...my wedding dress came in today...can't get over how much I love it...
To make a long story short, this dress was not available on the east coast, and only 1 place on Long Island/NYC would order it for me...
Anyways.......7 months to go..........!

Congrats on the upcoming wedding! So... does the dress have "TVGASM" bedazzled across the front? Or curved across the rearend, "juicy"-style? :)

I like a more subtle approach. Why not have a Tvgasm garter made? The garter could be your "something new", and your husband will find it eventually.
(and for the something old, I'm sure you could use some Save Kaysar buttons, no one seems to want them anymore)

Are you registered at the TVgasm store?

Aww, congrats on your upcoming wedding! :thumbup1:
Ironic that you mention this, because I just decided last weekend to donate my wedding dress to the Salvation Army. It was a hard decision, but I don't have a daughter (and I'm done having kids, so there's no chance of that status changing ) and it was just sitting in a box in our closet...it began to seem silly to leave it there when someone will surely be able to use it and appreciate it. It was (is) a really beautiful dress! Anyway, it's gone now because once I made the decision I drove it right over before I'd have a chance to change my mind about it! It makes me happy to think about someone else being able to wear it, someone who wouldn't have been able to afford a dress like that new.
Anyway...I don't want to hog the limelight away from YOU, Jenny!
Are all of your other arrangements made? I remember the huge notebook I kept in order to be sure that I stayed organized, and kept a schedule of what needed to happen when, there's so much to do!

OMG that is such a nice story!! I usually donate the dresses from bridal parties, but that is mainly because I don't like them...LOL...!! :D
Anyways, I am very happy with the dress....it is everything I imagined it would be....it is somewhat traditional with a flare...because it wouldn't be me without that....! :)
Can you post pictures on here? Not sure how to. I would post one as long as I know my fiance won't see it...

Congratulations!
I have a lot wedding dress memories - coincidentally I was cleaning my closet over the weekend and I pulled out my wedding dress. I bought it from the JCPenny catalog for $300. Don't laugh. It's really pretty with lace and beads and a long train... Anyway, JCPenny told me I could take it to any store and they would iron it for me for free. So the day before my wedding, I visited my local JCPenny and the biotch at the whatever department flat-out refused. I was shocked and left the store in tears. I called my sister who worked for JCPenny and she put in some phone calls for me, ripped the biotch a new one and they did indeed iron my dress. :)
I wish you a long and happy marriage.

Oh well, in that case :) ....I got married in the Virgin Islands so needless to say, I carried my wedding dress with me on the flight. (That bad boy wasn't leaving my sight.) So when we got there, I sent for it to be steamed and when it came back, I never looked at it. I mean, if you can't trust the Ritz to steam a dress...
Fast forward to the wedding day and I put it on and it's completely wrinkled across the stomach - and it's totally smooth there so it was very noticable. Mom and friends tried to say it looked fine but it didn't. I think after they steamed it, they draped it across their arm so it was wrinkled right there in the middle. So I sent for them to bring a steamer back up and it took forever. Meanwhile, we were getting married at "sunset" so for every minute that ticked by, we lost more of our sun. AND no one went and told my husband we were having dress problems so the poor guy was standing out there at the alter, thinking I'd changed my mind!
The moral of the story...always look at your dress before your wedding day! I think most brides would but I wasn't most brides...I spent the hours before my wedding trying to get rid of my tan lines while drinking a margarita.

I was a wedding coordinator in college at Heinz Chapel. If there's one thing I can impart it's that the rings really need to stay in their boxes for as long as possible (fake ones on the pillow if you're having a ring bearer) and under NO circumstances should they be allowed to float around in a tux pocket, especially if the tux is a rental. You never know where holes are going to be!
Also something cool you can do with your wedding dresses is dontate them to the Making Memories organization. http://www.makingmemories.org/brides_against_breast_cancer.html
They re-sell the dress and donate the money to breast cancer research and then you can redonate the dress.

