Hey... This show was okay. It wasn't on my list of shows to see. But Jay Hernandez is hot. Interesting concept.
But, I do have a question... elsewhere they were talking about a cast member who has a scar - he was on a different show where they weren't sure if the scar was real? but it is. Does anyone kow who that is? Can't remember his name, sorry, but it's driving me batty trying to remember who had a scar.
Thank ya.

Ah, thank you!!
It's an interesting concept... i'm curious to see how they'll make these interactions w/each other in the future.

I actually really liked it and thought it was interesting. I like the concept but the execution is a bit weak. I'll definitely check it out. Unfortunately, I don't think the show will stick around too long...
From Zap2It.com:
Another medical drama, NBC's "ER," won the 10 p.m. hour with a 10.0/16. The premiere of "Shark" on CBS averaged 9.8/16. ABC's "Six Degrees" lost a big chunk of its lead-in to finish at 8.6/14.
It's not a good sign when you loose a significant amount of audience when your lead in show is "Grey's Anatomy" and your show falls to third place at 10:00 PM.

After the show was over I thought that it was really good and that I'd like to learn more about the characters and find out how their lives would intersect. It's three days later and I can only picture one character (the photographer) and I'm not really sure I even like him. Maybe I was just excited about the show because there was nothing else on? Or was coming down from a Grey's Anatomy high? Who knows. I'll watch it again but I'm not holding out hope that this show will make it long enough to get really good.

I think i'll watch it again tonight. the online dating guy, what a scumbag...
the blonde chick from swimfan was good, i like her...

Hardly... did you watch it? I actually thought the first episode was better; this one didn't really hold my attention that well.
I hate the online dating guy. Can't wait for him to get caught. I like the photographer but only because I'm a woman and it's in our nature to try to fix broken men. I don't know why, but in the first ep I thought the lawyer was a cop or a detective. Now I'm confused and a little bored with him. And what the hell is in the nanny's box? That should be a good little mystery.
Anyone else watch the show? Thoughts?

I watched. I think it was just as good as the first episode. They use some of the LOST sound effects, which is kinda funny....

In one word: Bored. I really liked the pilot episode but now I'm sorta bored with everyone by the 2nd episode. I sorta like the photographer... I pretty much sorta like everyone but their storylines aren't holding me. I'll give it a couple more shots though.
Zap2it Ratings
At 10 p.m., CBS' "Shark" and NBC's "ER" tied for the lead at 9.5/16, with CBS once again slightly ahead in viewers. ABC's "Six Degrees" came in at 7.3/11.
Coming in third isn't good.

So i missed an episode of desperate housewives and i went to abc.com to maybe read about what happened and found out you can watch the full episode online.
I was bored and so i decided to watch the 3 episodes on there of six degrees. I thought it was going to be sort of stupid and not catch my attention.
But surprisingly i really liked it.
Anyone else been watching it?

ER is still a great well written show. I watched this show from day one. Must admit season 2002 and 2003 stunk and did not think I would watch again. I am so glad I stuck around because this show still has it.
I have been taping "Six Degrees" but it is starting to get predicable and just OK. I think next week I will start taping Shark. If ABC wants to stick with this show they are going to need to change the time slot.

Actually, if you listen to the intro voice over, the narrator (the District Attorney dude) mentions that Whitney becomes his girlfriend in the future. So most likely, the pairings will be the DA & Whitney. And the show seems to be hinting at the Widow and the Photographer will hook up. He took her photo and the show keeps showing how he keeps missing meeting her at random times. But a lesbian rebound relationship would actually add a little spice and drama to the show... remember when Marisa was a lesbian and then she wasn't on The O.C.

So, through the wonders of Netflix, I have discovered what I believe to be the greatest show ever to have been on TV (if you couldn't tell from my avatar). I am now on Season 4 and am just floored by the characters, plots, there's really nothing I don't love about this show.
I would LOVE to discuss the show here. If I could make one request, since this is my thread, PLEASE don't spoil anything for me. I have inadvertently spoiled myself on a couple of things here and there and it's definitely affected my enjoyment.
But I would love for this to be a place to talk about the characters, episodes, whatever about the show that makes me laugh, cry, and scream more than any other so far.

