View Full Version : Episode 9/13/06
Hi guys, so what did you think? Halfway through the show, I correctly guessed the Aufweidesees (no real genius since it was prolly evident from the start). I liked many of the outfits and I agreed with the choices. I also liked the 'twist', altho I can imagine why the contestants wouldn't. I'll wait til tom'ro in case the West Coasters are checking the boards!
I think my favorite part of the episode was the look on Angela's face when she had to open her model's purse to reveal a huge pile of extra fabric. Classic! I liked Laura's dress except for the fringing on the bottom. I'm glad she finally won a challenge, but Michael's was once again my favorite. If for some reason, he doesn't make it to the final 3, I'm going to be really pissed.

I was very sad to see Kayne go, but I think we all knew that he was going to be auf'ed. I loved Laura's dress, I could have still very easily picked out as a Laura but it was fun and young and designed for someone other than herself, and I am glad that she won.
Michael- This guy is amazing I don't think I have seen the same dress from him twice. And bless his heart for talking to Kayne and he was so nice about it unlike some other people that shall remain (Jeff) nameless.
The other dresses well I don't even want to comment on them but I will make a suggestion to the judges for next season. They need to get down in the designers early and warn them about making the same dress over and over again and let them know that could be a reason to get auf'ed. They are freakin' designers be creative and different.
And just because I can't resist, I loved Uli's line 'The party's over' it had me cracking up. And Angela and Vincent have to be two of the most delusional people in the world.

I thought Laura's dress was pretty, but I don't think the material was young. The cut was, though, so I guess that's what counts. And of course having a young, beautiful, thin model wearing it didn't hurt!
I'm adoring Michael more and more every week. I didn't really like his dress last night personally, but I can see it was a good design for other women.
Uli bores me now. There's nothing to even say about her dress that wasn't said last week and the week before, etc. I fear she won't make it to finals and that Jeff will.

That was a lame-ass episode. UGH. The rationale was that PR wanted to make sure that the best 3 make it to Fashion Week. Good Idea. So they brought back anyone who had won previously even if they had been auf'ed. This is where I have a problem -- they were auf'ed for a reason. They SUCKED. So it seems to me that all PR did was assure themselves and the Judges that they INDEED did make the right decisions. What a waste of Mood's fabric, Collier's makeup and my time!
So thumping my foot!
Kayne you needed to be set free...there are Proms and Pageants waiting for your bedazzler ~
Laura - Congrats and glad to see those horomones aren't bothering you one little bit ( ).
Michael - You are so smooth...Can't wait to see a whole line of your work.
Uli - Love your one note but I do not want to see 13 of them in a row on a runway. Sorry.
Jeffery - that leaves me with you. I want to see you Fashion Week...I want to see you get your hopes up....High...the higher the better....( iam so evil)...and go out in the Santino style - embarrasing yourself and your family.

i really thought they were gonna get rid of uli tonight, esp after michael made fun of her in a horrible fake accent about where she used to live and thats why she made this dress.
when michael said, "i made a white dress because black people just look good in white." i was dying.
I liked Laura's dress, but I ddn't think it was 'young', namely b/c of the sleeves---what young person wants to wear sleeves to a cocktail party? About the only young thing it had going for it was the length. I liked the fabric, but I ddn't like the bottom either---perhaps it looked prettier in person b/c it ddn't come thru on TV. In any case, I'm glad she won this one, especially since she was feeling so down, I felt a li'l sorry for her in this episode---I wondered if the pregnancy hormones might've were partly responsible for her blue mood? She was prolly doubly tired & drained & that smtms makes u feel bummed.
Loved Michael's dress! It wouldn't suit me, but it certainly worked on his model, looked lovely, everything about it.
Vincent's dress, like most of his other dresses, was awful, boring to boot. Fabric & fit (tho not entirely his fault) were awful. Same with Angela---BTW, did anyone catch when she said 'THANK GRAVY they gave me another chance'---um, 'gravy'? that's a new one for me. Her outfit was awful as usual.
Uli's was pretty, ddn't like the sleeves, but i liked some of the detail up top, the black trim atop the pattern. the necklace? not so much.
Jeff's dress was ugly as hell!! Cheap, slutty-looking---and when he ddn't lose, he ran into the dressing room & flipped everyone off---what a prick. Hate him, every time he talks i feel anger.
Poor Kayne---I enjoyed him on the show but I guess it was going to happen sooner or later---this dress was OK, not too absurd, but rather too simple & boring. I liked the back, it was diff't.
I predict the final three will be Michael, Laura & Jeff (not my choices, but what i'm guessing the judges & producers want).

