I'm with you, Pek. I think you can support the troops who have been ordered to fight without agreeing with or supporting those who sent them there.
And can someone please tell me what Rosie said? I've been out of commission for several days, hiding in the dark and nursing my eye (5 minutes tops on the computer and then it goes blurry). I need to know what insanity she spewed, cause it sounds like classic Rosie.
From what I gather (I don't watch The View cause of that whole "work" thing) - Rosie said something to the effect of our soldiers being viewed as terrorists by people with different perspectives, and when the pundits attacked her for calling our soldiers terrorists (which I really don't believe she meant that way, but that's my personal opinion) Elisabeth didn't defend her. On the show, when they got into the big fight, Rosie said "Do YOU believe that I believe our soldiers are terrorists" and Elisabeth wouldn't answer her...I've been meaning to do the YouTube hunt for the original statements BEFORE the fight but haven't gotten around to it.

I actually watched the fight live (my day off from work) and it was NASTY. I didn't see any of the previous arguements but I think that the main problem was that the producer/director let it go on too long before going to comercial and it was obviously getting out of control. Rosie's feelings were hurt, and after Ebeth laid the low blow down with the Trump comment and they should have cut away and let them cool down but they didn't. That was the problem for me. I don't mind that Rosie is leaving early. She only had 3 weeks left anyway, so why continue to show up and play nice when you really want to smack a bitch down? She's loaded so she doesn't need the money. I think that the relaxation and peace of mind would be better.

It was also interesting how, after the fight when they came back from commercial and Alicia Silverstone came out, she gave Elisabeth the cold shoulder. Wouldn't shake her hand or give her a hug. Could have been accidental, but it seemed to be intentional.
As irritating as Rosie can be, if I had to spend 10 minutes with her or Elisabeth, I would choose Rosie in a heartbeat.

I agree, Rach. Rosie is loud-mouthed and obnoxious, but Elizabeth is uptight and shrill. I'll take loudmouth over uptight every time.

I saw it by chance today and the show for Memeorial Day was obviously pre recorded...(because it said pre recorded right on the screen!) and It was EH's birthday and Rosie was so freakin happy for her... gave her a week in the Miami house with hubby and gushing about how great EH is.... it was so crazy because ABC actually ran the show.... and the bitches all looked fake and crazy after what happened last week........and you know EH is never getting to stay in the Miami/Rosie/Striesand house now... and who gives a crap because they are all rich enough to say where ever the hell they want!

The radio station I listen to in the mornings played the clip - she basically said she had emailed Elisabeth and Elisabeth emailed back and that was it and she probably wouldn't talk to her again.
I've also heard that what really pissed her off was that the producers went to split screen instead of going to commercial.

the producers know when not to go to commercial.... Rosie has been on the crazy trail for weeks and weeks and she wants them to cut when she is at full stream and pulling the whistle! TV was made for freak shows like this and it would have been criminal to not air the argument ... I feel the producers had lost any reguard for protecting Rosie on the show... and they way they played it out makes her look stupid instead of ABC looking stupid.. for not giving her more money on her contract.

Does anybody ever read awfulplasticsurgery.com (http://www.awfulplasticsurgery.com/)? There's a video on it about Pete Burns' lip tumors and the result of them exploding and I really want to see it but I'm afraid it's too disgusting. If anyone has seen it, let me know how bad it is, okay? I'm about to dig into a Sara Lee cherry cheesecake and I think I shouldn't be watching any exploding lip videos at the same time.

Yeah, I like that site for some reason. I guess it reminds me that no matter how beautiful a woman is, she still sees flaws in herself. The one thing that bugs the hell outta me about that site, though, is that the blogger dude thinks he's super smart and clever and, really, he's an idiot. Another site y'all might like, if you haven't seen it, is http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/. It's a site where the bloggers post pictures of celebrities or B- or C- list celebrities wearing heavens knows what to remind us that just because they are famous doesn't mean we have to want to look like them. I think the bloggers are pretty snarky and witty. They particulary dislike Hayley Duff, which I appreciate, because apparently we are supposed to think she is gorgeous just because her sister was famous and pretty (before she lost too much weight at got those weird teeth).