And now, to tell you where I am...
I just watched the MOST AWFUL episode yet...the one where David gets carjacked and kidnapped by that piece of shit maniac who pours gasoline on him and puts the gun in mouth. I stared horrified when I thought he was going to be killed or disfigured.
I am actually a couple of episodes past that now, really...he is having trouble dealing, Keith is on tour with Buffy's sister Dawn (sorry, that's all I can think of her as), Ruth and George are having marital troubles because George is being an ass, Clair is possible becoming a lesbian with Mena Suvari, Nate is hooking up with Brenda and she just told that guy she bought the house with (my husband HATES Brenda with a burning passion), and Rico just got kicked out for his insane dealings with that stripper and he had sex with her. That's about it!
My favorites are Claire (duh!) and David. I also LOVE Keith and think Ruth is the bomb because she's so clueless it's hilarious. I like Nate but he's got so many issues I don't love him like I used to. His baby is too cute though. Keith is awesome too. Okay, now I am just babbling.

I love reading plot synapses for shows I've never seen like this - they make no sense and sound impossible and I'm sure its a great show and it would all make TV sense if I saw it, but its fun this way too :)

I HATE Brenda....
RachWho?
09-18-2007, 08:37 AM
Chooch, my husband is having serious issues because of his hate of Brenda. He really loves Nate...I think he really relates to Nate. He was so upset when Nate almost died and had the brain surgery, he was so sad about Lisa...and now it seems like Brenda and Nate are getting back together. He would be happy if an episode started out with Brenda spontaneously combusting.
I think Brenda adds something to the show...I don't love her, I don't hate her. I think she and Billy's issues were very interesting. And her mother is the most hilarious, bat-shit crazy thing ever to grace my television. I think she uses Sharon Stone as her...what's the word I'm looking for? Well, that's who her mom reminds me of.

Yay a Six Feet Under thread! So glad you like the show. The "Hey that's my dog" episode was very disturbing, I agree. S4 was probably one of my favorites, not withstanding Nate and Brenda hooking up AGAIN! Enough already. What do you think of Brenda's boyfriend Joe? I always thought he was just so normal compared to everyone else, and I liked him a lot. Plus the actor, Justin Theroux, is hot IMO :).

Seriously, I can rewatch many episodes, but "Hey That's My Dog"...there's NO WAY. What happened in that episode was so horrifying, and I just love David so much, watching him smoke crack, watching that piece of shit tear him down...that moment when it seemed like David would get away and he didn't. And the gasoline. Seriously. I really hope they find the piece of shit who did it to him, but being that this show is not hopeful and lovely like that, I suspect they won't. I'll just be glad if he doesn't come back and shoot everyone.
Joe is hot and normal and because he is normal, he is not right for Brenda. He was so sad when Brenda told him she cheated on him, I felt so bad for him. He said, "I've never liked anyone as much as you!" That was such a great, sad line. I know I've felt like that before.
Rach, I'm replying without reading beyond your first post because I'm only on season one and I don't want spoilers. Someone posted one in "The L Word" thread and it did sort of spoil it for me.
However, I am loving the show! You have some really good taste in TV, girl!

I just watched the MOST AWFUL episode yet...the one where David gets carjacked and kidnapped by that piece of shit maniac who pours gasoline on him and puts the gun in mouth. I stared horrified when I thought he was going to be killed or disfigured.
I have to confess I couldn't make it through that episode and dropped the show for a few weeks after. It was just too much for me to handle (are you getting a sense yet of the level of wuss I am for violence and terror?) I am not a fan of David's but I didn't want to see him, or anyone, go through what he went through.
It's a testament to the quality of show that it is - that I did come back, I couldn't stay away long.
I am actually a couple of episodes past that now, really...he is having trouble dealing, Keith is on tour with Buffy's sister Dawn (sorry, that's all I can think of her as)
That's who she was to me when I saw it - but how much do you love Keith? Did I ever tell you about my brush with fame - with him?
my husband HATES Brenda with a burning passion
I don't mind Brenda - but I couldn't stand her brother and still hold a grudge on him when I see him in other shows and movies. Hell he was that jerk Elton on Clueless so he was always meant for my ick pile.
I like Nate but he's got so many issues I don't love him like I used to. His baby is too cute though.
I agree - I loved Nate at first and then my feelings for him cooled tremendously. And the little girl who plays his baby is too adorable. I love that they kept using her throughout and didn't switch out to older babies.
He would be happy if an episode started out with Brenda spontaneously combusting.
That was my favorite part - seeing what creative way they would use to kill someone off each week. Some were too icky - like the girl in the limo.
I think she uses Sharon Stone as her...what's the word I'm looking for? Well, that's who her
mom reminds me of.
As her influence, guide, model...?

