So does anyone give a shit that Paula has left the show? First of all, I'm not convinced this is the last we've heard on this. Maybe Paula has called their bluff and the producers will eventually cave and/or Paula will go crawling back for less money than her "bottom line", whatever that was.
If she doesn't come back, I don't think I'll miss her at all. Her whole "butterflies and rainbows" and "you looked beautiful" schtick has become really played out. They should get rid of Randy too while they're at it. That guy is like a animatron that spits out one of his 5 catch phrases when you pull the string. I'd rather have just two judges and hear more from Kara and of course Simon, or maybe the two of them and a rotating guest judge, provided it someone with the balls to tell someone if they sucked.

That would be the best scenario for us viewers, which means it will not happen. I look for an internet petition or twitter or something like that, to bring Paula back.

Ditto! I love the idea of a rotating 3rd judge. I was initially sad about the Paula announcement, but she really doesn't add anything of value, so fuck her. I, too, will be really surprised if this isn't just a play for more money, though, and she's not back next year. Really, REALLY surprised.

Can you believe it!! They just hired Ellen DeGeneres as the 4th judge on American Idol. Wow! They must have paid her some big bucks to do this job.
Ellen: “I’m thrilled to be the new judge on AMERICAN IDOL. I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”

This will make me watch Idol again. I'm not even kidding.

I looooooove Ellen! I'm glad she'll be on the show, but I'm not really sure what constructive criticism she can provide to the contestants. Paula was the one who had been there/ done that, so despite her kookiness, she provided real value and a measure of credibility to the show (even though her behavior sort of shot her credibility out the window). It will be interesting to see if Ellen can do anything besides rave about every performance like she did on SYTYCD... but then again, that's all Paula really did on Idol anyway. So I guess Ellen will fill the void as "the nice one."
I really can't wait to hear what our resident Idol junkie/ expert JasonR thinks!

Do you suppose she brought killer ratings to SYTYCD? That's the only way this weird casting makes sense. Don't get me wrong -I love Ellen, but this is just weird.
Than again - I guess she can judge from the perspective of being a music listener / buyer.

Im with you Jason, I dont think this is the last we've seen of Paula but, im not gonna lie, Im not sad to see her go. All last season she drove me crazy cuz she never gave ANY criticism. She basically got paid to sit and tell everyone what a "beautiful person" they were......
I am VERY excited about Ellen being the next judge and I absolutely cannot WAIT to see her and Simon go at it. Shes definitely going to give him a run for his money. I'm sure she already has a TRILLION tight shirt jokes just WAITING to be let out lol :D
What do I think as far as what she has to offer the show? Shes been in the entertainment business for HOW LONG?! American Idol has pretty much (IMO) turned into a popularity contest, and I think Ellen could be "the nice one" but could also challenge who they are as ENTERTAINERS. You can have a great voice, but if you get up on stage and have no stage presence you're dead in the water

The only difference between Ellen and Paula is that Ellen will be intentionally funny.
