View Full Version : Hell's Kitchen: Season 6

Chrissie
07-20-2009, 04:35 PM
Starts Tues. 7/21 @ 8, with a two hour show

Tuesday nights will sizzle this summer when Chef Gordon Ramsay welcomes the nation's most talented and trained chefs yet to a sixth course of his unscripted series HELL'S KITCHEN.

Each week Ramsay grills the ambitious hopefuls, putting them through rigorous culinary challenges and testing them to see who can handle the pressure of a fast-paced kitchen where only the skilled survive. In each episode, Ramsay will eliminate one chef while the rest remain to fillet their way toward the grand prize of a Head Chef position at Araxi Restaurant in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.

Established in 1981, Araxi continues to raise the culinary bar in Whistler. The winning contestant will have the added privilege of joining executive chef James Walt in welcoming the world during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Gloria is not on this season there is a new sous chef Heather

For real? The only one who we know can cook is Robert and even that's up for debate. What a riot! A Scotsman versus a loud mouth Southy punk? Ramsay would kick that Bostonian into tomorrow. Adios Louie, glad we didn't get to know you. From now on I'm pounding tequilla with my french toast.

This season looks like a total trainwreck. It seems some of the cheftestants came on the show just to be able to say "I stood up to Gordon Ramsay," rather than to cook. Love it.

I'm happy Robert is back... I really loved him last year. But if he came back, why didn't Ji?

Joseph seemed to go off for no reason! I mean really? He also reminds me of Harry Connick Jr. a little

And I might be the only one, but I am NOT happy that Robert is back. I think the only reason he made it so far last season is because there was always someone else screwing up worse than he was and he comes across as very obnoxious in his interviews.

This season looks to be very entertaining to say the least!

I agree with you Beer. Ji had the most promise (at that stage) of anyone on the show. Plus, her medical issue resolved itself- it doesn't look like Robert actually tried to lose weight or improve his medical condition since the last season.

I also have to wonder about the casting for this show. I've never trained as a chef, although I have cooked my fair share of meals. But I don't think that I could do the line work. However, these yahoos auditioned for this show (allegedly), so that have to know what's expected. Hmm - scallops for appetizers? That shouldn't be new - its on every SEASON! Risotto? SAME! What we haven't seen is the burned beef wellington's yet, but every season Ramsay goes off on someone who can't cut (or cook) lamb.

If you really had some culinary training, (and I am excluding the Chris Kattan character), don't you think you would, oh, I don't know, maybe PRACTICE MAKING THE STANDARD RECIPES??? Sorry guys, I know I am preaching to the choir here, but geez, it's almost like they picked the worse cooks they could possibly find. And Louie? How much did they pay him to take a dive with biscuits and gravy (which I personally love - but would never dream of serving in a Gordo- restaurant)?

Okay, but I'm hooked. Ramsay's already gone ballistic, we have a two psycho idiots whose first reaction is to threaten to beat the crap out of anyone who dares question them (PLEASE keep them around so that JP/Scott/Heather can call their bluff- you know both those guys are just blow-hard bullies). We have cluelessness, incompetence, and maybe, just maybe, two or three people who can actually cook. And we have Cherie stepping up for recaps, the first of which was EXCELLENT! That's one recapper who knows how to serve up some tasty screen caps (including the most ridiculous TVE face - from Melinda - since the Grinch stole Christmas).

Finally, there's all of you tvgasmers - and can't wait to see your thoughts on this train wreck of a cooking brigade.

Holy Snikes, I just watched the opening episodes today and it was way more drama than I was expecting. First that Texan dude got into it with J.P. (Don't disrespect the Belgian!) and Joseph wants to fight Gordon over a question?

I'm so glad I've never worked in a restaurant kitchen, those people are crazy. lol.

And I was so happy that that girl (Miranda?) was eliminated in the first half, she had the crazy eyes.

LOL! I love it- and you're right. It's the same stuff every year, so why don't they practice?? It's unbelievable (and hilarious). But if they did, why would we watch? The only reason I tune in is to watch Ramsay lose his shit every week.

My absolute favorite Gordon Ramsay moment EVER happened in this show. When he was pulling all that pasta out of the trash, he kept saying "Oh my God! LOOK!" Each time he said it, his voice got higher and higher and higher, and I thought he really was going to finally give himself a coronary. I'm a little tipsy right now, but I am sitting here giggling just thinking about it agauin .