Oh Honeybunny, EVERYTHING in your comment was thoroughly enjoyable, so dead-on!! thanks. Luv the Jeff bit (MWAAHAHHAHA!!)
i actually wasn't that bothered by the 2 returning losers bit---I thought perhaps they did it as filler b/c of Keith's early exit, the producers still needed to provide a certain no. of episodes, etc. Maybe not, but it seemed to (rightly) rattle & challenge the existing contestants, put a li'l fire under their butts, so I sort've welcomed it, hoping it would lead to good things from them.

HB, I agree completely! What they should have done - it would have been so much more exciting - is let the viewers decide which two designers were auf'd too early and could come back for one more try. Did you see that over 80% on the PR poll wanted to see Allison come back? I would have LOVED to give her and the girl who designed a hoodie for her dog get a second chance.
Laura was killing me last night. I realize your hormones are raging but you need to develop a MUCH thicker skin if you're going to work in fashion. Kayne and Jeffrey were ripped new ones every other week and they weren't crying about it.
Viva la Michael! He is the best!!! Not just his style, which is impeccible but he is also the nicest with the least annoying personality by far.

i kind of wish that jeffrey had gotten the boot last night (even though i know it would never happen because they have been setting kayne up for weeks now) but his outfit was nasty! who would wear that to a cocktail party really??? those stockings he made with the extra fabric made his model's legs look like big fat black shiny sausages! so not cute!
loved loved loved michael's dress! vincent's dress definitely did NOT "get me off"! what was the deal with angela's vampire shrug thingy? i liked how heidi was like, "yeah those can be cute... when other people make them". SLAM! i am so over Uli already. i think the final three should be MICHAEL, LAURA, and JEFFREY! i dont think i could watch 13 of Uli's floaty, beachy, miami inspired dresses!!
all that hype about laura designing for the olsen twins. i knew there was a reason that bravo let that one slip!

I loved Uli's dress, I loved Laura's dress. I'd wear either one of them (well, I would have 5-10 years and 10-20 pounds ago!). And I disagreed with the judges about the sleeves on Uli's dress, FWIW, I thought that they were terrific longer. Shorter was fine, too. But I have a few tops with longer sleeves like that, and I like them.
Really didn't like Michael's dress at all. I was surprised that the judges did. He's such a likeable guy, but I've liked hardly ANYTHING that he's done so far. I don't see them as 'edgy' or 'street', just as being badly designed [/ducks to avoid tomatoes].
I hate that they brought Angela and Vincent back. Glad that they both stunk up yet ANOTHER design and proved why they'd been auf'd in the first place. Why do shows do that? Survivor's done it, and I hated it then, too.
Jeffrey. What a hideous creation, I was dying for him to be auf'd, particularly if it meant that they kept Kayne. Kayne's taste might be questionable, but I can think of at least two of his designs that I've adored so far (the Marilyn Monroe dress and his Couture dress) and that's more than I've liked of Jeffrey's. The judges are clearly so biased against Kayne...and that only confirms my thinking that the judges shouldn't know who designed which outfit, because then they've got more of a shot of judging the outfits fairly.
The judges were SO right about Vincent's dress, BTW. Why was he carrying on so much about having too much fabric left over when he'd clearly used so little (much TOO little) on the skirt? He used more fabric on the scarf than he did on the whole outfit!

My sentiments exactly HB. I can't wait for Jeffery to get auf'd at the end. Even though he's such a shithead and makes me mad every week it will be worth it to see his hopes and ego crushed at the end.
I really like Uli, but like everyone else I am sick and tired of the same freaking dress coming down the runway every week. She showed a bit of versatility last week with the solid color. Now try doing a different cut.
Michael is definitely my favorite. He's got that shy-too-cute-for-words guy thing going for him.
I think the reason why it was Vincent and Angela that came back is becasue they were the last two eliminated. I would have liked to see Malan or Allison or even Andy Milinokis (K&A have forever ruined her real name for me) get another shot.

A recent article named one of the finalists, who was "outed" while spending an allotted $8,000 on fabric at Mood for the final collection challenge. Four people are going to Fashion Week, but one is just a decoy to throw off the media.

Here's the text messages I got last night:
Uli Text: "I would have felt better about bringing designers back if it would have been better designers - but it was the 2 worst designers we had there!"
 Too true, Uli.
Kayne Text: "I actually misunderstood part of the challenge in that we needed to use black and white FABRIC. I thought white trim would be enough."
Jeff Text: "I actually liked what Vincent made - I thought it was classic. It was better than what Michael made which I didn't like at all."
I'll post these weekly!!

