Okay, so we have the Seen any good movies lately? (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=113) thread, the What are you reading? (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=24) and the threads, the What's on your ipod? (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=94) and Music appreciation survey (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=276) threads and even the Favorite foods....? (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=237) thread. Looks like we've got most of the major forms of entertainment covered (except for sex, but people could check out the How gay are you? (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=57) thread if they want), but what about a games thread? Anybody out there a game player? Anybody brave enough to admit it? Hey, look at me... 8:30 on a Saturday night and I'm posting about games. Why isn't there a "loser" emoticon? Like a little yellow sad face with his hand forming an "L" over his forehead!

I like games like The Longest Journey or Return to Mysterious Island, although I did just get through playing a sim game: Virtual Villagers. It was cute but I was sad when my villagers started dying.

If you think you deserve a loser tag for posting about gaming, imagine how bad I am... In grad school I was the teacher's assistant in a video game design class! I even went to the GDC (Game Designer's Conference) that year.

I must admit, however, I'm a bit behind the gaming curve, I only enjoy playing 2-d side scrollers and puzzle games. My two favorites are Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tetris (even after 15 years!). Though, I can't wait to buy a DS because i'm dying to play the new Princess Peach game.

I work for a tech firm in the silcon valley, and half the people I work with have a high res mouse and special mouse pads just to improve their fps performance!

What the heck is fps performance and a DS?

I'm not much into games that require dexterity or quick reflexes, not because I don't have those qualities, but because I use games to relax and those types make me hyper. I like the ones that make you think, so I feel like I'm giving my brain a workout. That's just me trying to justify my mouse potato status. ;)

FPS = first person shooter
DS = Nintendo Duel Screen (the new gameboy)
ME = Moved right past loser to BIG FAT NERD (nothing new there)

I love me a good RPG. Morrowind, Oblivion, KoTOR, Baldur's Gate 2, even Fable. It's all good.

I still love Tetris! I have my gameboy from about 15 years ago, and still play it every so often. It's so old, you have to be in brightly lit area to see the screen.

I have a PS2 and play RPG's on it. Final Fantasy, Baldur's Gate, Shadow Hearts, and Champions of Norrath are some of my favorites. I haven't played any newer games lately, not enough free time.

I can justify all my TV watching by deluding myself I am "multi-tasking". Paying bills, brushing the dog, washing dishes, etc. But when you are playing a video game, you aren't doing anything else!

BTW, I saw the new PS3 is going to cost about $500:scared: , is anybody going to buy it?

I love RPGs. Any game that has Mario in it i have to play. Right now my favorite system is the PS2 because of my final fantastys and kingdom hearts I & II games(i dont care how childish this one is i love it).
I still play contra on my Super NES.
I play Tetris on my Xbox, and on my cell.
I miss my first nintendo, because of the duck hunt game. I used to try and kill the dog. (i don't hate animals, btw)
My brother just got the xbox 360, and he paid $400 for it, and it came with a free game (PGR3). I just wish it came with an extra controller, i mean come on $400. I'll get the PS3 when/if the price drops, no matter how long i have to wait.

I started one (click here) (http://forums.tvgasm.com/showthread.php?t=448) a long time ago but it didn't seem like that many people play games. I play a lot of casual games (Big Fish is my favorite site) and I like adventure games, too.

Don't laugh, but I don't understand how you play guitar hero. Do you have a real guitar? How do you score? How do you know when someone wins?

Hehe, I am playing Pokemon at the moment. If that isn't sad, I dunno what is. I also really like this DS game that came out a while back, Called Elite Beat Agents, where you tap the screen to the beat of a song.

Oh it's awesome Jamp! It's kind of like Dance Dance Revolution, but with a guitar controller. It's shaped like a guitar but instead of strings there is a strum bar and 5 colored buttons called fret buttons. Basically, the notes are on the screen and as they cross a certain line, you hold the proper fret button and strum the strum bar simultaneously. Did that explain anything? It's easier to just play than to explain how to play... Anyway, for every note you hit, you get points. And you win by not getting booed off the stage. You get booed off the stage if you miss too many notes and make the audience mad.

DS is Nintendo, right? I don't know anything about any games that aren't played on a computer. Well, except for Mario Brothers, but who doesn't know about that? :) But I do like music, so that game sounds kind of fun.

