i watched most of it. I didnt really enjoy the past winners giving the speeches about the nominees for the main categories - best actress, actor, etc. That part took FOREVER! and i wouldnt have minded the "animation 2008", "action 2008", "romance 2008" montages except that they were insanely longer than they needed to be. nice idea but they should shorten them up by like 20 minutes.

and watching heath ledger's parents accept the award was super sad and tear-jerking! it was nice that they got to be there and speak for him though instead of just one of his fellow actors.

i thought jennifer anniston's dress was gorgeous but her hair was horrible. sjp looked like her boobs were going to spill out at any minute! tina fey looked really good and i liked her & steve martin's thing.

i enjoyed hugh jackman as the host. much better than the reality tv hosts from whatever award show that was!

Ok, I've had a few techincal difficulties in my first post, but I think I have it all fixed now.

How many of you watched last night. I was grateful for my dvr. I recorded alot of it and then FF'd thru the "boring" stuff. I hated the new production. I didn't like the glittery arched curtain or the black & blue stage which, it & the podium, were way too close to the audience. It felt more like a club atmosphere than a theatre. And where the hell was Jack Nickelson? He's usually front & center for all the presenters and winners to pay homage to.

I think Hugh Jackman made a great host & his opening was entertaining & funny. See you don't have to have a comedian.

Anne Hathaway's dress for her appearance with Jackman was much prettier than the one she wore to the ceremony, don't you think?
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1853413836_12004460315-2.jpg
She is so pale that she looks like death itself. That pale dress just makes her look like she was just dragged out of her coffin.

Queen Latifah's on-stage dress that she wore to sing to all the dead people was much more flattering than the one she wore to the show. As for the memorial segment. The camera kept cutting in & out to include her in the shot & that just made it too hard to see & read who the deceased were half the time. Big mistake IMO.
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1659425525_8356499708-2.jpg

She looks like she was literally stuffed into this dress. I think she has forgotten 'Jenny's" number.

She does look good in blue & her hair looks great.

They sucked me in. I was channel surfing and I saw Tim Gunn, and I went OMFGYAY TIM GUNN!! I ended up watching the whole dang show, and I was really entertained. Hugh Jackman was excellent, and I loved everything except (like AC) the 45 minute speeches introducing the nominees. Except... can we talk about Tim Gun for a minute? Worst. Interviewer. Ever! He was asking the most inane questions and it seemed like he was rushing eveyone off the stage. And he wouldn't touch anyone! Is he a germaphobe? You could see people at the end of his questions wanting to shake hands or air kiss but then they just stood there awkwardly while he gripped his mic and cheesed to high heaven. It was just... bad.

Tina Fey and Steve Martin were hilarious! I think they should host next year.

Best dressed of the night for me was Queen Latifah (the stage one, not the red carpet one). Everyone looked nice and there were no real "WTF?" dresses, but for some reason I fell in love with Latifah's dress. She just looked beautiful. I loved Anne Hathaway's red carpet dress and Angelina Jolie's HEEYUGE freaking emeralds, too. Best necklace definitely goes to Taraji Henson. That thing was wow.

pics, please, chooch!! EDIT: haha... I must be psychic. thx chooch!! also, Anne Hathaway looked much more alive on TV than in that pic. Yikes! Maybe she's auditioning for the next Twilight film?

The singing & dancing segment with Sasha Fierce started out good but quickly turned into a nightmare. I'm a huge fan of dancing & I FF'd this only after a minute.

I am so pissed! We went to the gym last night at like 5:00 so that we could be home in time for the Oscars at 8:00 or 8:30 or whatever. We get home at like 7:15 and find out that they didn't tape-delay it for the West Coast! It had started at 5:30 and I missed all the Hugh Jackman stuff, which was really all I was tuning in for, we all knew who was winning everything.

I actually really liked the speech thing for introducing the nominees - I think it really honored all of them rather than making the non-winners just footnotes. I thought it was a really personal touch...it worked better for some than others - Robert DeNiro's Sean Penn speech was good, but Adrien Brody's was just ugh. And how awed Anne Hathaway was when Shirley Maclaine was talking to her - so cute.

Best Dressed for the night was a tough one. i tink everyone looked like shit. What ever happened to elegance & glamour. i can't believe these women spent real money to look like they did last night. Pale & poofy or red & cut.... it was just not doing it for me.

Anjelina Jolie got it right. She was elegant & refined. I loved her emerald earrings altho I'm sure some poor, indegent, child spent hours in the mines, for pennies an hour, just to get those gems for her.

Evan Rachel Wood has a classic flowing gown suitable for the red carpet. She looked great from head to toe.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/2225914199_7852995048-2.jpg
Tina Fey & Steve Martin were very entertaining & Tina looked very sophisticated for a TV star. She outshown some of those snobby movie stars.

Alicia Keys was pretty in pink, one of the few to wear a dress with some color. She looked fabulous.

There was a definite tread last night. I noticed it starting at the Golden Globes. It's the "Mermaid Gown". There were quite a few of them last night.

Washed-out beige was trendy too. I hate all of these gowns. Some look just like coffin lining, like Penelope Cruz. What happened to color?