Seriously tho.....her jail time was a little harsh. Most of my customers at the bar had at least one DUI, and some had more than one. They were caught drinking and driving without a license. One guy was one of my bartenders and lived upstairs at the bar. He had 3 DUI's and saw no jail time till the 4th because he was sent to out-patient rehab first. The forth time, he only did weekends in jail. I drove him there myself. I female friend of mine had 2 DUI's and her twin got busted one night and said she was the sister. My friend took the rap because it would have been her sis's 3rd too. (stupid...but that's another story) She ended up having to wear an ankle bracelet for 90 days. Another guy with alot of them always put himself in rehab right after he got it. Never jail

So, I guess the word is that she had serious mental issues and needed such a strong dosage of meds that supposedly the prison staff couldn't handle it. Whatever...I work in medicine and some of my patients come from the prison and they are more whacked out than her, so that's a load of BS.
Whether or not they made an example out of her and treated her more harshly than they do some other DUI offenders, I think this is a case where an example is okay. DUI is never okay. NEVER. So if it takes Paris Hilton to be an example to some morons who might look up to her, or even might not, but might think twice because they see that the judgement and penalty could be harsh, then good. Boo freaking hoo.

I think that since they let her plead this down to reckless driving, a misdemeanor, they've gone overboard. And the judge forcing her to serve now the whole 45 days now since the sheriff let her out is vindictive and his ire should be directed at the sheriff. Yes I understand she was originally charged with drunk driving, but you can't allow somebody to plead down than punish her as if she plead to a drunk driving charge.
Seldom does anybody go to jail on drunk driving charges. A family in Arlington was just hit by a drunk driver who only had a breath detector installed on his car to get it started. This was his 4th conviction and he was still allowed to drive with the breathalyzer which he obviously figured out how to subvert by having somebody else blow into it.
The judge has attempted to make an example out of her, but seriously, how many get jail time for violating a misdemeanor?

Paris was put on probation for the DUI, which is not at all unusual and as lenient as anyone could expect. She was told very clearly in court that she was on probation and had her driving privledges suspended. Then the stuck-up bitch flaunted the fact that she has no respect for the law and got her worthless, rank ass busted. She got the jail time for violating the probation, which is totally and completely fair. IF she hadn't done what they CLEARLY told her not to do she wouldn't be going to jail. The same thing could (and would) happen to anyone. I just hope they throw her in GP (general population), but I doubt that is going to happen.

It really depends on the judge. My dad had some DUI's (raging alcoholic) and he went to jail on his second offense and after he got out on his like 4th offense, slap on the wrist. His defense lawyer even told us "it all depends on which judge we get" and Paris's judge was no punk obviously and not playing around. I think Rach said it best with "boo freaking hoo". I don't care if he was making an example out of her and I don't care if it seems harsh. It wouldn't be so harsh if she had hit someone. Not just because she is Paris Hilton either. If she was my neighbor drunk driving and the judge decided to make an example out of her I would say the same thing. The point of an example is people will learn from it and won't be as stupid.
I loathe drunk drivers.

I live in a small community and everyone knows everybody and their mother. I agree with TBOY, it's up to the judge and the DA and if they're in the mood for a plea bargain. Sometimes the court would rather have the fine money. I've seen people pay $2000 in fines and go home. One lady I know who got her case thrown out because she was wearing false teeth and that gave a false alcohol level in her breath-a-lizer. Now they haul your ass to the ER for a blood test. Every case is different.
But I can honestly say that since the tougher DUI laws, there are less drunk driving accidents in our area. In the summer you could always count on car accidents on the weekends. Someone you knew hit a tree or utility pole. Everyone went the next day to see the wrecked car in the junk yard. Teens would usually drink and get killed. That doesn't happen anymore. It is so rare that when it does happen, it's a shock.
I think it's a combination of the tougher laws and the insurance companies cracking down. Just try to get insurance after a DUI.

It usually doesn't happen that way.
Actually usually when people violate probation on charges like these they are forced to serve the full sentence that they would have gotten in the first place. I guess I'll come out of the closet here. I usually keep this quiet on message boards (people tend to judge you when they learn this about you), but I'm a cop (shocking, I know). And I can tell you from experience I have seen regular people get nailed way harder for the exact same situation than Paris is getting. By the same token I have seen people with several DWIs walk out on probation each time and never serve a single day. The difference is that they don't violate the probation and don't fuck up again until its over. Yeah, it sucks, but such is our F'ed up justice system. In Paris' case I think it is actually working. And TBOY couldn't be more right, it is ALL about the judge.
I've got a relative that served a week for her first DUI, and a few years later got in trouble for some shoplifting charges. She was given probation for two years and if she violates in any way she will automatically have to serve the full two years from there on. If she keeps her nose clean, no problem. If she fucks up, she's fucked. Her choice, just like Paris.

Gotta agree with Firecat and Rach. I don't know about other places but around here there are a few cab companies that if you call and tell them you are two drunk to drive they will give you a free ride home. Getting your car the next day is up to you though.
I have no sympathy for drunk drivers or for Paris Hilton. The only thing I think is wrong here is that the judge originally agreed to her serving twenty-something days and now because the SHERIFF screwed up she has to serve forty-something.
Did she do something wrong by violating probation? Yes. Did she do something wrong by leaving the jail? Well, if I were in jail and the sheriff came along and said he was letting me out, I'd leave as soon as they'd let me.