PS: Welcome to the forums!

OMG, that sounds like so much work! I get pissed off when a game makes me use my keyboard AND my mouse. I can't even contemplate what you're talking about. It's like that Wii thing. It sounds exhausting!

Jamp, if you ever get the chance - play Guitar Hero. In fact, this weekend my roomie is in a Guitar Hero competition. If she is the best guitarist, she wins a bunch of money! So gaming could be productive!

My son got guitar hero for Christmas and it is not working properly so I have to take it back to bet buy. I hope they will exchange it.

We got my nephew Rock Band for Christmas. It's hilarious - the whole family plays. You have a singer with a microphone that doubles as a tamborine, you have a drum set, and two guitars. And as you play you rack up points that translate to fans, tour buses, t-shirts to sell at concerts, etc.

My roomie and I were just discussing whether it would be worth it to go 50/50 on Rock Band. Based on what Tink just said and how awesome the commercials for it are, I think we are.

I hadn't heard of it before, but I just went a looked it up. They're calling it an adventure game, which makes me really happy and I'm looking forward to playing it. I wonder if it will give us any hints about the show.

Be forewarned, though, that the game requires specific video cards and also comes with "technology intended to prevent copying" (which might mean software like Starforce). I think I'll wait for the game to become available on downloadable sites so I don't have to worry about whatever "technology" they're using.

Hey, Jampers--I saw that you mentioned playing Big Fish games. I play some of theirs (and Spin Top, etc) from time to time, but am too cheap to pay, so I just play the trial versions. Of course it's really annoying when the trial versions run out, but I have found that if you download from Oberon games (of course it has to be a game MADE by Oberon) they don't cut you off at 60 min (even though it says it's a 60 min trial). I seldom have 60 min to sit down and play a game, but if you pause the game and press the start menu button (if you are on a PC), it will bring you back to Windows, and you can keep the game running and as long as you don't shut your computer down, play it for as long as you want. I am cheap like that.

That's how all the games used to be. I didn't know any were still doing it that way, though. I'm too cheap to pay full price so I have the seven dollar plan. It's pretty cool now that they're offering titles that used to go for $40 and I can get them so cheap.

I will be getting the PS3 version of the game so hopefully shouldn't have any problems.
We'll have to compare notes after we've both played. I've heard that a lot of times, the games aren't always the same.

I don't think this counts, but I like to play a game I found online called Bookworm Adventures. And yes, it is as nerdy as it sounds. In the game you become Lex, a bookwork (he is an actual worm) and you select letters from a box to form words. The longer the words, the more "powerful" the word is and you create the words in order to destroy monsters who are trying to prevent you from rescuing an oracle-I am not making this up! Embedded in the game are mini games, which I enjoy even more than the main game.

I have always liked seeing how many words I can form from another word. My elementary school teachers used to have us to do this for holidays and other times to practice our spelling and our vocabulary and the students who came up with the most words would get small prizes. I always thought that was so much fun. Yes, I AM a nerd.

That totally counts, lonna! It's considered a casual game and there are thousands more just like it that you should look into (try bigfishgames.com). And I have to admit, I own that game and I like it, too. I also have scrabble and boggle and other word games but I got a little bored with them when those hidden object games came out and I just became obsessed with them for some reason. I don't understand what the thrill is... they give you a list of items that you have to find... and then you find them. Stupid, I know, but I love them. My favorites are still adventure games, though. From Tex Murphy to Mysterious Journey, I can't get enough!

Thanks, Jamp! I will check out that site. Sometimes I get really sick of Bookworm but when I try to find other games online that I like, they are all too hard-I am not good at fitting pieces together or doing things that require a lot of speed or skill. I do love the Arena version of Bookworm, though. Have you ever tried that? It moves pretty fast but I like it.

I didn't know it had an arena version. Maybe I'm mixing up my games.

Well, there are two versions of Bookworm I know of. They are from Popcap Games. The first is just forming words to keep the library from burning down. I discovered that one first and used to play it all the time but then they changed the format to make the grid bigger and added a lot of letters to choose from and for some reason I didn't like it any more.

Bookworm Adventures is forming the words to fight monsters. After you complete the entire game it opens up other things you can do-the mini games, and the arena are two of them, but you have to have successfully completed the entire game before you get to that level.