I hope JP slaps someone this year. I was really surprised that the little guy had it in him, but I was proud of him.

It's about time Lovely is gone...I thought she was going to float along like Lacey did last season.

Was it just me or were the guys super annoying last night? All that yelling was annoying. Robert came across as a bully the way he was yelling at Andy and since Andy didn't yell back Robert just got louder...who does he think he is Chef Ramsey?

It was funny to see all those B-list or even C-list actors/actresses? The only thing funny about Tom Green was that it said he was a comedian and he was sooo not funny-imho.

I ain't no loser!!! I'm a winner!! Damn it!!! Robert finally made it to my last fuggin' nerve. Robby Bag O' Donuts needs to hit the road. However far he got last year is irrelevant now and he's totally sucking wind this season. Ramsey better not be giving Bigguns the free pass. Lovely had to go. She was pretty damn useless but I loved when G completely punked the know it all chick when she asked for a recap of events. I don't find myself nearly annoyed of the show at this point compared to last year. Seems to be more entertaining but that's just one man's opinion. NOW FUCK OFF TO BED!!!!

I unfortunately have to agree with you guys on Robert - he is not impressing me this season. There are a few that are starting to break out. Kevin (on two bad ankles), Sabrina and Ariel so far look like the class of this group. Van - maybe. He can cook, but he's got to keep it under control.

I think either Tek or Jim will be the next to go. They are the only ones left who have no formal education in cooking, and they are definitely having trouble keeping up.

Interesting note on the bios. Tenille (the Whoppi girl) had gastric bypass and lost 100 lbs. Maybe she should talk to Robert.

I'm not liking Whoopi too much. She kind of scream-talks in her interviews and has had a fuck-up in every episode so far, but to hear her tell it, the rest are hacks...and she's PASSIONATE about cooking. Ugh, how many more times are we going to have to hear that?

Robert was really mad at himself, but he made himself out to look like as big a douche as soldier boy that wanted to fight Ramsay. Guess he didn't have anything to binge on so he took it out on the broom?

Well we get to hear her scream-talks for at least another week. I actually agreed with her last night, I dont' think she deserved to be up for elimination. She was not the worst. I know she's performed poorly in the past but so has Amanda.

Glad Tek is gone. I think it's funny when contestants are leaving and they say "I didn't even get to show Ramsay how I can really cook." Well, hello, when were you going to? You've been there what 3 weeks and you are in a competition.

I like Ariel & Kevin, hopefully they'll be the final 2!

That was a serious butt-whoopin' last night. Not that Kevin's injury isn't too debilitating but the dude with the broken wrist powered through. Tek screwing up with the steaks was tough to watch; it's like she just completely ignored all the good advice she was getting from her mates.

(Ugh, I am so mad I had this nice little piece written up about tonight’s episode and my internet just shut-down! Now I have to see if I can remember my brilliance (j/k) )

So, I cannot believe the audacity of Tennile. Does she not remember what happened to what's his name, Joseph? Was he not told to leave for doing pretty much the very same thing to Ramsey? I mean did she think she was going to gain Ramsey’s respect? These people drive me crazy! They signed up for this show to put up with this crap so why they think they are above it is beyond me.

I am glad Sabrina did not go home. Yes, she had a bad service but at least she was trying and has some passion for cooking. Unlike Jim & Andy. Either of them could have gone home and I'd have been happy. Jim does just tend to stare off into to space with that vacant look, again, not helping your case Jimmy boy.

Also, I am not a big fan of Robert but I was surprised to see him go the hospital AGAIN. At first I was like you've got to be kidding me. This guy can't compete and when he is, he's not the greatest so quit giving him chances! I mean I really do feel bad he had to go the hospital, but what was he thinking riding that bike? I'd say blame the producers or the medical staff for not stepping in to say hey maybe it's not such a great idea for him ride that bike uphill. People can hurt themselves and are always told to seek medical advice before they start exercise. Well hello, Robert has a known problem (that we found about during last season) and now he needs to ride a bike uphill? Probably not smart. I'm sure the other guys would have been annoyed at first but then they would have been glad to the have the extra weight off the bike. I realize it is part of the task/punishment and he signed up for it when he agreed to be on the show but you need to stand up for yourself! Instead the guys were down a man at dinner service (which didn't matter it just made it even with the ladies) and now they really have reason to want him gone; whereas, before they might have just been pissed for about 10min that he didn't ride the bike. He would have definitely done better than Jim or Andy.