Thx, Krizz! Kayne, whom I loved dearly, must be trying to cover his ass---as a designer, what part of 'must use black and white FABRIC' did he misunderstand???!!
I agree w/ Uli! Ah, Jeff's comment confirm my suspicions about him: that he checked his good taste at the door a long time ago----to have made the ugly outfit that he did AND liked Vincent's dress?? double-ugh!

He must be trying to cover his ass because Angela specifically asked Tim that question. I don't have her exact quote at hand and I don't Tivo, but it was something to the effect of : Tim, do we have to use both or can we do all black or all white. Tim's response was something to the effect of you have to use both colors.
And here is a random question in this or any other challenge if a designer came up short or had too much fabric can s/he give it to another designer? There was the case of Robert taking Vincent's brown stuff for the Jackie Kennedy experiment. So why couldn't say Michael have given his extra white to Kayne for him to do a trim around the complete dress to tie in the ribbon? I don't know that it would have helped but it is something to make you go hmmmm.

Jenny is right - last year it was Kara as the 4th. They get to design and show at Fashion Week but it's not on the show itself. Kinda sucks for that person but at least they get to have their line shown to a live audience.

Whawha, thanks for not saying who the finalists were. I would rather find out next week, even though I'm pretty sure it will be Michael, Laura, and Jeffrey. Uli has been so predictable. The only thing that didn't have a plunging braided neckline was the outfit she made for Kayne's mom. And hey, did you know that Uli lives in Miami? And she likes to design for hot weather? Didn't know if you had heard that or not...

I obviously share his questionable taste level because every week I liked what Kayne made.
I loved Laura's dress, I would definately wear it.
So sick of Uli.
And like everyone else, Love Michael and hate Jeffrey.
I can't understand how they can question Kayne's taste but Jeffrey's outfit last week just about gave us a cooter shot. This week's outfit looked like something I would've put together at age 9 in front of my bedroom mirror with a leotard, baggy belted sweatshirt, legwarmers and my mom's high heels.

I love Michael and love Jeffie. They're two sides of the same coin. Both have a design sensibility and both are artists. It's like acknowledging that both Edward Hopper and Coop are artists. Both are vastly different. Both have their detractors and boosters. Just different tastes.

you're rite!! i'd forgotten about that but you're absolutely right, which begets the question even more, which part of 'must use both B & W fabrics' did he not understand? oh Kayne, poor thing, I'll miss him. that thot crossed my mind, too, but nobody seem to even suggest it which makes me think they were specifically instructed not to share. (b/c then it would've been cheating?) I thot it was a silly rule, tho, to have them use up all the fabric.

I agree with everything you said, but the part about Santino--his showing was very well received, even Tim loved his new designs---I think Chloe embarrassed herself and upholsterers everywhere with the couches she sent down the runway---but thats so last year---on to last night:
Def. should have let the viewers choose the two to return, according to tim's podcast Keith would have returned but he was ineligible--- if I was a designer and saw those two whacks walk in i would have been so pissed. especially about angela and her group win.
I agree with moost everyone I think-
Laura=great, and I loved that her dress had little sleeves, (don't like to show my upper arms)
Uli- wake me up when she decides to make something besides variations of the same dress
Michael:fabulous
Jeffrey:ridiculous
Kayne: sad to see him, but not really his designs, go.

Now Uli: I'm waiting for the Boca Raton opening of her store--Flowin' Frocks R Us!Hey, I wish! I'd be the first in line :p I love her fabrics, her style, her 'vision' ( [/judgespeak]).
Honestly, though, it seems to me that the judges will credit one person for having a distinct vision, and yet criticize someone else for the same thing! That drives me crazy about PR... on some level, Uli's staying true to her style and vision, and yet the judges don't fully appreciate or like it, so they comment on it negatively. Whereas Jeffrey gets praised for having his vision/style and sticking to it (Heidi's comments regarding his hideous dress for Angela's mom is one example). That irritates me!

So they brought back anyone who had won previously even if they had been auf'ed. This is where I have a problem -- they were auf'ed for a reason. hb
One of Tim's podcasts noted that last year when they took away immunity, it resulted in the designers not trying hard enough to win, just hard enough to not be out, so they brought back immunity on some of the challenges. I like the theory of bringing people back - that if they were good enough to win one maybe they just got auf'd on a bad week - but the way it worked out with Vincent and Angela it looked VERY gimmicky. Not to mention, what if someone had won the first challenge and gotten auf'd by like the third...then they skip all those challenges and have a chance to get back in? Great theory, bad execution.
I wondered if the pregnancy hormones might've were partly responsible for her blue mood?
I'm sure hormones had something to do with it, but mostly I can't imagine being pregnant and not having someone (ie, husband) around to take care of you when you have a rough day or your ankles are swollen. Poor thing.
I thot it was a silly rule, tho, to have them use up all the fabric.
I actually REALLY liked this rule...it was a great way to make them be creative without just having to say over and over and over again: be creative!