The problem with jail time for all drunk drivers (even first offenders) is that there is not enoough SPACE in the prison system for all of those people. So- either build more jails, or hope that people learn responsibility and do not repeat their mistakes. You can drive without a license (even if it IS illegal). You can't teach responsibility to people though, you just have to hope that they learn a lesson and stop breaking the law.

Well said and good point. I have an idea, let's just start "handling" real deserving criminals like pedophiles, wife beaters, animal abusers etc etc. In some countries the penalty for a convicted rapist is castration, sounds good to me! It will make room for lesser offenders to keep their limbs/genitals and serve some jail time!

It sounds from what they have intimated that it's most likely mental illness. They say that it's now "life-threatening" though, and that they couldn't administer the dose of medication that she needs in prison, which is why they released her. Now, if she has depression or anxiety and is on Prozac or Xanax or any cocktail of such medications, I promise you the penal system is well-equipped to handle it. And I am sure being in prison would exacerbate these conditions, but still, it's something they can deal with and have about a billion times before.

In all seriousness here is how I would deal with drunk driver's, first time offenders anyway. They get a choice, one week in jail or suspended license for one year. Any of the inconvenience they have to deal with for not being able to drive for a year is their responsibility. Every city in this country has public transportation. They might not like it, they might think it is beneath them, but maybe that pain in the ass will keep them from doing it again. On the flip side, one week in jail should be plenty of time to give them a taste of what it will be like should they do it again. And one week of time is short enough to keep populations at a minimum. And I know its off topic, but if they weren't throwing people in jail for simple possession charges we would have a lot more space. Oh, if only I were King.
And Rach is exactly right, there is really no medical condition that she could possibly have that they aren't prepared to handle. If someone were in jail for a triple homicide, but had the exact same issues would they have let them go home?

That would be great, but if you don't live in a big city you may not have public transportation. Where I live we don't have a cab company and we don't have a city bus company (the bus company we have only transports old people or disabled people) And my town isn't that little but it diffently isn't huge. Then these poor souls (not really) would have to walk to work or anywhere else they wanted to go.
Besides that didn't Paris drive with a suspended license? So would suspending the DL actually work. I hear about drunk drivers killing people all the time who are driving with a suspended DL for a prior DWI or DUI.
Ryabusa
06-10-2007, 07:25 AM
I have no problem with "forcing" drunk drivers to walk everywhere, or bum rides off of people. But that is also why I said I would give them the choice between that or the week in jail. If they decide that a year without driving is too much trouble then they can take the week.
Yes, people do drive with suspended licenses all the time. The thing is that if they get caught driving with it then there needs to be some real jail time that they would face, and they need to know that. You have to make the penalty such that it is not worth doing the crime. For instance, if there was a mandatory 90 day sentence for driving on a license that was suspended for DWI then few people would take the chance. Unfortunately that is another thing that would need to be changed. Judges HATE when they see people back in their courtrooms for violating the terms of their previous sentence. And are usually very stern in dealing with them. Hence the judge in Paris' case. God bless Judge Michael T. Sauer.

As, I think, I stated in an earlier post, having to pay more for insurance is the biggest deterrant in our area. They pay a big fine for the DUI, but their insurance rates go way high. You hafta have insurance to register your car. If your insurance gets cancelled, the insurance co. tells the DMV, the computer automatically suspends your license. For every day you have no insurance on your car there's an $8 fee. You hafta turn in your plates for every day you had no insurance. It gets very expensive. Putting eveything in someone else's name used to work. Now, if anyone living with you or has access to your car has a DUI, you pay higher rates. They hit you hard in the pocket here and it seems to work better then changing the law and the threat of jail.
In Paris's case, it really doesn't apply. She hasn't got money problems, but like most are saying, she could call a limo.

I don't hate her. I understand how she feels, I spent a night in jail once it sucked and I would be wigged with a 45 day sentence too. Especially if I was born with the proverbial "silver spoon" in my mouth and was used not only complete freedom but having everything handed to me. She did break the law and she does need to face the consequences but it's not really a big surprise to me that she is freaking out. Most people would try everything they can to get out of jail.
In the end, I would still party with her. I would call a taxi though.