Why don't you like David? I love David with such a passion! Granted he started out a total prick, but that was really just because he was a repressed gay man trying to please his psycho mom. But once he came out, he is really just so caring and sweet. Now I also think that he was sort of a doormat for Keith for a while, but once he got out of that...Keith and David are my favorite couple on the show. Although there really isn't much competition there. I used to love Rico and Vanessa, but Rico screwed the pooch on that one.
Tink, your reaction to the "Hey, That's My Dog" episode was the same my husband had. He couldn't watch the rest of the episode, he was so upset by it. I had to tell him what happened. And then he couldn't watch the next episode for a couple of weeks. He was REALLY disturbed by it. As was I, but he really puts himself INTO situations he watches, and he loves this show so much, he was particularly upset by this.
Tell me about your brush with Keith. I'd like to brush with Keith! ;)

I LOVE the mom. Her outbursts crack me up every time. This is possibly my favorite line from any TV show, ever:
"CLAIRE DID YOU SET THAT FIRE?"
"What?!! No! I would never do anything like that!.....
I may have swiped that foot though."
I won't post much else for fear of being spoilerish, but 6FU is definitely one of the best shows ever made. Enjoy, Rachel. :)

I was always uncomfortable watching David and Keith have sex.... and I loved the different deadly beginnings. The guy climbing in the huge kettle to clean it and Santa on the motorcycle are both quite memorable.

Why did I hate David? Good question. I'm not entirely sure but I guess I found him to be kinda whiny. I loved Keith tho and their sex scenes didn't bug me probably because I was so swoony for Keith.
Btw, I posted my encounter on the celebrity meetings thread thingy.
Oh, I forgot about Santa on the motorcycle. What about the airplane part?
The most disturbing death was Clair's fella's little brother. :(

I don't think there is any character I hated on that show... one of the best things about it was that all the characters were so interesting, even if they were slightly annoying (LISA!!).
You know who else I loved? Arthur. He was so fucking weird. Weird people rock.

I just watched the episode where Vanessa and her bitch-ass sister went gangsta on Infiniti and beat her up and smashed her car windows. That rocked!

Oh, and Claire's not a lesbian and she's never had an orgasm. Poor thing.

I could not possibly agree more that this may be the greatest show ever. Rach, just wait until the last two or three episodes. Oh. My. God. I've seen the final episode 3 times now, and every time, I bawl like a baby. 6FU literally makes me incapable of coherent speech, I love it so much.
The "Hey That's My Dog" episode f'd me up as well. I think the reason it's so powerful is that instead of switching from character to character as most of the episodes do, we stay with David for the entire ordeal, which, IMO, makes it feel more like we're experiencing it too.
Also love the Santa on the motorcyle episode, especially the end with Nate on the guy's bike. I think all of the characters made me want to slap them at some point in the series, but by the end, I think I really understood them after seeing what they'd been through, loved them all, and was proud of the way they turned out (as lame as THAT sounds!).
Sweet lord, can you tell I never get tired of talking about this show??? I got the entire series boxed set for Christmas last year and I've been loaning it to friends and family, trying to get everyone else hooked too.

Kapowski, we just have to watch the last episode...we WEPT when Nate died. I didn't see that coming. It felt like a sock in the stomach. We just watched the next to last episode last night, and are waiting for Netflix to send us the DVD with the last ep. We are planning on watching it Thursday...then I will be back here with MUCHOS comments. It is just, without a doubt, the BEST FUCKING SHOW EVER.
Here's what's on my mind..and DON'T ANSWER MY QUESTIONS:
1) With Keith and David break up?
2) Will Claire become a raging drug addict?
3) Will Rico and Vanessa buy their own mortuary and leave the Fishers for good?
4) Will Brenda's baby die? Will she have Down syndrome? (by the way, as a genetic counselor, I could hardly stand how they handled that, as it was so non-factual and poorly counseled...)
5) Will Ruth and George stay together and raise Maya?
6) Will Billy kill everyone?

OMG we couldn't wait, Netflix sent us the final episode today and we watched it tonight and I feel like a different person. Holy fucking shit. I have loved that song they used in the final few minutes for a few years, and that was just the most beautiful set of scenes I have ever seen. I wept, of course, but it was also uplifting. And my girl Claire lived to see it all.
I know I caught a few things after a couple of viewings but the only thing I can think of right now is that David and Keith's son Anthony is gay...how fucking cute is that.
Anyway, the best fucking episode of television ever. Hands down. And the best show ever. I will buy the whole series and watch it again and again. I can't stop crying. It was the best series finale I have ever seen.

Keith's death was so sad, but it was so touching that David saw Keith young and strong right before he died.
I also loved that everyone was with Ruth when she died, and that she and George made peace.
I thought it was appropriate that Brenda died listening to Billy talk. After that many years listening to Billy go on and on, that would make anyone croak.
I am still crying. It's been hours.