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1787949945_5645592168-2.jpg
Taraji Henson is another coffin liner. I liked it until I saw it close-up.

Marisa Tormei got it wrong again. There were so many folds & angles on that gown. The fabric went on for miles. Yuk! She has such a great body. Why did she distract from it with all that crap behind her. Cut it off!!!

What do you think of Miley Cyrus' dress? She said it was the first gown she looked at & loved it right away. I wanted to like it & I did for awhile. Then i didn't. Now I do again..... I'm just not sure. Age appropriate? Yeh, I think so, but ........

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1422176253_677415593-2.jpg
Sophia Loren looked riddiculous in all those piss-yellow ruffles. The woman still looks amazing for an old broad, but that dress was a nightmare!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/2032180050_3023401528-2.jpg
She's just scary to look at, no matter what she wears.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/2059513087_8435292198-2.jpg
I did NOT like Kate Winslett's gown. Maybe it looked good in person, but on TV, it wasn't very awe-some. i didn't like the cut of fabric going over the shoulder & her hair was soooo matronly. Not a good look for her at all.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1771666823_3417327172-2.jpg
Meryl Streep never disappoints me. She always looks like crap. She said, it fit, so she wore it. I believe her.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1746302364_7389951226-2.jpg

Oh Heidi! You look awful, just awful. What a mess that dress was & she loved it. Her chunky, over-large bracelets & earrings just made it all the worse. She is suppose to be the center of fashion. Her hair was all slicked & greasy looking, like she hadn't washed it in days! BAD!

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1568832200_7415735745-2.jpg
Virginia Madsen was beautiful in her red gown.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/1347023576_4307465879-2.jpg
Amy Adams was not. That chunky necklace was no right for the dress at all.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/2221862526_6142185932-2.jpg
Reese Witherspoon's make-up looked like she was punched in both eyes. She usually has such a fresh, sweet look. Her face reminded me of someone who'd been drinking all night & her make-up melted. I liked the dress tho.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/chooch850/chooch850pt2/Awards/2219428882_8422018821-3.jpg
Just way too much lace going in every which direction.

Well, there ya have it. I was not impressed with our stars & their stylists this year. Nowhere near the elegance & glamour I expect. I was diappointed & the Red Carpet shows were awful. It was too crowded & you couldn't get a clear view of what anyone was wearing. Ryan Seacrest was just an idiot with stupid questions that nobody cared about. I agree that Tim Gunn was totally out of his element on this one. He needs to stay in a studio and do commentary from there. Makes me miss Joan Rivers!

ugh yes!! And did you see her shoes? Big clunky grandma pumps and a matching black bag. She was downright awful, from her hair to her jewelry to that horrible bag of a dress. yuck

I think I would have loved Miley's dress if it were short/ cocktail length. As it is, I think it's too much.

Whoopi's dress has me speechless. She said on the View today that she just loves that dress and will wear it when she comes back to work on Wednesday. Me being fat, I would probably choose something comphy like this if i was just going to be in the audience, but she was on-stage. It just looks like something from the 70's to me.

I didn't get a good look at these mermaid dresses earlier. I've had a better chance to see them in better lighting.

Diane Lane looks fabulous!

I'm liking Vanessa Hudgen's mermaid style better now that I can see how well it fits her.

Thanks for posting the pics, chooch!

Beyonce and Miley's red carpet dresses were both crappy imo. Why was Miley at the Oscars anyway? She's a crappy pop singer with a Disney sitcom.

Alicia Keys looked so pretty in that pink color. And I have to disagree with you chooch, I thought Kate Winslet looked smashing. And the wth was up will all those mermaid dresses? What a weird trend.

Wasn't Miley's movie Bolt nominated for animated feature?

Thanks Chooch - I saw parts of the show, but was really just fading in and out - too many meds yesterday.

I hate the mermaid trend. Diane Lane looked good in hers, but the rest of them? Ick - especially that black and gold one that Byonce (sp?) had on. I think she has a lovely figure, but that thing made her hips look huge. Not a good look for her - nor was that red thing with the tail between the legs in the musical number with Hugh Jackman. That things was terrible. I kind of liked the number, but I didn't realize it was her until you pointed it out. Did I mention that I was heavily medicated all weekend? LOL

Didn't like Miley's dress - I think it was the belt. I mostly agree with your other pics though. I thought the color of Kate Winslet's dress was good for her, but the cut and style was just meh.

Jessica Biel should fire her stylist. She is a beautiful girl with a body I would KILL for, and she is dressed in a sack with a pillow case hanging from the front. AND she had on BLACK shoes with an off-white dress. I changed my mind: she should SHOOT her stylist.

Miley looked like she was being consumed by her dress. I'm over the SJP love that always seems to abound on the red carpet. "Only SJP could wear that....blah, blah, blah." She looked meh. And her hair? meh. And her husband: WTF WAS GOING ON WITH THOSE HIGHLIGHTS, FERRIS????

I thought Ann Hathaway's dress was fierce! OMG was that thing gorgeous. The best of the night for me was Angelina. She's figured out that she is so hot she doesn't need much at all to look stunning.

I was watching E!'s red carpet and Juliana totally freaked out and screamed when Brad & Angie got out of the car. It was hilarious. She cracks me up.