I actually think she might have improved her PR image a little if she had just served the initial sentence and shut up--no bitching in the court from her mom, no asking the Governator for special favors, and no getting out of jail after 3 days (which they called 5) for a medical condition. Now some will say that wasn't up to her, and I will say that's BS because money and power pull strings and I think she and her family pulled Sheriff Baca's strings (and dick probably) to get that release to happen. Then the histrionics in the courtroom the second time? It all boils down to the majority of people disliking/hating her more than they did to begin with. If she had just taken her lumps, she could have come out looking like a somewhat reformed bad girl with improved public favor. Look at Martha Stewart. I know it's a totally different person and situation, but still. Martha took her sentence with a lot more grace and came out of the whole thing with more people changing their opinion of her towards the positive. Again, I know stock market shenanigans isn't the same as DUI/reckless driving in the sin scale for most people, but I'm just sayin'.

She isn't having mental problems & she isn't claustrophobic. SHE DOESN'T LIKE BEING IN JAIL. Which I'm fairly certain is the freaking point. I hate her more and more every day.

Reason 14, and word to your mother, Rach. I totally agree. Personally I hated Martha before the whole jail thing, but the way she handled herself really made me change my mind about her. Paris is a little different. Pre-jail = hate/ post-jail = I hope someone made her their prison bitch and she had to toss a salad or 2.

Yeah, that's most likely it. They are saying now she has severe ADD and needed adderall but wasn't getting it in jail. Well, first of all, I don't know what she needed to keep concentration on in jail (did she keep getting distracted from staring at the wall?!?). Second, I knew a lot of people in college who used coke instead of ADD meds to "stay focused".

This morning on the Early Show (with our fave Julie Chen) they were saying part of the problem was that Paris was afraid to go to the bathroom. Afraid someone would take her photo to sell to the tabloids (suddenly she is shy about flashing her stuff). So as a result of 4 days of not going to the loo - she was backed up and feeling extreme stomach cramps.
It's crazy that this is the stuff they report on the news.

There is a great deal of talk about who's going to replace Bob Barker. I thought they would have hired someone by the time he retired. They've had plenty of time to find a new host.
Rosie's name has been out there ever since she left the View. I seriously doubt if CBS will hire her. Now Drew Carey's name has been added to the list. The weatherman from CBS Morning Show has been a contender from the start. In fact, at one point, he WAS considered the replacement. Mario Lopez and John Hurley, both veterens of DWTS, have been talked about as hosts.
What do you guys think? Who should replace Bob? I think Chuck Woolery would be perfect. He has the experience and personality. I don't think a stand-up comic should do it.

[Jerry Seinfeld is in a little bit of trouble after a joke about rape is pissing a bunch of people off. During an interview for his movie "Bee Movie" Jerry said, "Bees have the only perfect society on earth ... They have no crime, they have no drugs, they have no rape. A little rape, but it's not that bad."
Oh shit! Of course, the rape groups are fighting mad.
RAINN said, "Rape is not a joke. It's the most violent crime a person can live through. It is an incredibly traumatic experience that should be seriously treated and never made light of."
Students Active for Ending Rape said, "I've always been a fan of Jerry Seinfeld, but I'm not a fan of rape jokes, whoever's telling them. Working in the anti-violence field, we get accused of not having a sense of humor. But just because you're a comedian doesn't mean that everything that comes out of your mouth is funny."
The National Sexual Violence Resource Center said, "With what I hear about every single day, I don't find anything at all funny about rape, and I don't like it being made light of. I understand he's a comedian and he's inclined to find humor in everything, but it was offensive."
Jerry's rep didn't comment to Radar Online , but expect some sort of half-ass apology. That dumbass!]....quote from D-Listed.com
I don't want to start another big debate over this so please just take this post as it is meant to be....T-Bag is not the only one getting in trouble for making such a joke.....even a famous comedian gets called out. These groups did not get personal like one poster did here in our forums tho.

Have you guys heard about John Lovitz beating the crap outta Andy Dick this weekend. Seems John feels Andy is responsible for Phil Hartman's death. Apparently, Andy gave Phil's wife some coke at an Xmas party, thus ending her 10yrs of sobriety. Shortly after that she killed Phil and herself. If John's accusations are true, then where do you draw the line when something like this happens. She was an adult and made the decision to take the coke. If a person gives someone a beer who has been sober for x amount of time and that person gets in a car and drives ending in an accident...who's fault is it? If you give a diabetic a donut and it results in a diabetic coma....is it your fault...the diabetic knew the risks of eating the donut and could have said NO....Where does the fault lie???