Ms. Rach-
I know, I know... There, there...
It was a really sad finale. And tomorrow you will think about it, and the day after...
I have forgotten a little- but yeah- Billy literally talking Brenda to death was PERFECT!
And Claire's death was beautiful- just a little old lady- on her huge mohogany bed...
I love the song by Sia that he used, also.
I wish it was on Demand. I'd watch it again.
Did it meet your expectations?
RachWho?
11-13-2007, 07:17 PM
Oh lord it met my expectations and then some. I am just sitting here on my computer, listening to Sia, and feel so AFFECTED. I feel like someone died, but at the same time, it really was uplifting. I just can't believe it's over. I have never seen a show where they made me care this much about the characters. I feel like they were my friends. It's stupid, right...
I think one of the things is there are almost no strong, developed female characters out there. So to have people like Claire, Ruth, Sarah, Vanessa, Brenda--as flawed and fucked up as they were, they were real...and it really spoke to me.

I was kind of in a zone for awhile after I saw it too. It is just really heavy material. Death- Death- Death...
I really hadn't thought much about it, but you're right... There were a lot of strong female characters in that show. And all so likeable. And so different from one another. I don't know much about Alan Ball (the creator) but I would like to see what else he has done.
It's so cool when you just have a total viewing experience, like you just have.
I remember when I went to see Thelma and Louise in the theater (on a first date, no less)- I had to have the guy take me home right after the movie and I called in sick the next day. I just couldn't believe that they drove off that cliff! I was like shell-shocked for days. (And that is totally embarassing when I think about it now- talk about LOSER!!!)
Anyway, I'm glad you loved it!

Alan Ball wrote American Beauty, which in my opinion is one of the best movies of all time. Not very surprising that he went on to do this show after that movie. He said one of the folks at HBO wanted to do a show about a family living in a mortuary and they thought of him to write and produce. He had just lost his sister in a car accident and it was all history from there.
I remember feeling the same way after American Beautywas over...I sat in the theater with my boyfriend and said, "Can we just sit here for a minute?" I was crying, so happy and sad at the same time. Alan Ball knows how to wrap something up.

Rach, I'm SO glad you watched it! Greatest hour of television ever. I started to cry when Claire was driving away and saw Nate in her rear view mirror, then cried harder when Ruth was dying and saw Nate in the doorway of her room, then harder still when David sees Keith playing football before he dies. The last images are amazing, when they move from the closeup of dying Claire's eyes, to young Claire's eyes as she's driving down the highway, and then pan out until it's a shot of the sky.
I agree, that song is absolutely the most perfect thing they could have chosen. I bought the soundtrack CDs before I finished the series and I loved that song instantly. So when Claire popped in "Ted's Deeply Un-Hip Mix" and that song started up, it was like, "oh shit, I'm going to totally lose it."
I'll stop rambling, but it's been almost a year since I first saw the finale and it STILL affects me.
Alan Ball = genius.

I guess I remember that he wrote American Beauty now that you say that.
That was a good movie. Lester Burnam!
Rach: go see "No Country for Old Men".

Oh, will do--I saw the preview when I went to "The Darjeeling Limited" and thought it looked awesome. I do love me some Coen Brothers.
Well, Fuck. I finally finished the whole thing and I'm kinda pissed it's over. Sixty-three hours of television. More when you count all the ones I re-watched with commentary. I feel like I've lost a friend. :(
I don't even know what to say about the show. My feelings toward characters changed all of the time. I really liked Brenda at first, hated her when she was sleeping with every man she encountered and ended up feeling kind of sorry for her. I really was buying that incestuous dream sequence with her brother though!
I never liked her brother much.
Ruth - sometimes I loved her and sometimes I wanted to slap her silly. She was so mean to George when he was sick but getting better. I felt so sorry for him. But, of course just a few episodes before that I wanted to slap him!
What a roller coaster of emotions this series was!
But I loved loved loved Keith and David all the way through. I was SO glad they stayed together. Alan Ball said that the writers kept wanting to break them up but he didn't want to. Good on him. I would have been pissed if they had broken up.
Unfortunately, I knew Nate was going to die because I watched an episode with commentary in the prior season and the person commenting just SAID IT. It really upset me. I should be able to watch the commentary without spoilers.

