gave his infant daugther. Fans have taken to calling themselves the honeybunnies.

I am always amazed by Soap Fans. They have soaps and they stick to 'em like barnacles. I am DOOL of GH fan which is annoying as they appear opposite each other. Thank goodness for the Soap Network.

I worked in NYC and met many soap stars. It's weird, because you watch them everyday and think they are who they portray. The best is to meet a soap "villain" and have them be nice to you. The worst is to meet a "nice" character and have them be a total bitch in person. Which is all too common.

While we're on the subject...I'm young (well, under 30) and have A LOT of friends and no one, afaik, watches any daytime soaps. Do you think this is genre of show that will die out? Maybe Soaps will either be in primetime like Desperate Housewives, or on the internet (Prom Queen, Love Pop Trash, etc).

Do you know young people who watch soaps? Is it actually easier now, with Soap Network and DVR's and online episodes?

I would think it's easier. I remember back in the day that it wasn't too upsetting if you missed a day because you knew on monday they'd pretty much sum up the previous week. We used to joke that you only needed to watch Friday and Monday of any given soap and you'd know everything that was going on. But now - with the Soap Network and Dvr's and what not - I would imagine it's easier than ever.

I just feel like I outgrew them - shows that were so compelling to me when I was younger seem silly now.

I watch them occasionally and that theory pretty much still holds true. All you need to do is watch Friday & Mondays. I started to record some when I got my DVR but found I didn't watch them and ended up deleting them. I know on weekends Soap Net usually runs the whole week worth of each soap.

I think it's kind of sad that Guiding Light is ending. It's been on for 70+ yrs and its last show is in Sept. sometime. This is the one I've been watching lately because they are bringing old characters back and actually tying up loose ends.

This makes me so sad. I don't watch GL anymore, but my grandma and my mom both watched that soap and I watched it until I graduated high school.

It's been on so long, I don't understand why they can't do something to save it. Maybe make it once a week or cut back to 1/2 hr?