I dunno know, Chooch. That is a slippery slope and I, for one, am sick of the lack of personal responsibility that is so popular these days. Lawsuits against McDonald's because you're too fat? Don't eat it. Stubborn belly fat? It's not your fault--it's a stress hormone! C'mon!! People always have a choice and Phil Hartman's wife shouldn't have taken the coke, but maybe it shouldn't have been offered, either. Who knows. To me, the point of the fight between Lovitz and Dick is that Dick was acting like a dick. If someone's friend was killed why would you keep throwing it back in their face? If I knew Phil Hartman personally I wouldn't want someone reminding me all the time that he was killed. That is in poor taste.
RachWho?
07-17-2007, 02:25 PM
Yeah, I guess there is a lot more to Lovitz's beef with Dick than just the Brynn Hartman coke gift. Like Andy apparently went up to Lovitz last year taunting him, saying, "I put the Phil Hartman hex on you."
All I know is, Phil Hartman was beloved in the comedy circuit and Andy Dick is not. I don't know too much about John Lovitz, but given that I haven't really heard too many bad words about him, I figure he must not be a major a-hole.
What's my point? I guess, more power to Lovitz.
photochild
07-18-2007, 06:00 AM
My take: I don't like Andy Dick. BUT, in this case it's not his fault. He shouldn't have offered it to her, but she was an adult.
It's not the dealer's fault, it's not the bartender's fault and it's not McDonald's fault. If everyone involved is an adult, people need to learn to make the best decisions for themselves.

Anyway, the story is that her assistant quit a few hours before (probably because she saw the trainwreck that was unfolding...okay, mixed metaphor there) and the assistant's mom came to pick her up, at which point Lindsay started chasing the mom and assistant down the street while intoxicated. I think the transporting charge has to do with bringing the cocaine into the police station. I don't know why they didn't search her at the scene, though.
I don't think I agree with the "poor girl" part anymore - I used to feel bad for her, but I'm sorry, you're 21 years old, you had 6 weeks of rehab, and you're wearing an alcohol detection ankle bracelet - how many chances do you want? I'm so very over it and I hope she gets what she deserves.

I do feel sorry for her, because obviously she is determined to throw her life away. She must have no self-esteem at all. But I don't feel bad that she is going to prison, anyone who drinks and drives repeatedly should be put way before they kill someone.

An exsert from US Magazine today:
Charlie Sheen's Angry Emails to Denise Richards Leaked
In emails allegedly sent to Denise Richards in the aftermath of their split, Charlie Sheen tells his ex, "Go cry to your bald mom, you fucking loser." Richards' mother is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment for kidney cancer.
Talk about busted. How do you redeem yourself after making fun of your mother-n-law's CANCER???
Here's (http://www.usmagazine.com/denise_and_charlie_1) the whole story.

Derd--I was gonna post that earlier and then got sidetracked at work (the nerve!)
If that email is for real, Charlie Sheen is a bigger piece of garbage than I suspected. And it seems he comes from the Alec Baldwin school of name calling.
Isn't it funny how some men EXUDE asshole? If I didn't know a single thing about Charlie Sheen and I saw him standing on the street I would know instantly that he's an asshole.
Same with the Baldwins. You can just tell.

Good choice, Der. It has a nice ring to it. Plus, it's inviting and sweet. If I had never talked to you and I read that, I'd think, "That's the kind of person I want to be friends with." (because otherwise she might defenestrate me)
I like the bald mom choice, too. It really lets me know that Denise is the loser, not Charlie!

As bad as this sounds, I like Denise Richards less than I like Charlie Sheen.

JulieM hastily married Firecat this past weekend, because she's knocked up! That's what InTouch Weekly is reporting anyway. 40-year-old Julie has already denied she's expecting, but sources have told InTouch she's 2-months pregnant.
Julie found out on September 29th, the same day she applied for a marriage license with FC.
A source said, "Julie says that the pregnancy is fate and an incredible blessing. Julie had begged Firecat to keep the news secret until she had reached three months, but he broke his promise"
She also doesn't want to announce she's pregnant just yet, because she suffered a miscarriage not too long ago. She's apparently quit the booze and is on the ozone treatment to "cure" her Hepatitis C.
Even if she is pregnant she won't ever announce it. That's the new trend among Hollytards. Get knocked up, but keep people guessing for maximum exposure and publicity!

She said, “The underwear thing is ridiculous — and I’ve told her! “I’ve said, ‘You cannot walk into a store wearing just a shirt with your underwear off.’ I’ve told her that no one will take her seriously when she does this.”
“bevo doesn’t need to do it and she knows it’s stupid. But she says that she just doesn’t like to wear underwear.”

Are you guys following this Ellen DeGeneres dog story? Holy cow has it gotten out of control! And I am sorry, but she really did make a mistake, and she tried to throw her celebrity power around to make it all better. Rules are rules, and shelters have them for a reason. yeah, it's heartbreaking for those little girls, I am sure, but now people are sending death threats? Wow!

