If any of you haven’t seen this then I demand you go out right now and rent, or even better, buy this DVD. Ewan McGregor and his best friend Charlie Boorman fullfill their lifelong dream of riding around the world on motorcycles.
It was amazing. Inspiring even. They had such a passion for it you could feel it. And the hardships they had to go through coupled with the amazing beautiful moments. Eating sheep balls in a hut in Mongolia, crossing a river on the Road of Bones, car accidents, injuries, a shady guy pulling a gun on them in Russia, or the night they spent at some guys house in Kazhikstan who was probably a mobster. They are 2 tough sumbitches. And Ewan and Charlie are also two really cool guys so you are rooting for them the whole way. It has me seriously thinking about renting a car and driving across the US. Kind of like the wimpy cowardly version of what they did. But hey ya gotta start somewhere.
I was actually close to tears at the emotional finale (although they kind of rushed through it) and Ewan and Charlies eventual homesickness and deep love for their wife and kids.
Sg-dub and our mutual friend Rob have been telling me to watch it for months now and I’ve only finally gotten on the bandwagon. I’m always one step behind with their coolness.

zoobabe - it's actually a TV documentary, so it'll make for a Looooooong movie night. but it can be done in successive nights. It's really, really good; you'll have new found respect for Ewan in many ways.
Firecat, gee, now why did I figure you to be a "Motorcycle Diaries" fan. I really dug that movie (even without a Che avatar). I'm a sucker for travelogs that are done well anyway.
Revolucion!

Indeed, that was a fantastic movie! I wish they'd do a sequel to this instead of the end of the movie future recap.

I really loved the soundtrack. I think one of the songs won an Oscar
On a side note, a movie about him is planned for 2007. Starring Benicio Del Toro and directed by Steven Soderbergh. Of course it has been pushed back till some time in 2007 so Soderbergh can do Ocean's Thirteen.
Ocean's Thirteen!?!?

I went to the Movie Trading Company today to see if they had it to buy or rent. They didn't even have the capacity to ORDER it through their distributors. Where did you get it sg-dub? Now I really wanna see it.

Can't you NETFLIX it? NETFLIX is the greatest invention ever. And they only paid me $500 to say that.
I watched it when it aired on TV, but is it available to rent at Netflix. The guys also wrote a book about the trip (same title). The book gives tons of details and behind-the-scenes business. It also has some pictures that weren't part of the aired documentary.

I seriously don't know what I did before I had access to all the random movies on netflix. (And they only paid me $5 to say that. LQ must have a good agent.)

I love my Netflix. Especially in the winter when I don't want to leave the house.

Me, too, (I hate winter!) but also because I always forget to drop off my movies. I hate late fees. Plus, the local Blockbuster is really small and half the store is taken up with shelves of previously viewed movies for sale. Netflix is great, especially the Profiles feature, but I think their "friends" thing is a little weird. I guess I don't get the benefits.

I finished watching disc 2 last night and it WAS really good. The part with the bear grossed me out, but seeing all the different landscapes and how people were generally helpful to them raised my spirits. The guys were hysterical, and I got to see a whole new side of Ewan (and his bum)!:D