Oh, Karo! That's how I felt too. Still do, actually. Like a bunch of my best friends died all at once, and a few of my enemies too.
I agree with everything you said. Ruth and Brenda and George took me on major roller coasters of hate, love, dislike, pity...
Nate even did a little of that to me. I got spoiled on his death as well because I went to look up Peter Krause on wikipedia or something and ran across a line that said something like, "Nathaniel Fisher, succumbed to AVM at age 40" and I was like WHAT THE FUCK?!? I also got spoiled on Rico becoming a partner because I went to HBO's site for the show and there on the front page they are selling a shirt that says, "Fisher and Diaz". Seems like a little detail, but when you are just starting out, it's a spoiler you don't want to know yet. IMDB also spoiled me on Claire's abortion, but that was my fault for looking at a quotes page. Otherwise, all was shocker after shocker and I loved every second.
I am buying the ridiculously expensive DVD set.
What were some of your favorite moments? Most of Claire's shit I loved, because she just rocks. I am also thinking of the time Vanessa and her sister went all gangsta on that stripper and her car. That was so awesome!
Oh, and the time Claire was high at David's birthday dinner and she got upset because only the women were clearing the table, then only the women and people of color. That was so hilarious! And of course Jimmy came in in his underpants. Weird that Jimmy is married in real life to Jenny Garth.

Due to all of your awesome recommendations, I have requested that seasons of this show be placed under a certain winter-time tree for me. I'm totally excited to have "new" show to watch.

Yay! Don't spoil yourself in this thread, Pek. Of course none of this will mean anything now, but once you're watching, it will. I think everyone should watch this show because it is the best ever!
I seriously am considering putting season one back in my Blockbuster queue.
Rach, one of my favorite scenes was when Keith told David "Don't you know that I think you're beautiful?" I knew then that they were going to get back together and I loved that.
Also, that scene at the end where Clair is telling her mother that she will not go to New York for her and Ruth puts aside her own misery to tell her that she has to go. It was very touching to see them finally show their love for each other.
I know she wasn't a main character, but I loved most of the scenes with Bettina. She was a hoot. The only scenes I didn't like were the shoplifting ones and that's because I'm a major hardass when it comes to stealing. I hate thieves..

Rach, before you watched the finale and you were wondering what was going to become of them all, if Claire was going to become a full-time drunk/druggie, if David and Keith would break up, etc. I SO wanted to tell you how proud you'd be of all of them and the way they turned out. I feel like they're all my friends, as lame as that sounds, like I watched them go through so much shit, and they came out so much better on the other end. Especially Claire, for some reason - watching her all through the last season just kills me... in a good way, thinking back to the smart-ass, stubborn, messed up kid she was in the beginning.
Favorite moments... SOO many. I'm sure I'll come up with more, but I LOVED when Nate accidentally took the last ecstasy tablet during the family dinner with Nicolai. Oh, and the episode with Santa and his motorcycle - when the widow gives Nate the guy's bike.
One of the best parts of this show is the music - if you haven't already done so, check out the soundtracks. I like the 2nd one best (Everything Ends), but both are fantastic. The CDs are included in the fabulous series boxed set, so those of you lucky enough to get this wonderful gift - BONUS!!

Karo, you are right, Bettina was a great character. When she and Ruth detoxed Sarah it was hilarious. I also loved Sarah. She was a fruit loop, but such a great antithesis to Ruth, it was wonderful. You're also right about Keith saying David was beautiful. I also thought it was so touching when Durrell us talking to Claire as she is leaving in the last ep and he calls Keith his dad. Such a small moment, but such a big thing.
Kapowski, the ecstasy was hilarious. And wondering what was going to happen to those last couple of pills...I knew Ruth was going to end up with one on the camping trip. That was great.
I could go on forever!

Pek, you're so lucky! I thought I hinted around enough that someone would get the 5 season box set for me this Christmas, but alas, it did not happen. There's always my big 3-0 this year! And I shouldn't complain, I got awesome gifts...
Anyway, I am glad you love it. Here are some other suggestions:
Dead Like Me
Freaks and Geeks
Dexter
Weeds
I hope you love them as much as me!!! :)

Dexter S1 is already on DVD. I can't watch the soap washed version that CBS will air. It's as bad as the sanitized version of Queer As Folk that aired on Logo and that's a gay channel! wtf?

Rach, this is why I am obsessed with you. I LOVE all of those shows, except that I've never watched Weeds. I will definitely start now, though, because you obviously have excellent taste ;)
Also, if anyone likes this list and has not seen My So Called Life, go get it immediately.

You will love Weeds--first and second seasons are the best, but the end of the third picked up and was pretty great too. Conrad is my boyfriend. And you are my girlfriend. But don't touch Conrad, because I don't like to share.

I was a bit worried about that too but I've seen lots of good press about how the CBS version is surprisingly intact. Like this one from the peops over at TV Squad - I generally trust their opinions....