Ellen adopted a dog from an adoption shelter. Her cats hated the dog so Ellen gave the dog to her hairdresser. She talked about it on her show. The shelter got pissed and sent the cops to take the dog back. Ellen's girlfriend had signed a contract stating if she didn't want the dog, she had to give it back to them and they would find it another home. Ellen and Porsha broke that contract. Ellen blubbered and cried for two days on the show about it being all hher fault and not to punish the hairdresser's little kids and to give the dog back. They said "NO" and re-adopted the dog to someone else. Ellen fans got pissed and threatened to kill everyone at the adoption place. Ellen told them not to kill anybody and she was taking a long weekend off cuz this is just too much stress for her to handle and she can't be funny.... but she promises to be funny tuesday.

There's a youtube with Ellen mentioning this story on her show and she is just sobbing her heart out. She adopted this dog and fell in love right away, she paid $3k to get it fixed and trained but it was just a really playful puppy and was upsetting her cats. She hated to give him up - but her stylist who is good friends with her knew the puppy and loved it too so she gave it to them. The stylist's family fell in love with the dog - they became completely bonded.
The shelter called Ellen to check on the status of her dog and she was honest and said it hadn't worked out but she found a really loving home.
To me - that should have been the end of the story. There are so many animals looking for a good home - when you find one, why would you disrupt that?
Did Ellen abuse her position as a TV show host? Maybe, but seeing the video - it didn't seem like she was trying to, she appeared to be genuinely hurt for that family. Her show is designed so that she comes on and talks about her life so this was no different.
Do I think rules need to be followed? Yes, but I think there needs to be the ability to bend them when the circumstances warrant- and not because she is a celebrity - but because she was a caring person who found the dog a good home.
Do I think the shelter deserves death threads? of course not, that's never the answer.
So - my conclusion is that it's a sad mess that didn't have to be a sad mess if the shelter had been willing to be a little more flexible and think of the best interest of the dog - who was already happily part of a family.
The End.

did anyone else here the ridiculous story that britney doesnt wear panties because she is allergic to them??? pah-lease!
RachWho?
10-19-2007, 05:25 AM
I guess the issue, as I understand it, is that the puppy was not to be in a home of a child under 14. Why? I don't know, but I am not a puppy expert. Shelters are allowed to have their own rules, as ludicrous as they may seem. And many rescue agencies have pretty specific rules, I suppose because they are so under-funded and they spend a lot of time and money on those animals they do rescue, so they want to make sure their animals end up in great, loving, safe homes.
I guess my feelings are that yes, absolutely, there are too many homeless animals so of course it would have made sense to leave Iggy where he was, but at the same time they have a right to say that he needs to come back because their contract was broken, celebrity or no. I feel Ellen abused her celebrity power and, of course, why wouldn't she? But I guess my feelings are that Ellen went about this the wrong way and now her zombie followers (who are nowhere near as scary as Oprah's) are ready to kill Mutts & Mom's employees on sight. It's a hard lesson to learn, but sometimes if you break the rules, no matter who you are and how much you beg, you still can't get your way.

I agree. I don't know all the ins and outs of this story, but it almost seems to me that they were out to stick it to the celebrity more than Ellen was out to abuse her celebrity. The kids were 11 & 12 - not exactly babies.

The source said, "They just made out all of a sudden. They didn't really look around to see who was looking, it just happened, but it wasn't that weird after. They just went along talking to friends and separated soon after and both kept partying."
Karo's genitals probably realized how damn gorgeous her ex-husband was and sent smoke signals to her brain. That man is every shade of sexy and Karo was a dumb bitch to let him go! Hell, if I saw him at a club I'd go up to him and start making out with him. He probably gets that all the time.

Well I would say it mostly begins with her appearance in the unfortunately view-by-me movie Charlie's Angels, in which she's tied up. She elaborately explains step-by-step to a captor how she'll extricate herself from the situation. Then she proceeds to escape using none of the steps. Then she says "And that's what I call kicking your ass." I very nearly walked out of the theater.
Everything since then has been a shit-sandwich (-movie?), and I avoided everything until Donnie Darko. While I appreciate her producing it or something like that, her acting in the movie was awful. It was like what a really stupid person thinks a good teacher is, but less believable.
I am completely open to suggestions of hers movies that were not terrible (ET doesn't count).
*edit: Everything else where she just played an eye-candy role also does not count. Those were her best performances. Because once she couldn't rely on looks, she had no skill to fall back on.