I liked the twist this week, just because it mad Jeff angry. Anything they do that will upset Mr. InkNeck is OK by me. I hope they make him work w/Angela sometime during fashion week. That would be awesome!
Loved Michael's dress, I feel he was robbed for the third time. (The first time was his coffee filter dress, the second time the outfit he made for himself). I thought Laura's dress was just alright, I didn't understand why the judges were so excited, but at least it wasn't a high waisted skirt with a plunging neckline. The outfits by Jeff, Vincent, and Angela were all equally hideous. And Kayne's dress was pretty blah. But I will miss him on the show, he was such a sweetie w/a side of bitch thrown in.
Did anyone else hear Vincent calling himself a genius at the end of the show? I nearly choked on my popcorn I was laughing so hard.

I thought the twist was kind of a waste. I mean, the challenge Angela won was a group effort...and if it wasn't for Michael and Laura, there would have been rosettes all over the pants...
I loved Michael's dress. I would totally wear that. Laura's was alright. Not sure it should have won, but she needed the confidence booster.
Jeffrey's looked like something I would have worn back in the late 80s...and not to a party....

I was so sad to see Vincent and Angela walk in. To give them a chance and possibly evict two of the remaining designers - bad idea! Both of them lasted long after they should have. I get a shiver up my spine whenever Vincent says "that gets me off". Freaky!
Loved Michael's dress and glad to see Laura do something other than the belly button baring dresses. Uli's stuff looks all the same, not ugly just the same week after week. Jeffery's was definitely streetwalker material, not cocktail party at all. I actually liked Kayne's dress. The back was very inventive. Too bad he missed the clear directions and the answer to Angela's question and didn't buy any white fabric.
Personality-wise, I like Michael, Uli and Kayne. Jeffery is a jerk and I root for his failure. Laura has always come off as a bitch. Thank god, I'm not one of her 17.5 children!
Yay! I finally graduated to Houseguest from Fresh Meat.

Laura has always come off as a bitch.
I guess I just don't see her that way, and I tend to think that the other designers don't either because they're always very chatty and friendly and huggy with her...which indicates that they don't hate her! I always look for those things, because I think it's telling about how the designers really feel about one another, not just the edit they're getting or the words they're saying in confessionals, but how they behave towards each other when the cameras are rolling and they're working or hanging out.
Anyway...I do see where someone could dislike Laura. I just don't happen to. I like that she seems fun and go-with-the-flow (a must for a mom with that many things on her plate in life!), she speaks her mind. She's also not afraid to be vulnerable, and that was a bit surprising and flattering. She's been very forthright about the times that she screwed up ("I looked at my dress (on Jeff's mom) coming down the runway and realized that it wasn't flattering to her").
So, bitch or not (which I guess is subjective), I like Laura! She's my favorite, and I'm hoping that she wins!

My quick thoughts
Laura- She still bores me, including this dress. They're nice, pretty, but not very original. I'd still like her in the final three, but I think she'd be forced to stretch in a runway show. It sucks to be pregnant and doing this; I feel for her.
Uli- I like Uli and her eye for pattern, although I agree she's got to change it up. At least her dresses are pretty and distinctive. I'd like her in the final three. Like Laura, she'd have to stretch herself for a whole collection.
Micheal- I love Micheal. I hope he wins it all.
Jeffrey- Deplorable personality aside, I don't think he's original. He seems to be reading from the rock & roll poseur handbook of style. His cocktail dress looks like something a teenage groupie would wear while hanging around backstage, hoping the lead singer will let her give him a blow job (but in that dress she'll have to settle for the drummer). I think they let him stay because he won the last two challenges, whereas Kayne has been struggling.
I like the idea of having the designers or the audience bring people back.

 HA!! ultimate insult, luv it!
I like the idea of having the designers or the audience bring people back.
I am in agreement here---I personally would've loved to see Malan, not Angela's ratty-tat ass, nor kooky Vincent's for that matter. I would've been curious to see whom the designers thmslvs might've selected.
I'm picking Michael as my fave to win! (altho did you see EdHill's thread re) his trip to the tents? surprising comments in there....) Laura & Uli def'ly need to vary their look a little.