My kid had a version on his cell phone and the first level, you had to get Hurley to help Clair and Locke had to walk. Jack had to try and save the guy on the beach and not get sucked into the engine. It followed the first episode. If I'm not mistaken, Shannon had to find a bikini to put on.

The Cell phone version and the PC/Console versions are different.

Don't know how many episodes to it there are.

In the game you interact with the other survivors from the crash, you have to complete tasks, explore a bit, a couple of puzzles (mainly having to fix circuit boards to make something work).

You get flashbacks to help you remember who you are as you have amnesia, and they are useful to get some of the others to help you as you will remember bits about them (kate in handcuffs, locke in wheelchair etc).

Just about everything from the show is in the game, the smoke moster, the polar bear, the hatches and the numbers.

So far i have encountered - Jack, Hurley, Locke, Michael, Kate, Sun, Claire, Sayid, Sawyer, Charlie, Vincent, Cindy (on the flight), Ben, Juliet and Tom.

Ive only played as far as the flashback in episode 3.

There are only a few of the cast that have provided their voices for the game, but the ones that provide the voices for those that didn't do sound like who they are supposed to be.

Ive been in the hatch, entered the numbers in the computer, been to the Black Rock for dynamite, quite tricky that bit as once you get the dynamite you have to walk back from the Black Rock otherwise you explode and you also have to avoid the smoke monster.

Hey, Wayne! Have you heard about THIS (http://kotaku.com/364155/doctor-who-coming-to-ps2-ds)?!?

Yes i read about that, i was hoping for a PS3 release for it but i still have my PS2 so doesn't really matter.

The only PC game i play is Football Manager (World Wide Soccer Manager as its known in the US).

I completed the Lost game, it wasn't bad but could have been better and it was too short.

Only thing that annoyed me the most about the game was the circuit board puzzles, they were hard especially the ones in the Swan station, i nearly had to type the numbers in the computer 3 times while trying to solve the circuit board to get out of the station.

A surprise ending which i won't spoil for anyone that hasn't played the game yet.

Characters in the game - Jack, Kate, Sayid, Locke, Michael, Sawyer, Hurley, Sun & Jin, Charlie, Claire, Desmond, Vincent, Ben, Juliette, Tom, Mikhail. Also appearances by Edward Marrs and Thomas Mittelwerk, Mr Eko and Cindy in flashbacks.

Very cool! Thanks for the update, Wayne. I never buy games full-price because I'm cheap but as soon as I see it discounted somewhere, I'm getting it!

Jampy, I just bought "Build-A-Lot 2 from Yahoo Games and it's alot of fun to play. Most of their games don't have alot of play time. Once you've 'finished' it, you usually don't have fun doing it again. BUT this game has alot of play time and when you think you are done, there is more to do. I'm giving it a big 'thumbs up!'

Just got Lego Indiana Jones (for the Wii) yesterday and it is great. Just as good as Lego Star Wars. I highly recommend it. :)
Also got Wii Fit when it came out - it REALLY makes you work up a sweat!

Chooch, does Yahoo Games have a game club so you get games cheaper? I have the $7.99/game plan with Big Fish and I love it. I bought Build-a-lot 2 and got about half way through before I started getting frustrated by not being able to complete the goals before the time ran out so then I bought Westward 2 and I LOVE that game, but then I got a little bored so I'm playing Virtual Villagers: The Lost City right now, which is fun but kind of slow. Oh, and I'm about a quarter of the way through The Women's Murder Club game, which is pretty cool, too. Hmm, it sounds like I should follow Ells' lead and get myself a Wii and Wii Fit and start exercising more than just my pointer finger.

Just thought I'd mention for any of you who are interested that all games are 40% off this weekend at bigfish and 50% off at iwin.com. I used the discount to buy Dream Chronicles 2 which was totally worth it...like a point and click, hidden object, adventure and puzzle game all in one. I'd recommend it if any of you like those kinds of games. It's really long too, which is a bonus since I am almost always too cheap to buy and just end up downloading free trial after free trial instead.

We got Guitar Hero Aerosmith. It rocks. You get to play Run DMC King of Rock which is awesome!

It's not ALL Aerosmith songs. You have to play songs from the "opening bands" before you get to play as Aerosmith.