Well, Tom, first of all, I really love your taste in movies. But as much of an indie movie lover as I am, I am still a chick and so I have periodic mainstream taste in movies I can't really apologize for. That being said, I mostly think that the top 10 list of females making the movie $$ is ridiculous, but no moreso, and probably much less so, than their male counterparts (Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Mel Gibson...all pretty crappy actors, and with questionable ethics, etc.)
As with most professions, the people who are really good at what they do aren't making the bank.
Oh yeah, and I do really love Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates. And Scream.
Treadingonme
11-30-2007, 12:24 PM
I've never seen 50 First Dates, partly because Sandler movies had jumped the shark by that point, but mostly because of Drew. Scream is an interesting case because she dies right away *spoiler alert*. But that was when she could still get by on her looks, and her 'acting' in it consisted of trying not to die, then dying. Also, on a similar note, I hate Julia Stiles. However, I liked her in The Omen. Wait, let me correct myself. I liked her getting tortured in The Omen. There, that's more accurate.
I'm not against all mainstream movies, just most chick flicks, and most other mainstream movies. I will dispute one thing though Rach: I actually think Tom Cruise is a pretty good actor. He's likable in movies, whereas real life? Not so much. His movies may not all be good, in fact most of them, especially lately, aren't, but normally it's because of content, not because of him.

I think Tom Cruise sucks as an actor generally, with the exception of maybe Jerry Maguire, where is think he may have pretty much just been playing himself, and Magnolia, where I think he may have been playing a very exaggerated version of himself.
My issue with actors/actresses with such big offscreen personalities, especially personalities that just plain suck, is that I can not maintain that suspension of disbelief that is necessary for a good filmgoing experience to work. Best case in point: Russell Crowe. Instead of watching one of his films and thinking, "Oh, this man is a brilliant mathematician but his life is falling apart! It's beautiful and sad!" I think, "Russell Crowe is a douchebag, and he's pretending to be a brilliant, sad genius, but in the end, he's just a douchebag."
50 First Dates is a good movie, I swear.

I loved 50 First Dates. And when did Drew Barrymore become so "old" that she can no longer rely on her looks? Tom Cruise I can't stand except in Jerry Maguire and Top Gun. All of these actors/actress' are overpaid. Of course if I was one of them I would give all my money to charity and live in a card board box..........nah if I was one of them I'd be thrilled. Since I'm not, they are overpaid!

Gotta ask? When did Drew have looks to rely on? Have to say, she is not my idea of a very attractive woman. Julia Roberts either - really can't stand her and the only movies of hers that I liked were My Best Friends Wedding and Steel Magnolia - in both, she was overshadowed by much better actors/actresses, which was a good thing.
Used to love Tom - now he is just a creepy old man, married to a woman who is young enough to be his daughter. How creepy is that?

Looking through Drew's filmography, I saw/remembered she was in Wayne's World 2 and one of the Batman movies. She didn't have significant roles, she was in them to look hot. And I thought she did an effective job (at least at the time). But I wouldn't say her roles in those movies had any effect on the movie being good and/or bad (I liked both...at the time at least).
I found out last night that 50 First Dates is one of my girlfriend's favorite romantic comedies. I may have to suck it up and watch that with her at some point...

Wow, she's only 16.
I wonder if their mom ever bothered to have a birth control "talk" with either of them. I mean condoms and the pill aren't difficult to find, even for teenagers.
I know they are Southern and probably strict Christians, but I would rather have a 16 year old daughter on the pill than a pregnant 16 year old daughter.

Keri Russell, Justin Timberlake, hell even Christina Aguilera seem to have done okay, somehow...can't fault it all on Disney. Anyway, Jamie Lynn works for Nickelodeon.

My mistake on the Nickelodeon thing. Apparently they just raise the whores there, not Disney. At least, they're of age at Disney when it happens. Remember though, for a while there Christina was pretty dirty. Dirrty in fact.
Ahh, a sweeping generalization.

I read at Newsgasm that Britney was taken to Cedars Sinai for psychiatric tests. And I thought good, maybe they can help her, get her on some meds, something.
Then their was an addition to the article that her son Jayden was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, too. That is just so sad. I hope he's OK.

Did you guys see the latest about Jamie Lynn... (http://www.parentdish.com/2008/01/03/jamie-lynn-due-in-a-couple-of-months/) the 19-year-old guy might not be the father. It could be a producer of her show. Oh, and she's six months along, not three.
Oh, and this is my favorite part of the article about Britney's meltdown: "Spears' attorneys, Trope and Trope, had filed a motion Wednesday asking to be relieved as her counsel due to a "breakdown" in communication with Spears." How difficult do you have to be to have money-hungry lawyers drop someone as rich as she is?