Sorry if I went off there...thanks. ;)

The guys sucked ass this week without Robert, but the dude should have never rode that bike. I was waiting for him to have that heart attack... weren't you all?

Whoopi's meltdown was good TV & Ramsey loves that shit. It's good for ratings. as long as it doesn't get physical, he loves to have face to face fights with these people. The reason that other dude got canned is because he wanted to get physical with him.

coming soon to Hell's Kitchen Season 7: ROBERT!!

When Tenille told Ramsay "You're crap!!," I think my jaw hit the floor. On one hand I was happy that somebody finally stood up to the big bully, on the other I was like "oh noooooo," because I just knew Ramsay was going to go apeshit. Good times.

ScotyUtah

Ramsey was right in sending Jimmy-boy packing. I mean lets be serious; if you know the show just a little bit a couple things you should always take away if you're going to be a participant is 1) Know how to properly cook risotto and 2) know how to season risotto. How fuggin' hard is that?

shantigal
08-19-2009, 08:14 AM
You know, I try not to judge people....(just made myself laugh with that one.) Apparently, cooking and seasoning risotto is difficult, since there is at least one chef, every week, that has trouble with it. Same for scallops.

I felt bad for Tenille and thought she was a goner when she pulled that shit. You could just see her deflating with each berating from Ramsay. I don't think I could have kept my compsure under those circumstances. And she was right, she did not abandon her team, HE kicked her out.

I've never worked in a pro kitchen before, waitress duties only.
Anyone have experience as a line cook or chef? Is it really that intense back there?

ScotyUtah
08-19-2009, 10:35 AM
Nah, cooking risotto isn't difficult if you know anything about time, which apparently these morons don't. I could see fucking up a scallop from time to time because the window of "perfection" is very small. Ramsey has the luxury to nitpik when things get slow. Some of the times he's busting balls in part because he can be super critical about the food not being perfect and part to create chaos. I have some line cook experience from way back in the day but it doesn't resemble anything with what goes on here. I suppose when you get to the luxury restaurant level the chefs do have massive egos and can become abrasive. Have you ever read Kitchen Confidential? If you believe everything Bourdain says then yes, it is that intense back there.

Poor Robert - as one of the posters mentioned above.. why hasn't he taken care of himself after last years heart problem.. I am sorry but 1st thing would be to get some weight OFF !
I was glad not to see Sabrina go home, because it was because of her that they one the day at the beach.

Also, I am curious..anyone know what actually is the grand prize ? I mean I know they win executive chef at these restaurants, but I really doubt they are that. And what happened with Heather coming back ? Did she suck so bad that she was removed from the restaurant and now doing the show ?

MelBell
08-19-2009, 11:08 AM
I know it's been said numerous times but if these contestants know anything about the show they would know they need to know how to cook risotto & beef wellington (although we haven't really seen it much this season). Well I was bored last night and did a quick youtube search and guess what I found videos of Chef Ramsay cooking both of those foods. How hard would it be for some people to try and do a bit of research? Then again it would be far less entertaining, so maybe it's best if they don't know too much ahead of time?!?!

Pyper, I read an article not long ago (which I can't find now) that provided updates on all the HK winners. They all went on to work in their restaurants for the 1 year contract, but not many stayed beyond that time frame, and most of them were not actually the head chef at the establishment. Danny, last year's winner, is still at Borgata as executive SOUS chef, and no one else is still at the job they won. It didn't say why.

TV Cart

Doesn't surprise me that most of them aren't still with the restaurants. And I think their titles were something like Executive Chef, not Head Chef, or whatever the titles are.

But they were paid $250,000 for the year they worked (I believe).

silly question what about the customers who never get thier food? Do they actually pay for thier meals or is it first come first serve and if you are lucky to get a table that you are not paying for you may get to eat or you may not.

