That was an interesting finale. This is only the second season I have watched from end-to-end and I really noticed how the "loser" chefs responded to the challenge. You would think that you would want to have enough personal pride (especially on national TV!) to really step up and show your worth. Definitely LA and Ben did. Andrea is, well Andrea (can't wait for PottyMouth's recap on this one - and the recaps have been Excellent! Thanks for the laughs PottyMouth).
Perhaps what was not surprising was Lacey's "I don't give a shit - everyone hates me attitude." She was immature and had no business being in anyone's kitchen. I know that they cast these shows to create drama (it would be pretty boring to have quiet, controlled competent people as ALL of the contestants). But it was a little manipulative - her skill set was so far below anyone else on the programs it was almost like the producers selected her BECAUSE she was useless.
I was surprised at Gio- he really seemed defeated and tired by the whole season. That may have been selective editing by the producers to increase drama ("Will Gio screw up and tell Ramsay to piss off? Stayed tuned for the most dramatic finale EVER!"), or it may actually have been his belief when he was told by the producers he could not go home - yet. Once the actual cooking began, he seemed to be in a good rhythm. Andrea was funny too - never cooked Halibut? Seriously - how "puffed up" was her resume?
I was impressed by how both Paula and Danny handled their brigades. Andrea could take some leadership lessons from Paula. It's not about yelling and being an uber-bitch - it’s about firmness, control and calm. Danny also seemed to "step up." It was nice (for once) to see Ramsay feeling like it was a hard decision between two good chefs.