I just have to say that I'm a Britney fan and have been for a long time and this is an awful mess. She just doesn't have the skills to live in the real world, or the world that is her profession and it's taken it's toll. It seems she was taken care of and told what to do, where, when and how until she was old enough to want a little freedom and control. When push came to shove, those who controlled her, let her go without the know-how to survive and basically said..."Go ahead, do what you want, take control of your career and your life, but when it all blows up in your face, don't come running to us, cuz we'll just stand back and say 'I told ya so...'" and that's just what happened.
..... do I sound like that dude that cried "JUST LEAVE MY BRITNEY ALONE!"

Sorry Chooch - gotta disagree with you here. I have absolutely NO SYMPATHY for this publicity hungry biotch. Absolutely everything that has happened in the last two+ years she has brought on herself -and she needs to grow up and get a real life.
Personally, I am glad that the judge finally took those poor boys away from her and is not allowing visitation. She doesn't deserve them and someone needs to get them out of her presence before she kills them with her stupidity.
And I would be waaaay happy never to see another photo or article about her again. And if one more person says something along the lines of "poor little Brittany, her mama just screwed her up" I think I just might SCREAM!!! She's 26 for heaven's sake - that is more than old enough to know right from wrong!

I personally don't think her mother screwed her up, I think the paparazzi did. I can't imagine how you could live your life with a pack of 50+ cameramen on your heels at every second of every day without an altered view of reality. She hasn't made the right decisions to take her away from the spotlight, so she does have some culpability, I'm not denying that, but not a single person on earth aside from maybe Michael Jackson can identify with the scrutiny Britney receives, and look how he turned out.
I think the whole episode should get people thinking about personal privacy laws and just how far we're willing to let people invade others' lives. I also think Britney should pull a Bruce/Demi and move to some small town in Idaho or something.
RachWho?
01-06-2008, 08:30 AM
I think Mama Spears had a lot to do with screwing her up, but I think most moms who whore their kids out to make them some bank at a young age aren't the greatest parents, in my opinion. She did the same thing to Jamie Lynne, and when little sis ended up pregnant (which also isn't the sign of the greatest parentage), Mama Spears sold JL's story out to the highest bidder. But you can't put all of Brit's problems on Mama Spears' shoulders. The media, including the paparrazzi, even us, as those who eat it all up, we all play a role. Point is, she's screwed up.
The good news is (insert sarcasm here), Dr. Phil arrived during Brit's release from Cedars Sinai this morning to make it all better. Word is, he's going to do a special on her on his show on Tuesday. I feel comfortable blaming whatever goes wrong with Brit from now on on Dr. Phil and also on her parents, if it is true that they appear on his show, which according to reports, they are going to. Word is, Brit was furious that Cedars let him on to her floor and into her room, so I don't think we'll be seeing her on his show any time soon.

Well I think (funny how we all have opinions about these numb-nuts that we have never nor will ever meet)
it is a combination of many of the things you have mentioned. I do think that Mama Spears is getting a lot of blame where she shouldn't, though.
I think when you are twenty-six years old, you need to be accountable for yourself. Can't blame the rents anymore. You have had eight years to live on your own, get a good therapist, be your own person, and move on. If you don't take care of your past, then it will take care of you. (Oh my God! That is sooo profound and I just made it up, SWEAR~!)
Some people are just predisposed to mental illness. Plain and simple. Her behavior seems bi-polar, and she hasn't been medicated for it (or if she has- she hasn't been following her Doctors orders).
She is also obviously chemically dependent and needs to abstain completely from drugs and alcohol. Any use of those, and it will throw her mental illness completely out of whack.
And I also totally blame the paparazzi for many of her troubles. It seems like they have no interest in watching her get better. They are total blood suckers who feed off and profit from her drama.

I read somewhere else that she left the hospital with Dr. Phil. Was that wrong? I hope it was.
I think Britney suffers from some organic mental illness. Bipolar, Post-partum depression, whatever, SHE IS ILL. And she had enough money and power to surround herself with people who never questioned her or defied her. If they did, they were gone. I don't think anyone is to "blame" for this situation, it was just a clusterfuck of epic proportions. Rich, famous person with a mental illness grows up in the spotlight and is indulged in her every whim. She has a gigolo ex-husband, paparazzi following her constantly, a justice system that gave her a free pass for way too long, and access to tons of drugs and alcohol. I'm surprised she lasted this long.

I'm hoping that Britny's need for drama and exposure will actually allow her to get help with Dr.Phil. Love him or hate him I've seen him help a lot of whacky people. I do believe she is suffering form mental illness and the drugs and alcohol are making it 100x worse. I feel sorry for her if she does have a mental illness. She cannot control that.
But if she lets Dr. Phil in thinking its just another way to get herself attention he might just be able to get to her. I don't know what it is, maybe his bald head hyptnotizes people but I've seen him work wonders. I'm just praying SOMEBODY will help this girl before its too late.