It is luck and you have to know someone. you don't pay.. and I have found it difficult to watch as the seasons go on that some of the nitwits who actually get in decide they want to be part of the 'Show'.. like the 40 y/o women who march up plate in hand to yell at CHEF in the window.. they are asking for it but I still wish they would just go away.

I make risotto and it takes me FOREVER and a day.. about 40 minutes to cook enough liquid into the grain to make it soft enough to eat. I should watch Ramsay do it because I know it shouldn't take that long.. and about 6 cups of stock per two cups of stuff.

Anyone think that FOX/Ramsay/producers just brought Robert back as comic relief? No one seriously thought this guy had/has a chance at becoming an executive chef, right? Kind of insulting to us viewers. I would understand if he actually was funny or added something to the show. His reign was a waste of time. Surely there's a qualified candidate out there who can actually cook and work under pressure.

When Andy cut his frickin' fingers on that slicer/dicer thingy, I got all icky feeling right thru me to my bones. I've cut myself on the slicer before & it's sooo tramatic!!! Awful awful awful!!!

Loved Dan with the broken arm kickin' ass in the kitchen. Go Dan go!!!

I think you mean Dave, but I am with you...GO Dave! I got the same feeling when Andy cut his fingers. I took off my nail when I was using a peeler and it killed.

It's about time Andy got the boot. I loved Ramsey's voice-over at the end when he said (about Andy) "he's had good moments and bad, unfortunately most of them were bad" or something like that.

Honestly, Tennille is just as obnoxious as Suzanne. Remember Tennille the first few weeks sucked big time and now Suzanne is having a crappy couple of weeks. In no way am I saying I like Suzanne...I just don't like Tennille either.

And is just me or are the girls getting the lamest rewards this season? I mean they went to the beach and then to a French restaurant with a mime! I mean the guys got to go up in planes and to Las Vegas! Lame-o.

Me too!! I hope he ends up winning it all. Although, I'm kind of worried about the preview for next week... :unsure2:

My DVR cut off at the end...what's supposed to happen??!?! I hope Ariel, Kevin & Dave survive...they are my favorites.

The previews showed that Dave hurts himself more next week during service. He said in voiceover that he may have to drop out of the competition.

lol. . .i DO mean Dave. . .they get on to me for doing that at work too. typing what i'm seeing instead of what I know i know i should be. sorry Dave. :) hopefully he'll be able to superman through whatever inury it is though.

And I know that Tenille is not the best, but the editing the first couple of weeks seemed to show that a lot of her teams failures was because they just seemed to blow off her attempted contributions. :) however, if she did take my solution. .she'd be kicked from the show, taking both of them out. so, both annoying people out of the way. i'm really only rooting for dave and van. van only cause he's just so random. i have no clue what he's doing there. and except for the night with the plastic-wrapped fish, he's been doing pretty well. i think it'd be funny for him to make it to finals just for the irony. and the fact that JP doesn't seem to like him.

By the looks of it he burns his good hand!! Here's the only preview I could find. It's at the end of the episode so you will have to wait until it loads.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6rD04J-w4E&feature=PlayList&p=2E854C772F9411E1&index=44
Although, now that I watch it again I'm convinced that there's been some excellent editing going on and that Dave will in fact be okay. *crosses fingers*

Oh Lord! Dave just has to make it to the end. If he has to leave because of injury, I'll be pissed!

If Dave doesn't make it until the end I will stop recapping forever! I am now calling him The One Armed Wonder because sheesh he does it all and never complains. He still has no personality but damn that boy can cook. Corpseface Andy is just all sweaty and stupid and has nothing but excuses and yet week after week he stays! I don't get it. I think Ramsay's losing it!

I'm so happy Dave tuffed it out & got back to work last night. I'm a litle pissed that Van got sent home. I was liking him even though he couldn't cook fish for crap.

I love my Tennille.... when Chef Ramsay said she cooked the best meat, I melted a little bit. Tennille seems to have sous chef thing down: she actually proved she can run a kitchen. I can see her and Dave in the finals. Like last season, if that's the case, it will be a close toss-up, which is infiintely more interesting than Christina v. Petrozza or Rock v. the blonde chick!

Here's hoping, like all reality programs before them, that HK does an all-stars season. I'd like to know what happened to Julia and if cooking school improved her skills. (That is my one problem- that's the dangling storyline for all these years that has yet to be resolved. I need closure!)