I must admit I am really lucky - my sister is REALLY into wedding stuff...she couldn't wait for me or her sister-in-law to get married...
..So it is like I have my own personal wedding planner!! She's been doing a lot of leg work for me, and I haven't had to keep a note book yet...I tell her she doesn't have to but she insists. I think she feels like she has to because we don't have parents :( and she is the older one.
I must admit I'd be totally lost without her.

Oh, Jenny, I'm sorry about your parents...but how lovely that you've got a great big sister. I had one of those, too (and although my parents were alive, my mom was a bit nutty and so my sister really filled in the 'mom' role for me).

Thank you...I think the hardest part is going to be when John dances with his Mom since I don't have my Dad to dance with, you know? But I will do my best to stay composed.
And I completely understand the about nutty mom thing because that's how mine was too...

Everybody's getting married, and I can't even find a girlfriend. Maybe it's time for me to turn off the TV and go outside.....

Maybe after the next season of LOST, 24, and Veronica Mars....

Congratulations, Jenny! Glad you were able to get the dress you wanted, too.
About the dance thing, why don't you dance with your sister? Maybe a bit unconventional, but we all don't grow up with the same situations and it sounds like you care about each other a lot.

jenny- i'm so sorry about your parents. I don't have either of mine alive anymore either and I've never been married. I would think that if I ever DO get to though that I'd just like to dedicate a song to them and dance with my siblings in their memory. How about that?
p.s- I'm sure tha you'll make a gorgeous bride! Don't stress too much 'cuz the most important thing is that you'll end up married.

Well best wishes Jenny! I think the only advice I will give is don't get married near a holiday. My story is that I went and ordered a cake and chose exactly what I wanted. I went back to pay the deposit only to find out that the bakery is on vacation for a month. I know I told them the date of my wedding when I ordered it, why wouldn't they have told me that they weren't going to be there??? I had to call around to every other bakery in the area and I found one that was able to make a cake for our wedding. Unfortunately, it wasn't near the reception place, like the first bakery, but we made it work out. The other snag was that when we went to return the tuxedos before we left for the honeymoon, the rental place had closed early for the holiday weekend. So, we had to leave the tuxes at our apartment complex office and they promised to return them for us. It was so nice to get on that plane and get away from all of the stress of the wedding afterwards!!

samynoodle-thanks for the website. I haven't been able to sell my never-worn, never-altered dress, but now I think I'll donate it. Something good will at least come of it!
Firecat-so, where does a woman find a man like you, lover of all things TV?:D Although I think I am the only person on the planet who doesn't watch, Lost, 24, or Veronica Mars.

I guess as far as honeymoons go, there are two ways of thinking. You can go somewhere that is totally chill and relaxing, where you're idea of adventure is to get crazy in the honeymoon suite or there is the adventurous vacation type where you don't want to sit around a lot and do a lot of fun stuff offered by the local environment. I went to Costa Rica because we planned a trip that offered both. Half of the honeymoon was spent near the Arenal Volcano, in the middle of the country. It's an active volcano. We saw lava flowing from the peak everynight at dinner. The Tabacon Hot Springs was amazing. We did zip line jungle canopy tours, horse back riding, rafting and played in the hot springs. For the second half of the honeymoon we went to the pacific coast (Nicoya Peninsula) to a place called Punta Islita. It was the ultimate in all-inclusive resort paradise. You get your own private casita, a private little plunge pool, open air covered patio, etc. The grounds are amazing and the view of the pacific is jaw dropping. It's on the side of a mountain overlooking a cove. There are several great pools where you can totally relax and the cove offers up some easy going surfing of body surfing. Call me biased but that Costa Rica trip was better than any other place I've been and I've been all over the world. Let me know if you want some links to the places I've mentioned.

We looked in the back of Yankee magazine, and found a house for rent on an island in the Bahamas. Very private, very non-commercial and non-touristy area...it was lovely and perfect. We did most of our own cooking but there were a couple of local restaurants we could drive to if we wanted to...but mostly we spent the week having sex and going to the local beaches! Sometimes we did both things at once :p To us, it was heavenly. But it wouldn't be the right choice for people looking for more of a nightlife, or for more activities (like scuba diving, etc)...