I loved loved loved Julia during her season and actually had a few tears when Ramsey offered to send her to culinary school. All that was totally erased with the snit fit and failure to help during the last serving because she felt it should have been her.

Why is Heather even there? At least Gloria, who I miss, had equal airtime with Scott. You never see Heather helping the chefs while Scott seems like he is constantly riding them backing up Ramsey....When GR walked out there was Scott right beside him but Heather was nowhere to be seen.

Hey Cherie - love the recaps BTW!

Gotta agree about Dave - he is very cool and reserved, but you had to love him "shusshing" Suzbland after the "you taste it, now make it" challenge. That showed me he understands that you have to lay low a a bit. Suzbland is totally useless - and talk about someone getting along on "yak" alone! Time for her to go.

It was too bad that Van left - but he really hadn't had a good service for a while. I think he can cook (unlike Suzbland). Whoopi has grown on me, but still don't think she has the background to be "head chef" (whatever that term means in Ramsay-world) in an upscale restaurant.

You also have to love Ramsay telling the guys to "stop laughing" at the girls for the "you go clean the pig sty" punishment. Yeah, right Gordo - you know you were laughing inside too!

I think it's going to come down to Dave, Ariel or Kevin. Ariel's had just one mental lapse - but otherwise been strong.

Haha. I laughed so hard when he shushed her. What a big mouth she has. It's almost as distracting as her eyebrows.... almost.

And that's who I think the top 3 will be as well. As much as I love Dave and his monotone personality, I'd be happy to see Ariel or Kevin take it.

But seriously, if Whoopi keeps yelling at the tv when she 'talks' I'm going to lose it!

My favorite two are Kevin and Dave...I am in agreement with y'all...Dave's monotone personality just makes me smile! The kid sounds like he's stoned when he speaks, and yet he says halfway intelligent things, and really knows his way around the kitchen. He has a great work ethic!

Kevin, on the other hand, has a this quiet sense of leadership. I sense that he could run a kitchen (sans Ramsey-style yelling) while earning the respect of his employees.

Dave really deserves to win. He rarely gets called out for messing up (although that could just be the edit?) and he does as much as everyone else with only one hand. If Ramsey boots him off for his hand this late in the game, Dave should be PISSED. If he was going to kick him outdue to injury, he should have done it long ago.

DAVE... the One-Armed Chef has WON!!!!

I am so happy to see Dave win. He truly was the best chef the whole season. I don't think I can remember Ramsey ever giving him hell for anything during service, except when it came to his arm.

This is the first season that the 2 finalists didn't get to design their own space in the restaurant. I wonder why?

....and no sign of Tennille? Wtf was up with that?

I'm so so so happy for Dave!
It was so neat to see all the people who contribute to Vancouver's cousine (since I'm from the surrounding area). And a visit to Araxi is definitely on the agenda the next time I'm in Whistler.

I know! I was really shocked by this.

I'm glad Dave won-- he deserved it for putting up with all that shit while sporting a broken wrist.

Venison is always the way to go. Dave deserves the victory hands (or should I say "hand") down. I get the feeling he's really going to take advantage of the reward and make it big. Seems very earnest. Now what do I have to do to get a venison chop over here?

I am SO happy that Dave won!!!! What a great finale.
I too found it interesting that Tenille wasn't involved...I wonder if she had just had enough or if the producers had had enough of her talk-yelling.

Did anyone else catch those clips of Chef Ramsey imitating that hot head (I'm no one's bitch!)? It was hilarious! He told Kevin and Dave that they were in the final two, so they were no one's bitch!

I was happy that Dave won as well, but I would have been happy with either Kevin or Dave. I thought both could run a kitchen. I thought it was a good move by Dave to "keep it simple" on the menu - especially with the potential "brigade" that was going to show up. I have only watched the last three seasons, but it always seems like the producers give the final two a "mixed bag" for the brigade - if for no other reason than to introduce some good tv. Watching Amanda being replaced on every station was pretty priceless.

It was interesting the bits with Ramsay after the credits - there was a lot more funny stuff going on than shown through the editing.

Oh my god. I was laughing so hard when he put on an American accent and said that. I think I watched it 5 times! And I can't stop saying it to my friend Nina.
